Does anyone actually enjoy ‘traditional’ hen dos?

Just that really. I went on Facebook and one of my acquaintances from a previous job had posted photos of her hen do.

Honestly, it looked like my idea of a terrible time. They all had matching outfits, penis headbands and giant inflatable penises.

I appreciate everyone enjoys different things and I am in no way judging anyone who had such a night out before they married. I’m just trying to understand what is fun about walking around in public with a penis on your head!

Perhaps I need to lighten up and embrace the giant inflatable penis joy!

I hated that type of thing way back when I got married in 1989! Mind you it wasn’t quite as bad, just L plates and wedding veils with the odd condom hanging around. I told all friends that I’d never wear anything like that so not to bother making me one. Grin
I’m not keen on any hen party trash to be honest Smile

gobbin · 27/08/2018 18:42

I had a very un-trashy hen - a spa evening followed by a pub restaurant meal. Got lots of compliments, that did 😂

PamPooveysCow · 27/08/2018 19:11

Mine was very trashy, and I loved it!

I love spa days & whatnot too, but you can do that anytime. Only one day in your life you can wear penises Grin

StealthPolarBear · 27/08/2018 19:12

Cue 999 posts of people trying to outdo each other with how middle aged their hen does were. I predict a knitting workshop followed by a tea party.
Mine was a meal out, plenty of booze. No willies or l plates but it wouldn't have been the most dreadful thing in the world.

StealthPolarBear · 27/08/2018 19:13

Pam if you have a hen do for your anniversary I'm there :o

sirmione16 · 27/08/2018 19:14

I've said to my mum who's arranging mine that I 100% don't want any "tackiness" Grin I'm not prude or "up myself" It's just not my style, but I can appreciate how it can be good fun for others :)

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 27/08/2018 19:14

I’d run a mile from inflatable penises and L plates! Dinner and (lots of) drinks would do just fine.

StealthPolarBear · 27/08/2018 19:15

Just pam so far...anyone done knitting or poetry recital

MaisyPops · 27/08/2018 19:16

I had a veil and a bride sash for my evening meal and drinks but there were no willies on anything.
I don't get the penis obsession. You don't see stag dos with massive fanny models do you.

BlueJava · 27/08/2018 19:16

Never been on one, doubt I ever will :)

StealthPolarBear · 27/08/2018 19:17

Well I want to now :o

BG2015 · 27/08/2018 19:19

I think they're awful.

And the ridiculously expensive weekends in Ibiza/Marbella etc too

My next door neighbours (young couple in their 20's) have spent £10k on hen do's and stag do's over the past 4/5 years as loads of their friends have got married.

SoyDora · 27/08/2018 19:19

I’ve been to approx 15 hen dos, all have been fairly different from one another, some have involved the odd penis straw or something like that! Some aren’t my cup of tea in terms of activities but they don’t have to be, they’re for the bride to be!

IThinkILoveAI · 27/08/2018 19:20

Stealth perhaps the two could be combined - a knitting workshop where you knit giant knobs??

Went to a hen do last night , there were penises galore. I loved itGrin

StealthPolarBear · 27/08/2018 19:21

I'd still rather avoid the knitting and just buy a giant penis. I'd rather run round town with small penises dotted about my veil than face the tedium that is knitting.

Needsleepneedsleep · 27/08/2018 19:21

I had what could be considered a 'boring' traditional hen party - limo, dinner in an Asian buffet then onto a cheesy club then limo home. I made it clear beforehand I didn't want a veil, L plates etc and my friends respected this (albeit for the one who backed out as I wasn't having a stripper eyeroll)
Was a great evening. My friends have all had similar hen parties and they've been great.

Littleray84 · 27/08/2018 19:22

inflatable penises feel like i should add that in 😂

IThinkILoveAI · 27/08/2018 19:23

Grin I kinda want a giant inflatable penis now!

That sounds good.
I did an afternoon activity (some friends only did that due to childcare) and then a meal and night out.
Sometimes simple is easy and fun. I certainly couldn't be doing with "oh I didn't have a traditional hen do. We went to a rural commune and made jumpers for the bride from ethically reared sheep. We shaved them ourselves and died the wool. Then in the evening we all sat in a tent drinking nettle tea knitting because you know we are so over all this excess"

What I dislike are hens that are weekends away, booking cottages, big expensive mini breaks to marbella. I really dislike the trend for multiple hen dos too. It's quite inconsiderate and expects a lot of cash to be dropped on you.

Mooey89 · 27/08/2018 19:26

Two weeks until my hen do and I have specifically instructed that I will need penis straws, a sash, and an inflatable penis.

We are going to make cocktails and do Karaoke and go clubbing and the theme is all that glitters and I’m wearing glitter and body jewels.

Yes it’s tacky and I CANNOT WAIT

So I think YABU

Wine Gin 💃🥂

StealthPolarBear · 27/08/2018 19:27

Yes :)

StealthPolarBear · 27/08/2018 19:28

Have a fantastic time moooey!
Have you definitely looked into the knitting options? Doesn't have to be knitting, you can crochet or embroider, the wild possibilities are endless

Coconutcake0 · 27/08/2018 19:28

Its crass and a certain type goes to things like that. Its childish,

I also think that hen-dos have had their day, like stag dos.

dudsville · 27/08/2018 19:30

No, for me they are up there with traditional weddings. Give me the days of normal "best" clothes and a normal meal and no wait for the dreaded "disco".
