Is 'fart' a vulgar or coarse word?

My OH says yes.. I'm astonished it could be considered vulgar. He would prefer I use guff or trump, I've always thought they were on the same level...

So mumsnetters, is 'fart' acceptable and if not what do you use instead?

Well I grew up in a house where the word wee wasn't even used. Apparently it's water Hmm. Poo, bum and reference to wind in any way were definite no nos. They'd be horrified if they heard the type of language I use (Not around the DCs) usually. I still don't see why farts have to be discussed though.

It's a great word!!!

Fart is ok, I'd probably encourage very young children to use trump informally though. Shart is pretty crude, but it has its place. This thread has reminded me of the Purple Ronny poem:

If your bottom burps in public
Try to say in time
Goodness gracious what a whiff
It doesn't smell like mine!

I don't say 'fart' to the kids as still feels a bit rude 😂, a hangover from childhood maybe but fine for me & OH
We used to say 'windy pop' as kids or 'pass wind'. I use a made up word with the kids now!
