Just that really.

I didn't. But should I have?

It’s something with no resale value, no brag factor and is a basic food. Suggests the person who stole it needed it. Of course you shouldn’t have

niknac1 · 01/09/2018 14:17

No I wouldn’t, you don’t know what trouble you are going to bring to your doorstep for a loaf of bread, it’s not a threat to life situation.

Lidlbutfierce · 01/09/2018 14:17

Doubt it. Aside from other considerations it's so loaded with meaning isn't it...

Booze-probably would report.

INeedNewShoes · 01/09/2018 14:17

I don't think I would. We know it's wrong but I don't think I could get someone into trouble for being hungry.

Stealing mascara or a trendy notebook I'd 100% report.

Lucked · 01/09/2018 14:18

Probably not. It seems so desperate, not like they can sell it on only eat it.

Might depend on the circumstances. For instance a colleague stealing another colleagues home made artisan loaf for their lunch then yeah.

Whatsforu · 01/09/2018 14:19

Stealing a loaf of bread they must of been desperate. I would not report somebody for that.

Toofle · 01/09/2018 14:20

If I could have done so without attracting attention , I'd have bought it for them. I certainly wouldn't report them.

Sirzy · 01/09/2018 14:20

Although it’s wrong in my eyes that is something done from desperation so I would turn a blind eye.

villainousbroodmare · 01/09/2018 14:20

Certainly not.

MissVanjie · 01/09/2018 14:20

no. that is some les miserables level shit.

villainousbroodmare · 01/09/2018 14:21

In fact I'd like to buy them a bag of groceries.

MrsGB2225 · 01/09/2018 14:21

No I wouldn’t have, they must be desperate.

toothtruth · 01/09/2018 14:23

No I wouldnt.
If I could though because they were hanging around, id let them know about food bank services. Tell them all you have to do is go to the salvation army (there are some other charities too but thats the one im sure does it) or to a GP and they can be referred and can get free food from there.
Also there are pay as you feel cafes in a lot of places now that can be less embarrassing as no one asks you any questions and they are open to everyone regardless of income. therealjunkfoodproject.org/#locationsearch you can find where the nearest one to you is with this.

Might get a bad reaction but at least youdve let them know how to do it... some people are too ashamed to ask how to access these services.

StarWarsHolidaySpecial · 01/09/2018 14:23

No.

NancyDonahue · 01/09/2018 14:25

I wouldn't.

Was it at your place of work, op?

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 01/09/2018 14:27

MrBeansXmasTurkey · 01/09/2018 14:27

No

SneakyGremlins · 01/09/2018 14:28

No, I just nipped into the local shop for milk - oddly they keep the bread right next to the front door. Someone came in next to me, picked up a loaf of bread, and then turned and sped out of there. I don't think the checkout operators noticed - dealing with customers - but I thought it was clearly desperation. So didn't say anything. If they'd hung around I'd have bought it for them.

Chop their hand off or ship them to Audi.

dracolovesharry · 01/09/2018 14:32

Lol or Australia!

ArcadePixie · 01/09/2018 14:33

I've seen people stealing a few times. I never say anything

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/09/2018 14:49

By the same token, would you report someone stealing from a charity shop? Only back in my day ( I am ancient) people used to try out their pilfering skills in a charity shop then move on to High St shops.

So the bread stealer might move on from bread (low value but bulky , not the easiest thing to hide , but most likely stolen if they really needed it) to a pack of bacon or sausages .

Formula milk . Would you report someone stealing that ? OK , it might be an emergency , or they might be selling it. Milk used to get stolen from Community Clinics and end up at CarBoot sales with the clinic stamp on the lid.

Was his sister's child close to death? I would try and find him a room for the night at the local bishop's house.
