Just split up with DP, no children. Want to get away for a night. Any nice places to go? Preferably quiet but still something to see or do. I live near London so rather not there Grin thanks for any ideas

York? It's a lovely city, small enough to walk around and lots to see/do.

aybeeseedee · 03/09/2018 22:51

Stratford upon Avon. Not too far to travel and loads to do.

Sarcelle · 03/09/2018 22:53

Bath

Plumpciousness · 03/09/2018 22:54

I thought of York too, or maybe Bath (although Bath seems to close down at 5.30pm). Might be a bit far just for one night though.

Are you driving or taking a train?

reges · 03/09/2018 22:56

I'd be driving :) thanks for current suggestions

Somewhere with a spa and fantastic afternoon teas.

squirrelnutkins1 · 03/09/2018 23:01

Ooh yes Bath! Go to the rooftop spa!

noego · 03/09/2018 23:07

Winchester.

Does it have to be England ?! Cardiff is great. It's lush at St Davids Hotel and Spa in Cardiff Bay ..loads of restaurants and a theatre and cinema nearby.

PasstheStarmix · 03/09/2018 23:14

I second York

thenightsky · 03/09/2018 23:18

Northumbria and Lindisfarne.

buckingfrolicks · 03/09/2018 23:21

From London? Lyme Regis ?

LadyOfTheCanyon · 04/09/2018 03:53

Avebury. It's so beautiful and a really quirky place with a very serene vibe. I went there after I split up with a guy and the walks up to West Kennet long barrow and Silbury hill are amazing. Stay at the red lion.

Bloody hell. Mumsnet is obsessed with York.

StripySocksAndDocs · 04/09/2018 05:12

Peak District. Somewhere like Castletown, there’s things to see, it’s beautiful, peaceful but there are enough people not to feel isolated and alone.

It’s also fairly accessible from around London. York is great but it’s a fair distance for one night.

StripySocksAndDocs · 04/09/2018 05:14

*Castleton

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 04/09/2018 05:50

Cambridge. This time of year the Backs are lovely, the horticultural gardens are nice, and there's some nice pubs where a single woman reading a book won't be spoken to.

AsleepAllDay · 04/09/2018 05:59

Following - want to do this too. Not Brighton as I went there with my ex

nodtik · 04/09/2018 06:09

Canterbury or Cambridge

Both not too fair to drive, both stunning xx

Freetodowhatiwant · 04/09/2018 06:16

If it’s just one night and you’re driving I wouldn’t go to York, although I love it. Also what part of London are you in? If SE I would say somewhere like Rye, SW yes maybe Bath Lyme Regis, West too I guess, North West - oxford and the Cotswolds always good. And north east maybe Norwich? Sounds lovely! Can I come too please..?

theboxofdelights · 04/09/2018 06:34

I wouldn't drive too far either for one night. If east is easy for you I would go somewhere like the Crown and Castle at Orford. Nice food, places to see locally (driving), walk on the beach.

Where I go would include somewhere lovely to stay and eat.

Rebecca36 · 04/09/2018 06:52

Whitstable is lovely, doesn't take long to get there from London.

brizzledrizzle · 04/09/2018 06:55

Monmouthshire.

CrispbuttyNo1 · 04/09/2018 06:56

Marlborough

deepsea · 04/09/2018 07:01

Cotswolds of course, beautiful in the autumn.
