Matched betting....I know!

I know there are threads dedicated to this, but they are quite technical and go over my head.
For anyone who does / has done it, what is a realistic time commitment to make a few hundred pounds a month? And how quickly does it dry up? I'd quite like to make about £1000 to pay off a lingering debt, could get a float of about £400 to start off.....does that seem doable? TIA.

Make sure you're in Betfair Exchange. Put your stake on the pink Box next to Team A to win - pink is laying, blue is backing.

FreckledLeopard · 21/09/2018 14:23

I've made around £5k since I started just over a year ago, but have done very little over the summer and just getting back into it now. I'm up around £180 for September (but again, with very little time spent).

Definitely watch the videos, join Oddsmonkey and Team Profit and if you're not sure of anything then ask - the Team Profit facebook group is good and Team Profit themselves have live chat.

Tobuyornot99 · 21/09/2018 14:36

Thanks titchy I was in the regular betting bit not the exchange, that would have been an expensive mistake, phew!
Good on you freckled, hope I can do half as well as you!

Well you would need to really understand betting odds so the bets you place get you an overall win, surely? Otherwise it gets down to Luck, and obviously unreliable to say the least

you really don't understand what matched betting is, do you?
I've made just over £75K in 2.5 years and it's risk free.
join profit acccululator and follow the step by step instructions. You should get £1K in about 6 weeks or so

vandrew4 · 21/09/2018 14:43

but I’ve closed a couple of accounts as they weren’t offering much
don't ever close the account. They may have an offer in the future, they may have an odds boost, you may want to arb them....

Parent2work · 21/09/2018 14:56

I made about £700 on sign up offers a couple of years ago. Used a site called ‘Save the Student’ - completely free and has an odds calculator. Then gave it up so my accounts are dormant. But I might want to start up again...

Can anyone explain what reload offers are?
Thanks.
Also accas?

User1983 · 21/09/2018 14:57

I've just started and am on maternity leave so being really careful with my money and spending ages double and triple checking. I'm only placing 1 bet per evening but have made about £70 in the first week. I'm still not sure what happens when I work my way through all the welcome offers but people seem to be able to continue to make money from existing offers.

vandrew4 · 21/09/2018 15:00

reload offers are offers the bookies have after you've done the welcome offers.
acca's are bets with at least 2 selections in them. eg. you bet on arsenal, chelsea and west ham all to win. if just one doesn't win you lose the acca bet

Hello all! Brand new here (and a complete newbie at matched betting) so I hope you don’t mind me jumping on to ask-
I’m probably being completely stupid. But : if I put a back bet on odds of say, 2.5, and I go to betfair to lay the bet, do I then need to change the stakes to match the 2.5, or can I leave them as they are, at say 3.1?
Does it make a difference!? I’ve trawled the Internet and no one has asked which means that I’m probably being a complete idiot
So, do I change the lay stakes on Betfair to match the back bet, or leave them as they are? 🤔

vandrew4 · 21/09/2018 15:17

forgoodnesssake
do a month's trial at profit accumulator and follow the instructions. It really does walk you through it

titchy · 21/09/2018 15:23

The lay odds are what are being offered at the moment - in other words there is money to fully match your stake. As a beginner do NOT change the lay stakes, but make sure they are as close to the back stakes as possible - this is where subscribing to one of the odds matching sites helps as they will list the lay odds against the back odds and order them by how close they are.

(Changing the stake at the exchange, to a lower one, means your stake is queued waiting for someone to come along and take it at those odds - which may never happen.)

OhhForGoodnessSake · 21/09/2018 15:36

Titchy you are wondrous, thank you so much! DAYS I’ve been searching for the answer to that 😂🙄
You’re a star. I’ll see if I can grasp it enough to sustain a profit and look into joining an odds matching site!

titchy · 21/09/2018 16:00

Thank you! If you look at the pink box with the odds in closely you'll see an amount of money - that''s how much is ready to be matched to your stake.

If you look at the picture there is £34 available to match under 2.5 goals at odds of 2.2, so you could stake up to that amount and know it'll match straight away.

Matched betting....I know!
OhhForGoodnessSake · 21/09/2018 16:40

I was wondering what those numbers meant 😳😬 it’s a wonder I’ve made any money at all really 😂

shortaris1 · 21/09/2018 23:06

I've made over 4k matched betting. You can only lose money if you make a mistake. I spend about an hour a day on it and get on horses, football and do casino/slots.

Tobuyornot99 · 23/09/2018 19:46

How are people getting on? I've not made anything yet - have just shifted money from the bookies to Betfair seemingly - but I Don have 6 free £10 bets to use so should see some profit soon.
I tried the horses but it's very complicated (or perhaps it's just me), put £10 on and lost £4 at Betfair and £3 with the bookies as the horse came in top 3, clearly need to swat up a bit more.

OP posts:
titchy · 23/09/2018 20:06

Why did you back the horse to place? Mostly people back to win, and lay the win. You shouldn't be losing any money if you're doing it right, other than 10p qualifying loss. Maybe go through the guides again?

Tobuyornot99 · 23/09/2018 20:17

Thanks titchy. I just got a bit muddled and carried away, definitely need to read the guides again! Or stick to football and rugby for a bit until I fully get my head around it. At least it was still a win of £3 off a free bet, so not a complete loss

OP posts:
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 23/09/2018 20:21

I found oddsmonkey really helpful, as far as I remember they had really really really basic guides walking you through what to do.

delilahbucket · 23/09/2018 20:26

Try Team Profit. It's free and their Facebook group is extremely helpful.
It isn't gambling and it isn't purely based on luck or picking winners. Whether bets win or lose is irrelevant. Anyone who thinks it is either of these things doesn't understand matched betting.

Newyoiker · 23/09/2018 21:42

I started off the back of this thread last Sunday and our profit is £134.82 it's brilliant! That's without thing properly as I've been a bit unwell so still have a lot of free offers to take up :)

Moogdroog · 23/09/2018 21:44

I love matched betting. It's given us a third income - I've made about 10k so far this year. Team Profit is an excellent place to start, and I'm with Oddsmonkey, which is worth it's weight in gold.
I'd recommend anyone thinking of starting to set themselves up with a Topcashback account, email address and separate bank account.

Newyoiker · 23/09/2018 21:52

@Moogdroog do you get cash back on bets then with top cash back? The spam is insane so I'm glad I started a new email address!

Moogdroog · 23/09/2018 22:18

You can get cashback for a few bookie and casino sign up offers - always be sure to read the T&C's though, but it's often a nice £20 on top of what you'd make from the sign up alone.

WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream · 23/09/2018 22:22

@Moogdroog do you the £17.99 a month package with Oddsmonkey?
