Where would you go for 3 nights by yourself in Uk?

I’m having a bit of a tough time at the moment and have got 3 nights without Ds coming up (actually, starts tomorrow!) I don’t want to stay in the house and mope, so I am thinking of chucking stuff in a bag and just going somewhere.

I’m in the north east of England, and budget is of the youth hostel / travelodge end of things.

Have looked at London, Scotland and Lake District so far but I don’t know what to do.

Somewhere I can potter about and not feel conspicuous on my own? Flowers

Not very handy for you, but I once did a solo short break to Bath. Lots to do and lovely surroundings, Definitely great for pottering!

PeridotCricket · 24/08/2018 23:17

Edinburgh if you can get somewhere during festival. Newcastle, grea5 cinema and foood.

I’d get the coach to London, sight see, walk lots and eat good food and get last minute standby tickets for the theatre.

afrikat · 24/08/2018 23:18

Edinburgh for sure. Perfect city for pottering around (although I think the festival is still on so you may not find accommodation?

York is lovely too and plenty to do to kill time and chill out

Artichoke18 · 24/08/2018 23:18

Any city you won’t be conspicuous. And what if you are, we don’t need chaperones any more! Sounds like a great idea.

MervynBunter · 24/08/2018 23:19

Liverpool It's a great city (and I'm a Londoner!)

Artichoke18 · 24/08/2018 23:19

...but forget Edinburgh on a budget in August.

CoolAsACourgette · 24/08/2018 23:22

Ooh I've been fantasising about a weekend away by myself so I'm following with interest. I would definitely second Bath and Edinburgh. Possibly too far for you, but Brighton would be perfect too.

flyingsaucersherbet · 24/08/2018 23:23

I forgot about the fringe! Arse!

I’m very tempted to just book London - it feels the most anonymous and has the most stuff I can do for free. Hadn’t considered Liverpool though!

York / Newcastle probably a bit too familiar for me at the moment. I want to go somewhere without memories!

Go to Liverpool! Do the bus tour, get off at every stop, there’s a combo ticket where you can do ferry across the Mersey. Fuck feeling conspicuous too, i’d Love a few days on my own, enjoy it!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/08/2018 23:25

York
In a heartbeat

sweetkitty · 24/08/2018 23:26

I would go to the Isle of Arran

Verbena87 · 24/08/2018 23:29

I love Liverpool too. There are amazing Egon Schiele drawings at the Tate at the moment if you’re into that sort of thing.

Lunch on Bold Street (loads of great street food/small plate type places: Mowgli do Indian street food that is glorious, great Peruvian place too)

The library is big and peaceful for quiet mooching.

Faceisamess · 24/08/2018 23:32

Manchester?

LynetteScavo · 24/08/2018 23:40

London.

Kewqueue · 24/08/2018 23:47

How about Glasgow?

nooddsocksforme · 24/08/2018 23:49

London - you can be totally anonymous there. Hoewever I was in Edinburgh last week and the atmosphere at the festival is fab with lots of street performers so you can wander for hours

IndigoApple · 24/08/2018 23:50

Whitby?

Disclaimer - I've never been but it's where I want to go if/when I get the chance of a solo break.

Maybe too close to home though?

Redteapot67 · 24/08/2018 23:51

I’d go rural Scotland - a cosy large hotel where I could walk every day then read books and just enjoy the peace and quiet and some nice food!

Titsywoo · 24/08/2018 23:52

London! I did 2 nights there on my own a couple of months ago. So much to see and do and never felt awkward eating alone etc.

Titsywoo · 24/08/2018 23:54

Here's my thread if you need ideas.

MrsMolehillMountain · 24/08/2018 23:54

Torbay

Twistella · 24/08/2018 23:57

London
Nowhere else comes close.

puguin86 · 25/08/2018 00:00

Lake District?? Liverpool or Manchester are my two favourite cities

wizzler · 25/08/2018 07:32

I went to Liverpool to see an exhibition this year. Had DC with me and hardly anytime to explore but I thought it was fantastic and is definitely on my list of places to go for a weekend.

DeathMetalMum · 25/08/2018 07:39

I'd go to the coast personally. Probably north Wales Cricceth is one of my new favourite places.

If it was a city I'd choose Liverpool or Manchester both have so many things to do (mainly museuems) for free small/budget. Liverpool just pips it for me I'm close by a love a day trip there.
