seriously... most things tgat go in the dishwasher are rinsed first, right?

very unlikely therefore that they need the full 2hr programme - stick it on a glass 29min programme and job done!

I don’t rinse anything before putting it in the dishwasher. Just scrape and bung it in. Works perfectly!

enjoyingscience · 30/08/2018 20:24

No rinsing here. Scraping, yes, but no rinsing. Gratuitous water wasting.

BoobleMcB · 30/08/2018 20:24

Definitely don't rinse. Again, scrape it and stick it in. If I'm rinsing it, I might as well wash it!

feliciabirthgiver · 30/08/2018 20:25

Another non rinser here and a 60 min economy programme for me!

BoobleMcB · 30/08/2018 20:25

But thanks anyways 😁

CakeNinja · 30/08/2018 20:25

Vaguely scraped if they need it but not rinsed.

threesenoughthanks · 30/08/2018 20:28

I give them a quick rinse then in. My mum practically washes them first...strange lady.

Largepiecesofcrookedwood · 30/08/2018 20:29

My hack would be that, unless it's cut glass crystal, anything can go in the dishwasher. For years other mums marvelled at DS's beautifully clean fabric lunchbox, all the while refusing to believe that you could actually put them in the dishwasher despite the warning label.
Over the years I have assiduously binned anything that either doesn't fit in or is unsuitable for the dishwasher. Tonight we have a little problem with cloudy glasses and I am fretting like a member of my immediate family is in peril Grin

LeroyJenkins · 30/08/2018 20:30

who the heck washes before using the dishwasher? surely thats what the dishwasher does!

Longdistance · 30/08/2018 20:30

A dishwasher still needs a clean internally itself.

The blades always get grease and food stuck in them, so they need removing. The basket was hat collects crap by the drainage also needs cleaning.

As long as these are cleaned on a regular basis, then no rinse needed in the sink beforehand.

Rinsing not recommended by experts ^^
I never do, just because I don’t see what a quick rinse will do so it’s effort for little gain (in addition to reasons in article)

NoelHeadbands · 30/08/2018 20:32

I thought you weren't supposed to rinse first, as it made scratching worse. Not quite sure if that's true, I may have made that up as it fits with my lazy cow outlook.

If it's not nailed down it goes through the dishwasher, that's the rule in our gaff.

overmydeadbody · 30/08/2018 20:32

No rinsing here, just scraping.

My dishwasher hack is to put pretty much anything in it that needs a wash. Toys especially. And the filters on the extractor hood of the cooker. And the washing machine drawer.

NoelHeadbands · 30/08/2018 20:33

Ah mebbs I didn't make it up!

pugalugs90 · 30/08/2018 20:34

I must be on my own then I scrape, I'd heavily dirty I rinse then put on dishwasher rinse cycle then on intense

WalkingTed · 30/08/2018 20:34

ahh yes but if youre wanting to save some pennies then sureky this makes sense, no?

I’m crazy in love with my dishwasher.

As such and because I was a bit scared of using it I read the manual about three times before turning it on: rinsing is not allowed.

HollowTalk · 30/08/2018 20:37

I always use the economy wash - mine takes about 20 minutes. I never rinse anything, either.

Haffdonga · 30/08/2018 20:39

Why would it save money? Rinsing (in warm running water) will take much more energy consumption than in the dishwasher. Confused

Even better life hack, OP. Don't rinse. Just scrape.

dudsville · 30/08/2018 20:43

My dishwasher saved us from the only regular argument we have ever had. After a meal, all goes in (scraping? Huh!) And we just smile and get along hunky dory. 60 in wash is our shortest.

I thank you 🤓

Only recently got a dishwasher. Love it. Majorly.

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/08/2018 20:53

Ours says to scrape big debris but I've never rinsed. My mum had a dw in 1975 and I never saw her rinse anything either.

Your water consumption must be high if you rinse, kind of negates the dw. You might just as well wash up.

badgerread · 30/08/2018 20:54

Ooooooo I found a brilliant dishwasher hack online recently. Everything was coming out with a cloudy film on. I tried new tablets, salt, no salt, new rinse aid, but no, half a cup of white vinegar slung in the bottom every few washes everything comes out sparkling!

vjg13 · 30/08/2018 20:55

Pre rinsing is some kind of hangover from old fashioned dishwashers that needed it. My daughter asked me why Grandma was washing up before she put the dishes in the dishwasher!!
