WWYD - miss an evening holiday for a industry award?

So we are going on a UK holiday in a few weeks and this has been planned for a while. Going with another couple and both our small DCs (both in bed for 7).
I have also been nominated for an industry award and have reached the finals Shock! The awards ceremony is on one of the evenings of the holiday and is an hour drive away. I usually go but got a good deal on the holiday and wasn't going for any awards.
Someone nominated me for the award and others who have won in previous years have gone on to get amazing promotions or raises as a lot of the top people in the industry are there.

Now would you attempt to go to the ceremony(just for the awards bit) after the DCs have gone to bed. Haven't really mentioned the idea to DH but mentioned I was excited about being nominated.

WWYD?

Yes!!

StealthPolarBear · 31/08/2018 20:40

In fact would the other couple babysit do he can go too?

fourpawswhite · 31/08/2018 20:40

Oh well done OP. I would go!! How about taking friend and leaving DH and other friend at house. I would love to accompany my friend. Or would happily babysit if DH wanted to go with you.

An hour drive is nothing. That's my normal commute.

StealthPolarBear · 31/08/2018 20:40

An hour is nothing and this sounds like a big deal

LuluBellaBlue · 31/08/2018 20:41

Go and good luck!!!!

AHobbyaweek · 31/08/2018 20:42

The drive doesn't worry me, like some others my commute is longer.
You can't take anyone but some of my colleagues will be there.
I will chat to him but wondered if I was being a bit selfish.

StealthPolarBear · 31/08/2018 20:43

Well yes but you're allowed to be selfish from time to time

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 31/08/2018 20:46

Go go go. And then should you win you can go back to your holiday, award in hand, and celebrate like a legend.

StealthPolarBear · 31/08/2018 20:54

And update us

Stickybunfighting · 31/08/2018 21:03

Go! Go! Go! So Go! And for the whole holiday up until the evening stand in the bathroom in front of the mirror and practice your 'Me? The winner? 💁‍♀️' Face. Also practice your 'politely applauding the OTHER winner 😇' face. As though you were at the Oscars. Practice your acceptance speech on all adults and as many children as you can. Go!

BananaSpljt · 31/08/2018 21:58

What?! Of course you should go! If you were my DP, I'd be pushing you out the door whilst cheering your name.

HollowTalk · 31/08/2018 21:59

That's not selfish! Congratulations, I hope you win.

AntiHop · 31/08/2018 22:00

Go. Without a doubt.

AChickenCalledKorma · 31/08/2018 22:05

I'm normally very protective of my holiday time, but yes I would absolutely go to the ceremony in those circumstances. Good luck!

LightDrizzle · 31/08/2018 22:10

Congratulations! Go! Your family will be proud to bits, that’s ace.

B00dyM4ry · 31/08/2018 22:16

Of course you should go - it is an evening on a UK holiday- you aren't flying home from the Maldives Wink he isn't even going to be on his tod. He is being selfish if he huffs!

AHobbyaweek · 31/08/2018 22:50

Thank you all. Had a chat with DH and he is happy for me to go.
Excited and need to find a dress now.
