What are you looking forward to eating once the weather starts to turn?

I can’t wait to cook a Sausage and Lentil stew with soda bread and a apple and plum crumble with custard. It’s become a tradition once the weather gets cold enough to wear coats x3 days in a row.

I love autumn and the changing of the seasons but don’t think I’m quite ready to contemplate winter cooking just yet.

But, since you ask:

Soup, in all its infinite glories
Stews
Cottage pie
Roast chicken served hot as opposed to with a salad

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/08/2018 20:11

It's not really a recipe as I made it up, Grump, but it's something along the lines of:
diced onion, sweet potato, carrot, red pepper
crushed garlic
Fry this all up. Add chilli, paprika and thyme, plus a teaspoon of chipotle paste and a splash of red wine.
Drain a couple of cans of black beans and mash them in a bowl. Add to pan with some water.
As it cooks, mash it with a potato masher every now and then, so that some of the sweet potato and carrots get crushed and help thicken it.
Sometimes I use one of those packs of ready chopped sweet potato and butternut squash mixed together (Sainsbo's do them), if feeling lazy.
Cook it for ages - you want everything to get all melting together. Better if cooked earlier in the day and then warmed through.
Nice with a dollop of sour cream, and even better if served with nachos and homemade guac alongside!

Stew and Dumplings!!! Definitely 😋

Touchnotthiscat · 25/08/2018 21:14

I’ve just made bramble jelly and so DH made scones - already feeling autumny here.

Also I like:
Thai pumpkin soup
Jamie’s fish pie
Moroccan chicken casserole in slow cooker
Basically anything that I can throw in the slow cooker is great - I keep a stash of frozen casserole veg so I can bung it in with chicken/random meat and stock/tomatoes and herbs/spices in the morning and feel very accomplished then waste the remainder of the day watching Netflix

DeltaG · 25/08/2018 21:22

Fondue & raclette! Tartiflette. Anything with melty cheese. I suppose these are winter foods really though.

Igneococcus · 25/08/2018 21:22

I'm making a chilli tomorrow (it feels autumnal here in Scotland) because I have so many tomatillos and need something to have with a salsa. i'm looking forward to it a lot.
Also, can't wait for all my lovely winter squashes to be ready to harvest.
