What name can Starbucks definitely not get wrong?

I'm sick of being asked to spell my name in Starbucks. It's a normal name, probably not chosen very often nowadays but still common enough.

Today I decided to be Jo. 2 letters, no explanation required.

But no, they asked me if it was Joe with an E or Jo without an E. Does it even matter if they put an E on it or not?

I realise I could solve this problem by just not going to Starbucks but I like Starbucks. Help me find a name they can't possibly get wrong or have to ask me to spell. Any suggestions?

What is their reasoning behind not just saying 'Ok, that's £4 for your large hot chocolate, your order number is 409.'?

Why do they go down the name route?

It's not impossible for two people in the same queue to have common names like Nick, David, Clare etc etc. At least with numbers you would not get that happening.

Thishatisnotmine · 22/08/2018 20:07

Don't, choose Jo! I have been Joe, Joan, Jean, Jade, Jane. More often than not I now actually say Joan. Quite like it and they get it right! But it's not my name!

When dh went in he didn't know it was a first name thing and gave his surname. His very long surname 😂

Tempted to say Nicolas next time and see what happens. Grin

I always give fake names in Starbucks too, Also starwas ed with Jo in an attempt to give them something easy but they fluffed it 75% of the time. I recently went for Lola thinking that was foolproof but no, I was asked to spell it out. Unfortunately DS (4) was with me and said “who’s Lola?” Which made me feel like a scoobydoo villain who would have gotten away with it if it wasn’t for those darn kids Grin

My Starbucks name is Costa.

HildaZelda · 22/08/2018 20:31

I have an Irish friend whose name is Caoilfhionn (pronounced KEE-lin)

Oh the fun she had when she moved to the UK first! Grin
Her 'Starbucks name' is Sarah!

PasstheStarmix · 23/08/2018 07:20

Don’t say Joan as they confuse that with June; the confusion is endless

PasstheStarmix · 23/08/2018 07:21

Sam maybe a safe bet?

PasstheStarmix · 23/08/2018 07:21

They could confuse the latter with Cam bit of spelled out may be okay.

PasstheStarmix · 23/08/2018 07:22

but if*

PasstheStarmix · 23/08/2018 07:25

‘ ‘What do they do if you take your own cup? Presumably they're aren't writing on it.

You should try Starbucks sometime grin

They write it on a sticker, and put that on the cup.’

Not if you put the sticker on first!

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 23/08/2018 07:28

After Domino's spelt my name completely wrong, I've no idea what Starbucks name I'd use.

Foslady · 23/08/2018 07:31

Caramel Macchiato

I have a fairly run of the mill name but with an unusual spelling.

Starbucks spell it right almost every frickin time, hence I'm convinced they deliberately do try to spell your name wrong for the publicity.

In the 37 years of my life Starbucks is the only place to ever spell my name correctly Hmm

WilburIsSomePig · 23/08/2018 07:47

My friend's name is Susan. She received her coffee with Soozan on it.

FrangipaniBlue · 23/08/2018 07:49

In fact recently in Paris the barista got my DH name so far wrong it wasn't even a word, despite him having the masculine version of a fairly common French girls name.

Mine, which is very English (Scottish actually) she spelled correctly without even asking.

WTAF?

AsAProfessionalFekko · 23/08/2018 07:51

Auld alliance 😉

Cadsuane · 23/08/2018 07:59

My Dds names are difficult to spell(Gaelic names). They use Loki and Thor at the Starbucks beside the school.
When in Paris they couldn't even get dd2's name when she spelled it out so had her write it herself... Then no one could pronounce itSmile

@myicloudisfull on the subject of travel mugs in Starbucks...I witnessed an interesting situation yesterday. Customer had a Costa travel mug and was told she couldn't get 25p environmental discount for re usable mug 😠 She dug her heels in and manager relented, so not sure what their policy is.

Here's a name suggestion: COSTA 🤥

Babybearsporij · 23/08/2018 09:30

Lol at the Costa mug.

I always used to give a fake name in Starbucks and spell it for them as well. However, then they joined Blue Light Card so I have to show my card to get a discount and it's got my name on it. Grr. Spoiling my fun. My name isn't hard to spell anyway.

CalonGlas · 23/08/2018 09:37

My Starbucks name is Pam. Even so, the conversation always goes

'What name?'
'Pam.'
'Pam?!' [incredulous look]
'yes, Pam.'
'As in...?'
'Pam.'

It gives my mornings a pleasantly Victoria Wood flavour.

Emma765 · 23/08/2018 09:42

They get Emma wrong surprisingly often. I think it might be my accent, northern English so pronounced like Emmeh.

They've given up before now and just shouted it order. It's 4 letters Confused

DappledThings · 23/08/2018 09:52

*People should just give their name as what they've ordered

"I'm tall, skinny latte" grin*

This is what I do. I insist my name is cappuccino.
