Facebook Messenger, have I been blocked?

MummySparkle · 24/08/2018 18:04

I deleted FB and messenger from my phone at the start of the summer holidays. Partly due to my MH, partly to distance myself from a friend who I'd let be completely over involved in my life, and partly to encourage me to spend less time on my phone and more time with my family.

Anyway, I realised messenger was actually quite useful, so reinstalled it. Before I deleted it I hid conversations from my friend somehow so they would come up in requests but not straight to me. We are both going to a party for mutual friend of our DCs tomorrow so I thought I'd send a message to make it less awkward whilst I'm there. Tried to send it, but I got this notification... what does it mean? Have I been blocked? Has she blocked everyone? Is t to do with my settings?

I was trying to reassure myself and I seem to have made things worse!

Facebook Messenger, have I been blocked?

I don't think you're blocked, as if you're blocked you wouldn't be able to see her at all. It'd be like she wasn't on FB to find.
Not seen that message before though!

ColaCubez · 24/08/2018 18:26

It doesn't look like you've been blocked. As pp above says, she would just disappear as though she'd become invisible if you'd been blocked. It looks like she's either deleted or turned off messenger

PotteringAlong · 24/08/2018 18:27

I think it means she’s deleted it!

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 24/08/2018 18:29

That means she's deleted messenger, so isn't able to receive your message.

toothtruth · 24/08/2018 18:30

I would think it means she has deleted messenger not that you are blocked.

FurryDogMother · 24/08/2018 18:31

They could have just checked 'ignore messages' which is a global setting, not aimed at you in particular.

ColaCubez · 24/08/2018 18:37

Just read about what it means when you get that message. It could mean one of several things apparently:

  • If the person is under 18 yrs
  • Deactivation of that persons profile.
  • Restrictions imposed by Facebook if that person used Messenger/facebook for anything that violates the Facebook community guidelines.
  • You were simply blocked by that person.
Potato2242 · 24/08/2018 18:39

You can block someone on messenger but not Facebook. She's blocked your messages

icannotthinkofauser · 24/08/2018 18:41

You could be blocked, on messenger there's an option to block someone from messaging you and that's what comes up when they do try and message you

icannotthinkofauser · 24/08/2018 18:43

Just tried it with DH and yep, if you select " block this person from messaging me " that is the exact thing that comes up. So you're not blocked from her Facebook profile but you are blocked from being to contact her

MummySparkle · 24/08/2018 19:00

Right. Makes sort of sense. How does one block someone from contacting you? Is it on messenger of fb itself that you do that? How do you get to the settings bit?

The plot thickens. We are no longer friends on Facebook. Does that automatically block you on messenger I wonder?

Balls. This is not going to be fun tomorrow. We have exchanged a few messages on a group chat on WhatsApp. Supposed to be getting a group of our DCs together on Monday along with another parent. This isn't going to go well is it?

NotUmbongoUnchained · 24/08/2018 19:40

You’ve been blocked.

icannotthinkofauser · 24/08/2018 19:50

When on a conversation in messenger you click their name, then there should be a load of settings like " nicknames " " colour " etc and then it says " block " and when you click that you get the option of either block on Facebook or block messages.

Can you still see her profile when you search her?

bubbles108 · 24/08/2018 19:51

She's unfriended you and then gone into 'you' on messenger and blocked you from messaging her.

Similar affect to actual Facebook blocking but you can still see her public Facebook profile -- how lucky you are Hmm

rainbowsandsmiles · 24/08/2018 19:52

If you're no longer friends on FB, then you won't be connected on Messenger either as FB messenger is part of FB.
It's not necessarily anything against you - you say you've deactivated your account and then reinstated it again.Maybe she just had a clearout of inactive accounts and didn't think you were on it anymore, I've done that with some of my contacts before.

girlalmighty · 24/08/2018 19:53

Yes if you get blocked on messenger this comes up

Cheekyfseverywhere · 24/08/2018 20:26

Lol you deserve to be blocked as well you did the same to her pretty much. Your own fault I hope it's awkward as fuck! Grin

MummySparkle · 24/08/2018 21:06

cheekyfs what? I didn't block her personally, I blocked everybody!

OP posts:
MummySparkle · 24/08/2018 21:08

And yes, can still see her public profile and lots of her posts as they've got mutual friends tagged in them. Wonder if her husband has unfriended me too...

OP posts:
AlFrescoFiasco · 24/08/2018 21:16

So, have you exchanged any friendly messages with each other on the WhatsApp group? If she still seems hunky dory with you on that group I'd just take it that she's had a fb clear out of friends who are no longer active.

Pippylou · 24/08/2018 21:17

It might be that she tidied up her friend list & if it was deactivated, she deleted you. I had a friend who swore he'd not use FB again so I deleted his blank profile & now he's back, we're not friends.

I went off FB & Messenger didn't work, even tho it's supposed to, so I got cross texts off people who thought I'd blocked them.

MummySparkle · 24/08/2018 21:46

Not really no, she's mostly ignored my messages or given one word answers, yet been chatty with the other woman on there. Not enough to call her up on though.

Her hubby is still friends with me on fb. DH and I are pretty sure it's mind games. We were really close friends up until a month ago when I stepped away from social media. I'm thinking it's possibly because I've had play dates with other mums during that time. One because she was working and I had her DS, and the other because she lives locally and has siblings the same age as my two

icannotthinkofauser · 24/08/2018 22:01

Don't stress about it, I'm sure it'll be fine :)

MummySparkle · 24/08/2018 22:19

Yeah, I'm just going to go tomorrow and be friendly and smiley to all of the mums, make sure the DCs have a good time, then come home and sleep from the exhaustion of talking to people Blush
