Matched betting....I know!

I know there are threads dedicated to this, but they are quite technical and go over my head.
For anyone who does / has done it, what is a realistic time commitment to make a few hundred pounds a month? And how quickly does it dry up? I'd quite like to make about £1000 to pay off a lingering debt, could get a float of about £400 to start off.....does that seem doable? TIA.

Should I set up a second bank account? I have been doing this for a week but am loathe to carry on if I shouldn't be using my main account.

Moogdroog · 23/09/2018 22:33

@WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream - yes I do - it's well worth it, and pays for itself with all the tools and the forums. Really recommend it.

Moogdroog · 23/09/2018 22:37

@Belindablinks - I really would. Apart from gambling transactions just not looking good on your bank statement, I think I'd get in hell of a pickle if they weren't separate. It's nice to see your bank grow too.

Belindablinks · 23/09/2018 22:56

Thanks moogdroog I will do that. I will hold off on doing any more offers until its open!

Frouby · 24/09/2018 06:43

I know a few people who make serious money doing this. I have done a few sign ups but got distracted, really need to get back on it.

FrontRowSeat · 24/09/2018 07:15

Are 2UP offers worth it? Team profit suggest they only win you £2-£3?

LunaDeet · 24/09/2018 07:29

I’m pretty slow at matched betting compared to others, but I’m still making money and I really enjoy the process. I can easily make £60 a week minimum.

I only bet on football and big leagues and still do one sign up a week. Mondays I withdraw all my money from the various bookies after the weekend games to my MB account ready for the next weeks offers.

This week there’s EFL games on Tues so I’ll expect to do some offers tomorrow. I’m not yet a member of Oddsmonkey so that’s next for me, and the Bet365 sign up. I felt like I needed to get used to the process of matching my own bets before the software basically does it all for me.

It really is profitable, but you have to find the right rhythm for you. Everyone works differently and enjoys different aspects/offers.

Moogdroog · 24/09/2018 09:08

@FrontRowSeat - 2Ups seem to be one of the main ways of making money, but I'm only just getting started on them. I think you can make big money with large stakes, the game going the right way and holding your nerve. I did make £90 from a 50 quid stake last week as it was the perfect scenario. Bet365 is a precious account as they often do 'Bet 50, get 50 in play' offers, so worth keeping them sweet.

WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream · 24/09/2018 21:21

Ive been watching the tutorials on Oddsmonkey and I just can't get my head round how it works at all! I've got so far as I've set up an account with Betfair but I don't know what to do next!

Goldylover · 24/09/2018 21:37

Can I ask something? How much time do you spend on this a day? My DH has made £200 this week but he's on the Facebook group and they say that people have made 10k in 4 months how?!

MishMashMosher · 24/09/2018 21:42

Go on odds monkey. The first 2 or 3 matched bets on their site are free and will literaly hold you hand and walk you through it. You don't need to be good at maths or understand odds. I made a few hundred pounds in less than a month. But I only started with £100 float. If you've got more, you'll make money faster as you don't need to wait for the money to transfer back to your bank account. I would suggest opening up a separate account for matched betting so you don't confuse your own money with your float.Good luck!

chocciechocface · 25/09/2018 11:12

I've been speaking to DH about matched betting and think I'm ready to really try it out.

May I ask, what's in it for the bookies? It sounds too good to be true: what's the catch?

Also - is this the main support thread? Someone earlier mentioned another but I can't seem to find it.

chocciechocface · 25/09/2018 11:14

Ah-ha - I assume this is the thread...?

May I ask, what's in it for the bookies

The vast majority of people who take advantage of their offers will place a bet that they wouldn't otherwise have done. It's like Tesco doing BOGOF - you end up buying a product that you wouldn't otherwise have bought because you feel like you're getting something for nothing.

Very very very few people will be laying the bets!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 25/09/2018 12:29

May I ask, what's in it for the bookies? It sounds too good to be true: what's the catch?

The catch is that the bookies hate it, so if they think you are doing MB they will cancel your account with them.

AlaskanSnow · 25/09/2018 12:56

I've just joined Team Profit, so will give the vids a watch and see how I get on

Tobuyornot99 · 26/09/2018 08:43

I'm £74 up but I've done 18 bets, so only averaging £4 something profit per bet, must admit it seems like an awful lot of work at the moment for the reward, but perhaps as I get quicker at it it'll be more beneficial?

OP posts:
delilahbucket · 26/09/2018 12:56

Tobuyornot99 you get much quicker as you get used to it, and to be fair, unless you are spending more than half an hour per bet, you are getting at least minimum wage and not paying any tax on it.

Tobuyornot99 · 26/09/2018 13:25

Thanks Delilah. I'm certainly not sniffing at the money, it's great, but doesn't feel real as it's all tied up in the exchange. It's not so much the time as the mental anguish, it's making me stressed Blush

OP posts:
delilahbucket · 26/09/2018 16:52

You get used to it!

Tobuyornot99 · 27/09/2018 08:04

How are people getting on with free spins? I've been given loads, but they have a 40 x wagering requirement and I never get that far Sad
One site has asked me to validate my ID etc and send a screen shot of the bank account linked to the card, it'll be so obvious what I'm upto I'll have my first gubbing..... Do they have to return your money in that case?

OP posts:
Frouby · 27/09/2018 08:14

You don't have to show your transactions on your bank statement. Just print it off and cover the transactions with a piece of paper.

Tobuyornot99 · 28/09/2018 11:21

Can I share a mistake I made with other newbies, save you making the same mistake?
I saw awesome odds on an obscure German football game so backed a 0-0 score with a bookie, didn't check how much money was in the pot on Betfair, then when I got there there was nothing left Sad so unless it picks back up I'll waste my £10 free bet. Lesson learnt, such a shame as I was on a roll.

vandrew4 · 29/09/2018 13:18

tobuyornot if it's risk free spins it's always worth doing. I do almost all the ones offered. Yesterday was a particularly fine day, £550 up from free spins! 2 weeks ago iwas up £900 in a day. those are the exceptional days of course, but I get a fair few quid a day

sirmione16 · 29/09/2018 23:02

@Tobuyornot99 oh no :( I did this earlier, had already placed £30 of free bets - AND IT ONLY BLOODY CAME IN Grin £67 from free bets. I'm a lucky girl. But rookie error. Won't do it again.
