What are you looking forward to eating once the weather starts to turn?

I can’t wait to cook a Sausage and Lentil stew with soda bread and a apple and plum crumble with custard. It’s become a tradition once the weather gets cold enough to wear coats x3 days in a row.

That sounds lovely bunnyhop, do you have a recipe?

CatherineCawood · 29/08/2018 07:59

Lunarsey The Guardian soda bread recipe is fantastic and really simple. I had it the other day when my friend made it for me and I couldn't leave it alone! Highly recommend it.

Homemade roast tomato, basil and balsamic soup. It's getting chilly here so plan to make it tonight with some sourdough bread-yum!

Fish pie is a real winter favourite here
Homemade soup with toasted sandwiches for a quick and comfort food type weeknight meal.
Veggie sausage casserole with mash (sometimes served in a giant Yorkshire pudding Grin)
A big bowl of bean and veg chili with lots of grated cheese and sour cream.
Cauliflower cheese.

Pasta. We eat a lot of pasta in autumn/winter. Various pasta bakes, veggie lasagna, quorn bolognese.

Where is everyone ordering 'Stewed' from? If it's by Alan Rosenthal on Amazon it appears to be selling at either £71.75 or £184.64 - I want it, but not that much!

DaisyStarburst · 29/08/2018 11:51

Now I'm craving macaroni cheese and apple and blackberry pie/crumble!

FfionFlorist · 29/08/2018 11:53

Red cabbage and apple crumble, not together clearly.

I am from the U.S. and would anyone post the recipes for sausage and mash and sausage casserole. My husband loves any sausage.

Billydessert · 30/08/2018 08:32

Pumpkin spice wanker Grin

All the pies! Chicken and mushroom, beef, apple, pumpkin..
Beef cheek ragu. Use as bolognaise or in lasagne.
Sausage and veg tray bake with apple slices.
Lentil and aubergine stew.
Meatballs and polenta.
Mushroom risotto.
Brisket.
Ham hocks in the slow cooker (best christmas ham ever)
Lamb and pearl barley.
Mash potato with everything!

I have a ritual of doing cauliflower cheese with romanesco cauliflowers. I look out for them in my local grocery shop and buy a few as soon as they arrive. Bloody lovely!

Billydessert · 30/08/2018 08:42

User, sausage and mash is just sausages served with mashed potato and usually onion gravy which makes the dish really. Cook slices of onions slowly in oil and a bit of butter and a tablespoon of soft brown sugar until they're very soft and golden. Then top up with your stock of choice and thicken with some slaked cornflour. Which is cornflour mixed into a small amount of boiled water. You could also add a slosh of booze before the stock.
Serve with greens.

I think there has been a run on the "stewed" book fuelled by this thread lol.
I paid a fiver on amazon for mine, delivery due tomorrow, can't wait!

Titsywoo · 30/08/2018 23:29

Zaza I got mine 2nd hand on Amazon. It was actually very useful as the previous owner had added little notes of which she thought were good and very good plus little adaptions she had made. There is a chicken stew in that book with leeks and bacon lardons that is so delicious. I doubt it's great for the waistline but fuck it. I'll post the ones I like best when I get home tomorrow.

user1471439310 · 31/08/2018 16:18

Thank you very much.

Titsywoo · 31/08/2018 22:16

So the best I've tried so far in the Stewed book are the Chicken stew with cider, tarragon and asparagus, the boeuf bourgignon and the spicy ethopian stew. Will be trying many more now autumn is here!

HollySwift · 31/08/2018 22:17

I adored eating beef stew with crusty bread this week!

Next week I’m looking forward to a roast, chicken casserole and sausage & mash.

Heaven!! Be gone, stupid summer with your stupid salad.

Ellapaella · 02/09/2018 19:30

Currently cooking up a batch of @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie's black bean recipe - I can verify that it is delicious. I don't feel very autumnal though as it's 25 degrees outside!

Scorcher of a day here, but went ahead with roast chicken dinner followed by apple and cinnamon crumble made with our very own apples. Yum!

ScabbyHorse · 03/09/2018 19:00

Yum. Am having a salad tonight but after reading this, will start on the autumn flavours.

Pie and gravy and greens.
Sausage and mash.
Toad in the hole with cabbage.
Spiced butternut squash soup with garlic bread.
Leek and potato soup.

Titsywoo · 03/09/2018 22:49

Tomorrow I'm trying beef stew with beetroot and stilton - not sure about the stilton part but am willing to give it a go!

Snog · 04/09/2018 19:10

I made Coq au vin and mash to day, a family fave that dd has been begging me for. It was lovely warm weather but was still OH SO SATISFYING to eat such a tasty stew.
I feel so contented Grin
Now pondering which stew to schedule next...
