While I was asleep in bed!! What the actual...?!?!
I turned over in my half sleep and felt something which I instinctively brushed away with my hand. Then I felt a pain on the side of my head. I turned on the light and there was a bloody wasp crawling around my bed 🙀

Now scared to go back to sleep in case there are more!

I got bitten on my temple by something 2 weeks ago. My eye swelled closed and I looked like I'd been punched for about 5 days. Most attractive it was.

BuffysFavouriteStake · 22/08/2018 11:12

I've had a wasp sting me in bed twice now. Just went to brush away something tickling me, and ouch! One got me on the hand when I picked up a bunch of keys it was crawling on. I think the little stripy bastards just hate me.

Now react badly to them too, but its hard to avoid them when you're asleep!!

BlueTongueSkink · 22/08/2018 11:31

@bluerunningshoes I didn't know that about hornets, thank you! I'll panic less now if I see another one!

Just been to the pharmacy and they suggested tiger balm (red) for the itching. Ahhhhhh it's finally stopped, for the first time in hours. I thoroughly recommend it if of anyone else is itching from their stings. Ok for the face too apparently.

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 22/08/2018 18:04

Ds (7) got stung last week. The little fucker just landed on his arm and stung him. We now have total hysteria whenever a flying creature is in his vicinity...Another reason to hate the little flying bastards.

I've now stopped hanging washing on the line to stop bringing them (and spiders) in with it. So not worth the risk!

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 22/08/2018 23:13

Hope you washed your hands thoroughly Angua! Same rule as raw chillis.

SargeantAngua · 23/08/2018 06:37

Yep, I washed them very carefully before I took my contact lenses out!

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 23/08/2018 08:11

Thank goodness! That stuff's vicious!

MasonJar · 23/08/2018 08:39

Wasps are spiteful little buggers.
I'd never been stung until last year, was out with dog, went to pick up poo and suddenly there were loads of wasps crawling over my hand stinging me. Stupid dog had poo'd on a wasps nest Shock.
More wasps joined in as I ran which really scared me as they seemed on a mission to get me, stinging my arms and crawling down the neck of my t shirt, it was like a nightmare.
I had so many stings I couldn't count them and my hands were swollen for days.

MasonJar · 23/08/2018 08:40

The dog was fine BTW.

SargeantAngua · 23/08/2018 12:02

That's horrible MasonJar!! My 3 stings are bad enough, and 1 wasp going crazy was pretty scary, but that's the stuff of nightmares! Glad you were ok.

ginandnappies · 23/08/2018 14:08

They seem to be on a mission this year! Luckily we've got a bit of a colder spell so haven't seen any today but they are obsessed with my front door. Trying to get the pram out, baby in and door locked without letting any in is a tough task!

SallyOMalley · 23/08/2018 14:44

They're horrible this year. someone told me it's something to do with the cold winter and late spring, followed by a hot summer. They've woken up with a cob on and have turned into stripy hooligans.

My 2 DCs both got stung on holiday - the owners of the cottage where we were staying have had 5 wasp nests removed this year. Ugh.

Hurryupbacktoschool · 23/08/2018 21:36

I’ve been googling for wasp traps to stop them coming in to my house!

We used to make them as kids - jam jar with some jam or sugar mixed with hot water to dissolve - maybe 1/4 full, then cling film with holes in over the top so the little buggers fly in, can't get out and drown...

Rafflesway · 24/08/2018 15:07

OMG! I am bloody terrified of anything with a black and yellow stripey jacket, (and flies 😒).

After reading this thread i doubt I will ever go to bed again. Never been stung - touch wood - but Mason's experience sounds absolutely horrific. Shock

mosessupposes · 24/08/2018 15:12

Do NOT be relaxed around hornets, or wasps for that matter. Hornets, if they are disturbed, will sting and they will chase you. I know somebody who nearly died from a hornet sting, you don't want to test out whether or not you are allergic.

NuffingChora · 24/08/2018 15:19

Look at this bastard which landed on my window the other day - this is my hand against the glass (on the inside THANK GOD) for scale... half the size of my bloody thumb. I assume a hornet of some description?! Seems way too massive for a wasp. I hate them!

I just got stung by a wasp!
ginandnappies · 24/08/2018 17:45

Ewww @NuffingChora that's gave me the fear! Anything that flies I'm pretty scared of, except bees. I like bees :)
