5 years ago i bought a cheap dinner set from wilkos for £5. Just to keep us going until I could afford a better set.

5 years of daily use by 6 kids and 2 adults and I've just broken one of the plates. First one to break.

I'm amazed they lasted so long!

Anything you've got that you didnt think would last as long as you thought?

Iv got a plastic bath room swing bin (with frog head on the swinging bit) and a small desk lamp that has never had the bulb changed! Iv had them both for 17 years so far.

the bin was £4 and the lamp was I think £3

20 years ago my auntie bought my brother a green plastic laundry bin with a crocodile-shaped lid. He gave it to me when my kids were born and it's still going strong, looks like new!

BitchPeas · 02/09/2018 13:02

Tescos value kettle. Has lasted roughly 6 years being used 10+ times a day and still going strong. Cost around £7.50 I think.

I’m still using the plastic colander I bought for my first flat on my own in 1992. It was part of a set with other matching kitchen things that cost £1. The rest of the things have gone but the colander is going strong. It is used most days.

fourpawswhite · 02/09/2018 13:05

I bought a value fish slice in woolworths twenty years ago as a student.

Since then I have bought or been given various new ones to replace it with but always still use that one. It's plastic, cost about twenty pence and looks like new.

Gardeninginsummer1 · 02/09/2018 13:09

I have a toaster bought in 2003 that cost a tenner... still looks brand new and works perfectly. It's used every day several times.

25 years ago my mum worked as a cleaner in the local student halls of residence (I could tell you some grim stories!). At the end of the academic year they'd always leave behind their utensils. She would bring them all home in a bin bag for us to take.

I still have a potato masher and a slotted spoon 😂

Oldraver · 02/09/2018 13:21

I bought a basic 3 programme dishwasher in 1992, it's still going.

I even saved a spare door 18 years ago for when it gave up the ghost and I would get a built in one.

Door is in a cupboard somewhere

HunterHearstHelmsley · 02/09/2018 13:22

Tesco value toaster. Think it was £2.99. Bought in 2010 to tide us over. Best toaster we've ever had.

toothtruth · 02/09/2018 13:23

rug from poundland. Had it for 6 years now! Really love it.

inlectorecumbit · 02/09/2018 13:23

I have a Braun Multiprac got as a wedding present 33 yeasr ago still going strong
My Dsis bought me a Radio alarm clock from her first summer job wage when she was 16... she in now 59 and it still works and is in use. The radio is a bit crackly now...

Showergel1 · 02/09/2018 13:23

Had my argos value kettle from uni for over 11 years. It came as part of a set including a toastie maker. Very cheap. Toastie maker was not long for this world but the kettle kept on kettlin'
Only got rid of it because I was sick of the sight of it.

KatieMarieJ · 02/09/2018 13:25

This dinner sets in Wilkos caused me major sickness when I bought some before we unpacked everything when we moved to discover they match the several £££s dinner service we have from Debenhams. Can't tell the difference at all. :/ They're excellent value for money.

My sanity.

But sadly not my waistline.

FadedRed · 02/09/2018 13:31

Phillips 'Ladyshave' bought in 1971. Still going strong.
Some little glass dessert bowls, given as part of a wedding present to my parents in 1950. Still in regular use.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 02/09/2018 13:31

An iron (which was very cheap) that I bought with wedding money 36 years ago.

Samcro · 02/09/2018 13:33

our "radio" alarm......Dh has had it 45 years. still works fine (apart from the light)

MongerTruffle · 02/09/2018 13:33

My grandmother has a hand crank nut grinder that she bought forty years ago.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 02/09/2018 13:36

One of the DC has an Ikea night light in their bedroom that I bought for £1, complete with bulb, at a table top sale 13 years ago.

The lamp is still going string but the bulb has had to be replaced Smile

FetchezLaVache · 02/09/2018 13:37

When I left my ExH, I didn't have a lot of money, so I bought a vacuum cleaner form Argos to tide me over - I think it cost £27.99. Six years later and not only is it still going strong, it works far better than you'd expect for that money.

@Oldraver - may I ask what make your dishwasher is, please?

thisonebreath · 02/09/2018 13:37

A cheapo lamp from Argos from when DH (then DP) first moved in together 15 years ago. We're currently decorating so I'm going to replace it and he can have it in his shed.

toomuchtooold · 02/09/2018 13:38

I've got a veg peeler that I bought for 50p out of Poundstretcher about 20 years ago that is not only going strong, it's far better than the one I spent a fiver on in a posh kitchen shop in Brighton.

LynetteScavo · 02/09/2018 13:40

I think I bought my mascara last Christmas. I use it everyday. I've no idea why it hasn't run out. It still works perfectly. Every morning I think I'm going to give myself some horrible eye disease, but it never happens. I also regularly promise myself (since last Easter) I will buy myself a new one next time I'm shopping. That also seems to never happens

Theresnodisneyending · 02/09/2018 13:41

Ikea pizza cutter. About 90p, I think. It lasted almost 15 years.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 02/09/2018 13:42

Almost forgot my trusty stick blender. It’s a Sainsbury’s Basics one. I can’t remember how much it cost but can remember it being very, very cheap. Can’t remember how long I’ve had it for either, just know I’ve had it longer than I’ve had DH and he’s been here since 1999 Smile
