Ikea shopping list

Going to Ikea tomorrow to buy some toys and a few other bits (bedding, frying pan, try out some mattresses etc). And food and coffee beans, obviously. And some frames.

What else should be on my shopping list? What are you favourite things from Ikea?

Their kitchen knives are good. Don't go too mad and buy what everyone else does or your house will look identikit!

NecessaryOnABicycle · 01/09/2018 07:03

Adding my vote to the cheese grater!

HeyMicky · 01/09/2018 07:15

Has no one said wrapping paper? It's excellent - thick, really big rolls, cuts well, good patterns and colours

MyNameIsJane · 01/09/2018 07:25

I agree about the wrapping paper too!

I also bought 2 soctopus hangers, grater.

I’ll add their knives to my list!

Small spice jars

Jaffacakesfordinner · 01/09/2018 07:34

100% freezer bags.. in every size and colour. The little pink ones are more valuable than you think..

Tealights always.. the BER months are here so candles are a must hahaha.

We always end up having to replace a couple of side plates or bowls when we go - beauty of their dinner sets being able to be bought in singles.

If you have any fancy lighting (i.e G4 or G9 bulbs) the ikea LED alternatives that fit in the slot are superior to any bulb (and often cheaper).

The nobbly bath mats!

Roussette · 01/09/2018 07:43

A set of funnels.

You never know when you'll need a funnel and when you do you'll be glad you've bought them!

Noooo to the meatballs, can't understand the love, they're revolting.

Plants. Any of their plants are really good

RandomMess · 01/09/2018 08:00

They do these white thin glass plates, bowls etc for 50p each fit in dishwasher better than anything else, really light and keep food piping hot.

Replaced my Denby with them!

Thin glass measuring jugs.

SinkGirl · 01/09/2018 08:17

The wrapping paper is great and we are running low so will get some more :)

I love the meatballs - sorry 😂 the coffee beans are the best though, always on 3 for 2 and it works out about £1.50 a bag which is a bargain and they’re lovely.

Will post if I find anything brilliant!

Washing up brushes
Food storage containers
Chopping boards

For children
Bathroom step
The wooden kitchen step (often doubles as a stool in our house)
Potty
Bibs
Antilop high chair (a must)
Roll of drawing paper
Brio style train track (every time we go we get another section for an ever evolving set)
Play kitchen
I could go on...

Roussette · 01/09/2018 08:24

Tis just me Silnkgirl I only like my own meatballs Grin

Centreparcsooheer · 01/09/2018 08:24

Those glass containers with clicky lids which you can freeze food in then reheat in the oven or microwave. I prefer them to plastic pots!!!

Centreparcsooheer · 01/09/2018 08:24

Oh and yes yes to the socktopus they are brilliant.

Roussette · 01/09/2018 08:25

The small sink drainer thing that just rests. Hard to explain. But it's transformed my life and cost about £2

Roussette · 01/09/2018 08:28

Here it is. Scroll to the second picture and you will see how wonderful it is! £3 actually

TitilatedOcelot · 01/09/2018 08:35

I have a soctopus, but had forgotten where it came from. Thanks to this thread I now know where to get some more. I have mine hanging on the end of my rotary line, I need 2 more for the other corners.

spiderplantsalad · 01/09/2018 09:20

Linen tea towels, they're about £1.50 and they are great. They're a sort of brown colour.
The cork coasters
They have some felt baskets with smaller baskets inside for organising stuff - I use mine a lot. Will probably get more.
Lunch boxes. They don't leak. They're brilliant.

Beetle76 · 01/09/2018 09:36

As you are going to look at mattresses, have a look at the Hyllestad range. We bought one (firm) for our spare room and it is super comfy.

WooYa · 01/09/2018 10:09

DH won't let me go to IKEA Sad

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 01/09/2018 10:15

I use the cork coasters as a place to put my rings. They’re more like small cork bowls. And they’re chunky and washable.

NancyDonahue · 01/09/2018 10:33

WooYa

For what reason?

WooYa · 01/09/2018 11:02

I buy everything 😬🎉 even if we don't need it 🙈😂 might book a day off work and go 😂

Davros · 24/09/2018 17:30

By the power of Mumsnet. I've been to Ikea twice since the last post on this thread and the Socktopus has been sold out both times (and probably in between)
