Where would you go for 3 nights by yourself in Uk?

I’m having a bit of a tough time at the moment and have got 3 nights without Ds coming up (actually, starts tomorrow!) I don’t want to stay in the house and mope, so I am thinking of chucking stuff in a bag and just going somewhere.

I’m in the north east of England, and budget is of the youth hostel / travelodge end of things.

Have looked at London, Scotland and Lake District so far but I don’t know what to do.

Somewhere I can potter about and not feel conspicuous on my own? Flowers

Liverpool has matthew street festival this weekend - free music festival across the city.

kaytee87 · 25/08/2018 07:42

If you don't have much of a budget then you might be better staying at home and using that money to do nice things at home?

HRTpatch · 25/08/2018 07:43

Just come back from Liverpool..great city!!!

DeathMetalMum · 25/08/2018 07:45

Apologies Matthew street festival isn't this weekend. They have moved it earlier in the year.

Orangesandlemons82 · 25/08/2018 07:49

I don't have any suggestions but please let us know what you decide to do!

EvilRingahBitch · 25/08/2018 07:51

You could stay in Glasgow and day trip to Edinburgh for the festival

PrimalLass · 25/08/2018 08:43

Or stay in Fife. I'm in a Fife coastal village and we are on the train line.

Housewife2010 · 25/08/2018 09:12

Definitely Liverpool. Loads to do and some great architecture. They have Harvey Nichols Beauty Bazaar if that's your thing. Great shops, museums and lovely parks. The Albert Docks have lots of museums, shops and restaurants and very close to Liverpool One for shopping.

misspops · 25/08/2018 09:21

Another vote for Liverpool. Free museums, good food, Lovely people and a great atmosphere

Dowser · 25/08/2018 09:25

I’m in ne and know what you mean about york...so close weve normally done it to death too
I definitely think Liverpool. Been wanting to go for ages

Where did you decide?
Lakes are lovely, but might be a bit solitudinous if you don’t want to be besieged by memories

ChellySmuff · 25/08/2018 09:29

Forest of Dean.

PotteringAlong · 25/08/2018 09:30

Whitby? You can get a train from Newcastle if needed. Likewise Glasgow.

NC4Now · 25/08/2018 09:33

I’ve stayed in Liverpool on my own. I’d do it again too. Great city.

MrsMoastyToasty · 25/08/2018 09:35

Bristol
Bath
Chester
York

Disfordarkchocolate · 25/08/2018 09:37

York would be my first choice. Easy to get too, loads to do and lots of accommodation. I miss living close enough for a day trip.

fontofnoknowledge · 25/08/2018 11:32

Lake District without a doubt. Plenty of Youth hostel and Airbnb Accor at reasonable price. Loads of singles walking the fells of whom a fair few would like company or not (as suits you) . Perfect place for friendship of glorious solitude.
Grasmere, aThe Langdales are beautiful and quite busy or try the Borrodale valley for something a little quieter ... (all wonderfully quiet once you're on the fells though, wherever you go)

fontofnoknowledge · 25/08/2018 11:33

Friendship OR Glorious solitude . !

Verbena87 · 25/08/2018 11:39

font Borrodale is probably my favourite place in the world, but I like having someone to cross-refer with when map reading!

hettie · 25/08/2018 11:45

St Ives....I find the sea calming so would definitely go coastal

Shopkinsdoll · 25/08/2018 11:50

York is lovely so is the Lake District. Edinburgh very busy this time of year and expensive.( I stay near Edinburgh). What about a groupon spa deal?

BarbaraofSevillle · 25/08/2018 12:40

^^ This. Short notice, BH weekend and a limited budget doesn't give you an enormous choice.

Depending on exactly what you can spend, and assuming you have a passport, I'd first try the deals section of jet2holidays and jet2 city breaks (from Newcastle for ease) or any other last minute abroad tour operator. You never know what you might find for a couple of hundred quid, which is likely to be cheaper than trains and hotels in the UK.

Failing that, I'd maybe go for one night away and do the travel/day out/stay over, more day out and then drive home sort of thing. And make sure I go out for a nice walk and get nice treaty M&S food or a takeaway when at home. Plus a few hours vegging in front of a box set or similar (that's my plan for tomorrow when it's expected to piss it down).
