While I was asleep in bed!! What the actual...?!?!
I turned over in my half sleep and felt something which I instinctively brushed away with my hand. Then I felt a pain on the side of my head. I turned on the light and there was a bloody wasp crawling around my bed 🙀

Now scared to go back to sleep in case there are more!

Ouch! Did you kill it? Are you ok?

Hurryupbacktoschool · 22/08/2018 03:38

I’m fine thanks, just a bit freaked out and puzzled as to why it was crawling around my bed.

I can’t sleep now!

I woke up once with my nose feeling ticklish only to find one of those spindly spider things* crawling across my face.

*Which, from what I learned from someone on MN so may not actually be true eat the massive spiders (I still don’t understand how this could be possible).

Ouch! I hope ypure ok now. I can recommend ice, piriton and ibuprofen. I've been awake since half 5 because one of the 3 wasp stings I got yesterday is itching like mad. Was stung on my bottom lip, as well as shoulder and neck - despite piriton, ibuprofen and ice I look like the world's worst advert for lip fillers!! Little sod just went mad and because I was on my scooter I couldn't easily get away. Slightly traumatised from the way it attacked me and I couldn't get it off!

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 22/08/2018 06:46

Wasps seem particularly mental this year. My young son was stung last week and his friend a couple of weeks ago. I've stopped eating outside completely because they're being such fuckers.

SargeantAngua · 22/08/2018 06:48

Maybe something to do with the finny summer we've had temperature wise?

Twistedfateofone · 22/08/2018 06:49

@itsniceitsdifferent I agree, my friends son came to us crying and saying there had been a wasp on his head, he'd also been stung!

shakeyourcaboose · 22/08/2018 06:58

Wasps are evil fuckers and am glad did not see this in the wee small hours or would never have slept!

Hurryupbacktoschool · 22/08/2018 07:09

SargeantAngua - poor you! That’s scary. I wis the buggers died after stinging like Bee’s. I hope your sting has stopped itching. Mine isn’t too bad but I can still tell where it was as it still feels a bit tender.

I got stung in the mouth by a wasp when I was a child. It flew into my crisp packet and I put a crisp with it on into my mouth without realising.

Thanks. No, still itchy and sore and very fed up. It did a good job! Glad yours isn't too bad. Gaaaah to being stung in the mouth! Lip is bad enough!

I think I might hibernate until it gets frosty www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/08/09/wasp-warning-hot-weather-brings-worst-year-ever-stinging-insects/amp/

Don't think I'm going anywhere today 🤣

I just got stung by a wasp!
PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 22/08/2018 07:16

👋 That sounds horribly painful!

I still haven't forgotten, when I was 18, so more than 30 years ago, my DGM had been spraying a wasp, I was on the sofa, crossed my ankles and felt excruciating pain. A dying wasp had crawled on to my ankle, I'd squashed it and it had retaliated!

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 22/08/2018 07:18

Oh god Angua, you look like a Spitting Image puppet! Sorry.

EleanorLavish · 22/08/2018 07:21

I remember the shock of just how painful a wasp sting was, it really hurt for 24 hours! I found Waspeze spray was good.
Wasn’t there a thread on here once where a wasps nest fell through a roof onto the Ops bed??

SargeantAngua · 22/08/2018 07:23

👋 Ouch! My first sting as a kid was a dead/dying one too..lying on the floor in front of the telly I felt something between my toes and rubbed them together without thinking. There was screaming...and a very sore swollen foot. My second I tried to rescue from drowning in a fruit salad. Also as a kid. Also screaming. Also very sore itchy swollen hand for days. That was it until yesterday's nightmare encounter...

SargeantAngua · 22/08/2018 07:25

Oh god Angua, you look like a Spitting Image puppet! I would stick my tongue out at you but it hurts! Grin

Wasn’t there a thread on here once where a wasps nest fell through a roof onto the Ops bed?? aaaaarrrrgggghhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! That's not a thought I ever want to have again!

Angie169 · 22/08/2018 07:46

Watch Michael McIntyre clip on YouTube on dealing with wasps and bees ( sorry I don't know how to link things to here )
Very funny imo. It won't make your pain / swelling go away but you can have a laugh

Justabadwife · 22/08/2018 08:11

Oh my god. That happend to me last year. I was asleep and I heard a 'buzzzz' i went back to sleep then my shoulder hurt. I hit whatever was on there and threw it on DHs pillow. Then I woke up and was realised what had happened. DH had to come upstairs and check the room and bed to make sure there were no more.

Hurryupbacktoschool · 22/08/2018 08:21

Angus that looks sore!

Eleanor 🙀 You’re terrifying me. My bedroom is in the loft and now I’m going to be paranoid that the roof will cave in and I will be covered with wasps 😭

OP posts:
Hurryupbacktoschool · 22/08/2018 08:23

I actually thought at first that I had scratched my face when brushing off the imaginary thing. Then when the pain didn’t stop I woke properly and thought I’d been bitten by a spider. I wasn’t expecting a wasp in my sodding bed. There was no buzzing the evil twat was just crawling around trying to burrow under my pillow.

Mia184 · 22/08/2018 09:20

I discovered that by placing a small bowel with sugar water ensures that the wasps stay outdoors. Plus they don't fly around me when I'm outside and also leave my cat alone.

I just got stung by a wasp!
DiabolicalMess · 22/08/2018 10:26

They are particularly hateful this year 😖

BlueTongueSkink · 22/08/2018 10:58

We had a hornet in the house the other day. It was bloody massive. We did manage to get it out of the house with no stings but I really hope it doesn't come back with its friends!

Hope your swelling goes down soon Angua!

DMCWelshCakes · 22/08/2018 11:03

They are bastards. Got stung this year for the first time in about 35 years.

Hurt like shit for a few days, but no lasting damage other than the deepening of my hatred for the stingy little gits.

bluerunningshoes · 22/08/2018 11:04

hornets eat wasps. so I would be glad to have hornets around. they won't land on my ice cream either or drown in my soda...

and if they do sting (very very rare!) the sting is much weaker than a wasp.

they do look impressive though!
