iklboo · 22/08/2018 09:07

Giraffes have no vocal cords,

My party trick is an impression of a giraffe singing the Spanish National anthem (which has no words) Grin

Babies don't have kneecaps (they form later).

The same gene that makes hair red has an impact on nocioception (pain), so redheads tend to be a bit unpredictable in their response to anaesthetics/pain relief drugs.

StealthPolarBeart, no been here on another thread, French Guiana is not an overseas territory. It has no flag, no currency of its own, it uses the Euro. It is legally French and actually part of the EU.

Fortnight is short for fourteen nights, I read that recently and was amazed it hadn't occurred to me before.

StealthPolarBear · 22/08/2018 09:53

Ooh how interesting. So they don't need a passport to travel between the two?

placemats · 22/08/2018 10:04

Re the lower and upper Nile:

In Northern Ireland there is the Upper and Lower Bann. The Upper river Bann starts in the Mourne Mountains, a southerly part of Northern Ireland the Lower Bann ends in the north at Portstewart, where it discharges into the North Atlantic ocean.

A horse can jump higher than a house

Very true, given that houses can’t jump.

LinoleumBlownapart · 22/08/2018 10:15

StealthPolarBear you'd need ID to fly, most airlines don't let you fly without a passport but no you wouldn't officially. You probably wouldn't want to go, it's fighting for its independence at the moment and feelings are hostile, it has severe levels of poverty which France, until recently, has tried to do very little about. It houses a European space station though, that they have money for Hmm.

I love this thread. I can't think of any good facts right now though Sad

How about baked beans are raw when packaged into their tins. They are cooked in the tins before the ins are labelled.

Angie169 · 22/08/2018 10:37

All the ones involved x or adding numbers together are giving me a headache
some of the other facts are interesting but how many are true .
The only one I can think of that hasn't already been said is,

You can't fold a square piece of paper in half more than 7 times

GladAllOver · 22/08/2018 10:37

Fortnight is short for fourteen nights, I read that recently and was amazed it hadn't occurred to me before.
And a week is still called a sennight by some people.

GladAllOver · 22/08/2018 10:41

Surprised that no ones mentioned Center parcs is NOT under a dome or that the channel tunnel is under the sea bed not on it.
If it was on the seabed it would be a tube, not a tunnel.

Miyah · 22/08/2018 10:48

Re fortnight in America most people don’t know what a fortnight is, they don’t use it regularly like we do in the UK. Also putting ‘x’ on the end of messages as kisses is something Americans don’t do

placemats · 22/08/2018 11:07

Up to the number 20 all multiples of 9 have an answer that will add up to nine.

e.g. 9 x 14 = 126 1+2+6 = 9

MongerTruffle · 22/08/2018 11:19

French Guiana is an overseas department of France. Overseas departments are, for most purposes, a part of France. Overseas territories are not.

Velociraptors were about the same size as chickens.

But... but... but... Jurassic Park?!?! Grin

I'd like to think this would make them less terrifying but I once ventured into a chicken shed as a child and I've not yet recovered.
