Small car advice please! What's as good as a polo?

I'm considering getting a polo. I need 5 doors due to two small kids but otherwise it doesn't need to be large. What other makes/models should I consider? Thanks Smile

I have a ford fiesta and I love it.

SilverHairedCat · 30/08/2018 21:41

Audi A1 or A3. Love my A1.

BertieBotts · 30/08/2018 21:42

We have a Suzuki Swift which we love. The boot is miniscule though so no use if you use a buggy still.

Peugeot possibly. I have had a couple and they have always been hassle free.

KindergartenKop · 30/08/2018 21:44

The buggy is almost gone, so not really a factor. Thanks for the tips.

I have a Kia Rio and love it, esp the 7 yr warranty.

purplemunkey · 30/08/2018 21:47

I also have a Suzuki Swift and I love it. As PP says though, boot is tiny. DD no longer uses a buggy and I can just about get a weekly shop in there so it works for me but worth bearing in mind if you need more storage space.

GlowWine · 30/08/2018 21:49

Was very happy with my Skoda Fabia, and two small kids, and folded pushchair in the boot. 11 years problem-free then we traded up to an estate.

makingmiracles · 30/08/2018 21:50

Vauxhall agila. Had one, 5 doors, small boot but flap lights up and could get two large sipuitcases in stood on end!! Was a really good nippy little car and compact to fit in small parking spaces. Great on petrol too.

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 30/08/2018 21:51

Audi A1 is basically a Polo with a higher price tag.

I have a Polo and the size is good but I feel mine isn’t the best, I suspect a dodgy salesman (long story).

My friend has a Hyundai that’s around the same size as a golf - can’t remember the model but she loves it and it feels well made.

Knitonepearl · 30/08/2018 21:53

Skoda Fabia, had one for fifteen years before scrapping it in for a brand new one. Love, love love them. Large boot space. Very reliable.

I have a skoda citigo and I love it. It’s five doors, four seats and 1L so is really reasonable on insurance.

KindergartenKop · 30/08/2018 21:54

An Audi looks a bit posh for me.
Why are polos more expensive than, say, a Suzuki?

SellFridges · 30/08/2018 21:55

We had a Seat Ibiza. Slightly bigger but we thought a better drive. More for your money from the same manufacturer. Same goes for the Fabia, but that’s less exciting to drive imo.

sproutsandparsnips · 30/08/2018 21:55

I second the Kia Rio.

OrcinusOrca · 30/08/2018 21:56

Love my fiesta. Hate polos. You're paying for the badge they're not amazing cars. I had an Ibiza, built on the same platform but a bit cheaper. Was an OK first car.

littlewoollypervert · 30/08/2018 21:59

Skoda fabia, just a rebranded polo so about 15% cheaper

BestIsWest · 30/08/2018 21:59

I’ve just bought a Skoda Fabia. It was a toss up between that and the Polo. The Fabia won on price. They are almost identical though - the Polo is slightly nicer but they are the same car.
I love it.

feliciabirthgiver · 30/08/2018 22:01

Agreed can't go wrong with a Skoda Fabia or Seat Ibiza both VW/Audi Group. Or get a Polo if that's what you want?

tomatosoup1 · 30/08/2018 22:05

3rd for Kia Rio

BonnieF · 30/08/2018 22:05

VWs are more expensive than Suzukis because people are prepared to pay extra for a car with a German badge.

Skoda is owned by VW and the Fabia is the same car as the Polo under the skin. Same engines, gearbox, suspension, brakes, electrics etc etc. The Audi A1 & Seat Ibiza are also based on the Polo. The main differences are exterior styling and interior trim. And that all-important badge, of course.....

KindergartenKop · 30/08/2018 22:06

I'll make a vw badge out of foil and stick it on the front of a skoda then. It'll save me some pennies. Thanks!

I love my Kia picanto

GladAllOver · 30/08/2018 22:10

Most of the Fabia is made of VW parts, including the engine. They are very reliable.

fattyboomboomboom · 30/08/2018 22:12

4th for Kia Rio - love it
