Kids current accounts

Can anybody recommend a bank or building society that enables a 14 year old to hold a current account with a debit card.
The debit card for access is the most important.

Or is there another way I can transfer money for my child to access.
She doesn't want the cash as it's a lot per month to secure.

All of the high street banks have current accounts for children, though not all have contactless cards (because some banks don't authorise contactless transactions instantly, which could result in a child being overdrawn, and banks aren't allowed to give credit to children).

It's the access she needs, as I won't be with her.
All the ones I've tried won't give a debit card, it wouldn't have to be contactless it could be pin only, but can't seem to find one.

My DD has this one, which comes with a visa debit card.

My ds 14 has a NatWest one with a debit card, I think you can get them from age 11. It doesn’t have contactless but it is linked to Apple Pay on his phone so he can use it ‘contactless’ that way which seems to be a loophole.

Natwest kids account comes with a debit card and can be turned into a student account if and when the need arises

We opted for non-contactless.

If your daughter will be using it abroad, I think www.nationwide.co.uk/products/current-accounts/flexone/whats-flexone doesn't have charges (there's a recent thread about it somewhere)

Does it have to be a current account?
My ds' have a go Henry account which I put their pocket money into, they're able to use contactless and withdraw money.
You can also set the amount they are allowed to spend in one transaction.

It's not a loophole, because Apple Pay/Google Pay/Samsung Pay transactions are authorised immediately by the bank, so there is no chance of a transaction going through if you don't have the money.

Ds got a Nationwide account aged 12 which has a debit card. Seems to suit him so far

Most banks offer a current account with debit card from age 11. My dc have them with santander. Dd used to have one with Bank of Scotland. Often called an under 19 account

My 11 has an HSBC current account with a debit card (not contactless)

TSB is where I got my first bank card from at 13. I was given a debit card and was able to use it without an adult. Could use mobile banking, and go into the bank to withdraw.

All I needed was an adult with me to sign and a pound to put into the account to open it.

We've recently opened Santander 123 for ds who is 14 - easy online application and does what you need (I hope, as its what we need!)

The Nationwide FlexOne account is great, visa debit card, no charges even abroad, separate FlexOne savings account for larger amounts if they want it and full online banking access.

Nationwide card is contactless and can be used for ApplePay, so proper banking for teens

My DC have the Bank of Scotland one, which is the same as Halifax. You can have a card from 11.

Which banks have you tried that won't allow a 14 year old to have a debit card? It seems unusual these days.

DS is 13 and has a current account with Barclays.
He has a debit card with a pin and used it in shops and at cash machines. He’s never had a problem using it without an adult present.
We opted for a non contactless card through choice but he could have had it.
He has the Barclays app on his phone so he can check his balance, make transfers, make online payments, etc.
I can also transfer money to his account online.

Dd 11has a Nationwide account ( recently opened) debit card with contactless. Online banking app so she can check her balance. Text alert set up to notify her if there is under £10 in the account. No problems using the card on her own.

My 3 DC all had a current account with RBS. All had a debit card with a PIN but not contactless.

Just opened Santander 123 for 14 year old dd1. As someone else mentioned- it was very easy as could do it all online. Debit card and contactless.

I also opened dd and ds accounts with Santander online. You upload ID so you don't need to go into a branch

Where have you tried op that won't give you one?

My son had a Santander account from 11 years old with a debit card

Santander 123 mini current account - my DD has had one since she was 11 and I will be applying for one for my DS next week.
