seriously... most things tgat go in the dishwasher are rinsed first, right?

very unlikely therefore that they need the full 2hr programme - stick it on a glass 29min programme and job done!

Scrape off rice, and watermelon seeds. Those fuckers get stuck in the arm spray holes and are impossible to remove.

Titsywoo · 30/08/2018 23:18

My tip which I only recently discovered is that most dishwashers have little levers/handles/buttons on the side of the top rack which raise it an inch or so which can be really useful if you have big plates or oven trays that wouldn't fit normally.

Mistoffelees · 30/08/2018 23:24

No rinsing or soaking here, in fact I like to give the dishwasher a bit of a challenge sometimes with dried on food, I let it have 2 goes before I give in and handwash. The top rack of ours comes out completely so we put the BBQ grill in it as well. Best thing we ever bought.

LadyB49 · 30/08/2018 23:37

Scrape and 30 minutes economy wash.
Mine's also new and is a cheap Beko machine. Just as good as our last expensive machine.
I wash everything in it including cooker hood filters.

FlibbertyGiblets · 30/08/2018 23:44

I love you all. I have found my people.

NooNooHead · 30/08/2018 23:52

Definitely need to salt regularly as this prevents limescale buildup apparently...

DieAntword · 31/08/2018 00:17

My dishwasher manual had a little picture of food being scraped into a bin with a tick and then the plate being rinsed crossed out.

LesDennishair · 31/08/2018 00:56

Think of the filter! They’re scraped then rinsed under the tap with plain hot water before going in.

Flashingbeacon · 31/08/2018 01:04

Everything in this house goes through the dishwasher. If it melts it was never meant to be.

Genuine question, you may have read under different user names because it baffles me: why does it matter how long the dishwasher takes? I leave the door closesd till everything is definitely dry but my mother is like a cat on a brick till she can grab her boiling dishes back out.
We use the economy cycle and I haven’t a clue how long it is. Other people seem to monitor these things but I can’t work out why

3luckystars · 31/08/2018 02:27

Because it’s using electricity when it’s on, but there is no benefit to emptying it quicker.

Does your mother stand over you, waiting for you to finish your dinner so she can grab your plate too? (My sister does this) she is very efficient!

Pittcuecothecookbook · 31/08/2018 02:45

Just bought a house with a big enough kitchen to have a dishwasher for the first time ever. Following!

starryeyed19 · 31/08/2018 03:10

I'm insanely jealous of you all. This last summer holiday has driven me over the edge. Currently saving hard for a dishwasher. I never ever want to wash another fucking thing again

Soontobe60 · 31/08/2018 06:14

Does anyone else have idiots in their household who don't know how to load a dishwasher? Or am I the only person who has to reload every time I've put something else in?
Also, who's DH moves the cutlery basket to a different place every time he unloads it??.

soulrider · 31/08/2018 06:20

The quickest wash isn't necessarily the one that uses least electricity.

InfiniteSheldon · 31/08/2018 06:27

I have recently discovered after2years that my dishwasher can be speeded up it's like magic no more 3 hour cycles press the magic button and it's 1 hour 20 and cleans just as well

DinosApple · 31/08/2018 06:40

Our quick wash uses the least electricity and water.

The 'Eco' wash takes an hour and uses more of both according to the manual. Confused

I only ever use the quick wash!

EvilRingahBitch · 31/08/2018 06:45

For washing machines the cheapest wash is normally the slowest one. I think the same is often true for dishwashers too - heating up the water takes so much electricity that the rest of the cost is negligible.

StealthPolarBear · 31/08/2018 06:50

Why do people rinse? I don't understand what it's achieving?
Another one here who washed extractor fan hood, washing machine drawer, oven shelves, entire grill pan (comes out sparkling) in the dishwasher.

TheNavigator · 31/08/2018 06:56

MY DH rinses and it gives me the rage - honestly you can open the dishwasher & not know if it has been on because he basically washes everything before it goes in. His mum does the same. Generations of wrong.

isthismylifenow · 31/08/2018 07:00

Lets add sweetcorn kernels to this list. Every time I have had to clean the arms due to a blockage, it is always a bit of corn. Hmm

No I dont rinse. Why... that is the dishwasher's job.

Well sometimes there is a prewash from the dog. Found my lab puppy sitting on the bottom rack a few times. He cant fit in now, thank goodness.

Oven racks come up nice and shiny, as do hob plates, dog bowls, bins, well anything that needs a wash really....

maggienolia · 31/08/2018 08:02

I'm on holiday and DH insists on rinsing the plates before they go in.
Good job we're going home tomorrow or the next thing going in there would be his head.

Flashingbeacon · 31/08/2018 08:39

@3luckystars presumably your sister is my mother. Often the last mouthful of tea is washed down the sink before I get at it. More than a 30s gap in eating and the leftovers are in a Tupperware in the fridge and dishes are locked in the dishwasher. New hypothesis, some people view the dishwasher as a tool others as a precious gift. As the bath toys take a trip I know which category I’m in.

LesDennishair · 31/08/2018 09:27

Not at all. I rinse and we’ve always had a dishwasher since childhood. The only time we didn’t have one was at university.
I’ve washed Lego and all kinds of thins in there but pots are rinsed, it’s kinder on the filter (and me when it’s time for cleaning it).

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 31/08/2018 09:30

I'm not sure that actually using the wash cycles correctly really counts as a Hack

StealthPolarBear · 31/08/2018 09:39

But if you're worried about crap in the dishwasher filter, where do you think it goes when you rinse?
