Just split up with DP, no children. Want to get away for a night. Any nice places to go? Preferably quiet but still something to see or do. I live near London so rather not there Grin thanks for any ideas

Dunwich and/or Orford.

Dunwich has the beach plus forest walks and a Priory to explore and Orford has the castle and is generally lively. There's also Southwold near by, brilliant pier, loads of BnBs and a mix of local independant shops and chains.

Orford is lovely, not lively. It may be lively sometimes, just never when I've been there.

What do you want to do? Go for a walk? Shop and have a nice lunch? Do culture stuff? It might help to narrow down suggestions.

I've had lots of solo weekends where I've gone for a 10-15 mile walk. It makes you feel like you really deserve that slap up dinner and glass of wine at the end of it.

I second Stratford upon Avon maybe staying at the newish Hotel du vin. Travel by train - it's really cheap from London and such a nice journey (and not too far). Lots of lovely places to eat and you can go to the theatre, do the theatre tour, visit the Shakespeare sights, walk by the river, wander round the shops, do National Trust stuff.
