Do you still keep a special toy from your childhood?

I do. When i was 1 my dad went to Canada and spent a month there studying. He got me a teddy bear that's been my favorite toy throughout my childhood and i still have it on my bed. I'm 34 years old.

Do you still have a special toy? Please share a picture if you can!

I have a teddy bear. He is very bartered and old but came home with me from the hospital 30 years ago.
DH has a pair of wellies from when he was a toddler.

I do but it has been adopted by ds Smile
When I was a child I had surgery and was given a big fluffy sheepdog teddy by a relative. It is currently “sleeping” in ds’s den.

I kind of like that it is being passed down through the family and will try to preserve it when ds grows up in case he has children

I have a teddy - Junior Mk 2 (Junior The Original was eaten by a dog). He's 46 and rather worse for wear, is threadbare, stitched to buggery and has one eye glued in. But he's mine and I love him.

I also have Andy. An orange bear I once accidentally left in a bread shop. He's 45.

I have all my dolls and teddies in the loft plus selected toys that belonged to DS. I'm in my 60s, he's in his 20s.
I used have the teddies on display but the cats started to attack them so they went away years ago. They are all laid in boxes and covered like they are in bed! although the plastic wrapping would have suffocated them

A knitted Piglet (Winnie the Pooh's friend) I bought at a school Christmas fair when I was about 8. We are celebrating 50 years together this year! Mainly he lives under the bed but when times are tough he gets hauled in for a cuddle.

Yep A rabbit bought for me the day I was born by my now deceased grandparents. I used to drag it everywhere. Now my children and nieces and nephews play with him and he lives on the shelf by the bed.

Such nice stories!

@iklboo Lovely pic! My teddy's been to a toy's hospital twice (do you have this in your country?). It's been sewn many times.

@Inthetropics - we do have dolls' hospitals (and teddies too) but Junior has had....erm....home care. My stitching is better these days Grin

Queenofthedrivensnow · 26/08/2018 20:10

These. All but the Chad Valley teddy bear are hand made. My parents made the 4 poster bed. It's 35 years old!

CheeseTheDay · 26/08/2018 20:17

I have a special teddy bear. His name is Wallace. I've had him since I was a baby. I'm now 40. I love him.

Spillette · 26/08/2018 20:18

Yes, my uncle gave my parents a teddy bear "for the bump", the Christmas mum was pregnant with me. He's called Ivan and I'm afraid I can't take a pic right now because my sleep-fighting four year old is currently having an animated conversation with him in bed.

Whenever she's worried about spending the night apart from me I make sure she has Ivan and remind her that he contains a lifetime of my hugs!

Spillette · 26/08/2018 20:20

Ps. I'm 33 now. And stupidly over-sentimental!

BrazzleDazzleDay · 26/08/2018 20:22

No toys survived a house fire at dp's but my favourite book did. I Want A Blue Banana by Joyce Dunbar. My dc arent allowed to touch it Blush

DramaAlpaca · 26/08/2018 20:23

I was given a panda stuffed toy when I was born 54 years ago. He's a bit tatty at this stage & he lives in the back of my wardrobe but I wouldn't be without him.

Ohyesiam · 26/08/2018 20:24

Yes, but only because he looks at me with such total sadness and knowing when I try to put him in the charity shop box.

Karmagoat · 26/08/2018 20:25

I still have my two favourite care bears from the 80s, Grumpy and Bedtime bear, who live on the side of my bed. I'm 43 Grin

BikeRunSki · 26/08/2018 20:29

I have the tatty remains if a Cinderella upside down rag doll my aunt made me for my 8th birthday. She’ll be 40 in the autumn. The lace is coming off her ball dress, her kapok stuffing is all collapsed, the hair colour has run all over her stockingette face and an arm has fallen off on both sides.but I still love her.

FinallyHere · 26/08/2018 20:38

I have the remains of Teddy, chewed ears n all

In our early days, I showed him to (now) DH who visibly blanched at the prospect of the damage being loved by me might wreak on him, especially round the ears. Sigh

PeonyTruffle · 26/08/2018 20:41

I do, a pink rabbit my dad bought me from mothercare when I was born (we're 30 now!)

She is now white, bald and stitched back together but I still love her. She lives on a shelf in my DS's room now but when I was super poorly last month, I had her back for a cuddle Blush

hugoagogo · 26/08/2018 20:46

Yes a cuddly sheep, he doesn't come to bed very often these days, but sits on the chair in my room.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 26/08/2018 21:02

Ffs my pic didn't attach!

One matchbox car I somehow saved. My father binned everything when we moved back country.

However, I recently bought an old Monopoly set that I played as child and both the kids and I love playing it.

GoneWishing · 26/08/2018 21:14

These are my bears, who usually wear that stylish veil to stop them gathering dust. Bear on the left is an old straw-stuffed one, and my DB found her on a skip and brought her home to me when I was four. I assume DM checked for infestations... She's needed quite a bit of fixing over the years. Bear on the right was a gift when I was five, and went everywhere with me for a good while. She's suprisingly well preserved in her 30s.
