Anyone recommend a decent reusable insulated coffee cup for student DS?

DS will be travelling to Uni on the train daily and likes a coffee, I thought a nice insulated cup for him to fill and take with him on the train would make a nice gift. Dishwasher safe would be good. He doesn't like anything too ostentatious, cool elegance would be perfect :o

I have the metro/transit. It gets thrown in my wheelie bag with my laptop and others bounced up and down steps, on escalators, down curbs and all sorts. No leaking

I think he'll need to drink it on the train so won't need to keep it hot for too long. He's doing Computing so I don't think they are allowed anything in the labs. Saying that, he doesn't have his timetable yet so might not have any lab sessions in the morning.

Ah the Metra one might be the winner, the stainless steel one has touches of turquoise/teal which is his favourite colour... :o

Contigo or Avex, I think they’re the same but different branding. Costco don’t always have them. I’d recommend one with a lockable lid.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 25/08/2018 20:55

Contiguous are absolutely brilliant

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 25/08/2018 20:55

Contigo obviously Hmm

Twistella · 25/08/2018 20:58

What are these cintigos of which you speak? I'm sad now as I've just spent 18 on a thermos beaker that is supposed to keep drinks hot for 7 hours but it doesn't Sad

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 25/08/2018 21:00

Contigo autoseal westloop. Absolutely fantastic!

The chillies bottles are also fab but harder to drink hot drinks from IMO

Nicpem1982 · 25/08/2018 21:05

We habe the bodum ones from John Lewis, they're just clear with a black rubber heat resistant bit to hold and a black cap dish washer safe and stay hot for ages

snuffykins · 25/08/2018 21:08

Another vote for contigo here. We both have them, fill them with coffee in the morning and bring them to work. Mine regularly ends up lying down in my handbag but doesn't spill.

Also, if my husband is on the early shift, he'll fill mine at 6:15 and I won't be drinking it until 9 and it's still warm.

helpawomanout · 25/08/2018 21:09

I'm sure my contigo sometimes makes my drinks hotter, tea in particular

shoelaces · 25/08/2018 21:15

Another vote for contego. My old travel mug was amazing and I was gutted when google told me it was discontinued. I started a thread here where Contego was suggested, and it was my old cup rebranded!! Grin

Can't recommend highly enough!

Twistella · 25/08/2018 21:16

OK I don't feel sad anymore. I've googled them and they are so expensive and only keep drinks hot for 4 hours - my thermos definitely does that and was cheaper!

BeeFarseer · 25/08/2018 21:17

Contigo! I use it for both iced lattes and hot drinks.

I have the purple one which isn't dishwasher safe, and because I like to live dangerously, I sling it in the dishwasher anyway. Nearly all the purple coating has worn off and it's silver underneath.

I was looking forward to buying a new one, but the silver looks brand new, and goddammit, I think this cup would survive the apocalypse.

CutesyUserName · 25/08/2018 21:32

In a Contigo, does your tea or coffee get that weird taste/smell that it does in some flasks or hot cup beakers after an hour or two?

helpawomanout · 25/08/2018 21:40

Weird taste after about 6 hours I find, and only with tea.

I used it through my breastfeeding nights and from 10-2 it was fine, 2-6 the tea tasted funny, but it was a lot cooler by that point and had been sat in a cup for 8 hours

BoudicasBoudoir · 25/08/2018 21:46

My Nespresso one is great. My husband fills it up for me before he goes to work and it lasts all morning, through baby feeds and nappies.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 25/08/2018 21:47

I've just purchased my first Contigo from a previous MN recommendation... it's going to have its first outing tomorrow so I'll be sending my complaints direct to the MN jury if it's not up to scratch Grin

stressedoutpa · 25/08/2018 21:48

Contigo!

You can lock it and chuck it in your bag....

crikeycrumbsblimey · 25/08/2018 21:50

This is mine - life venture. Bit more flasky but doesn’t leak and stays hot for hours

Floaty2018 · 25/08/2018 21:50

Contigo! I swear by them.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/08/2018 21:51

Definitely a contigo. But you ha w to add cold water if you want to drink it within two hours. I swear it gets hotter!

Toddlerteaplease · 25/08/2018 21:52

Get the one with the smaller lid. It's easier to clean.

MummySparkle · 25/08/2018 21:59

Oooh I love a good travel mug. Don't get a Cath kidston one, the kids don't fit properly...

The contigo ones, can you put them in a bag when they're full and they still don't leak? I might have to invest in one for back to work Grin

Wolfcub · 25/08/2018 22:02

Mummy yes I do that with mine I also never empty it before coming home so it often does 4+ hours in its side getting bumped around
