Can I ask you our opinion on cupcake flavours?

I’m doing a big food festival at the weekend. Obviously I know cupcakes are not for everyone but they still have their place so I’m trying to make my stall interesting and to stand out.

I have

Strawberry and prosecco
Gin and tonic
Strawberry milkshake
Salted caramel
Chocolate
Vanilla
Lemmon
Cookies and cream
Cherry bakewell
Carrot

Also have gluten free chocolate and lemon.

Having large cakes of
Red velvet (this is a vegan recipe but you wouldn’t know)
Victoria sponge
Chocolate orange
Tropical

I’m having brownies too and cookies. Have I missed anything?

bigfatbloomers Thank you very much. I won’t be able to get off the stall for Val and James. I’ve got an hour cover to see Steven and Ed, my favourite from last year and ed was the first ever winner so Dd and I really want to meet them both. Dd is 11 and is in training to take the business on 😁

Chocolate orange - made with marmalade, goes down well in my office

I do a pimms cupcake in the summer - in the batter and buttercream, topped with a fresh strawberry and mint

Gin & tonic - how did those turn out? I usually put gin and tonic in the batter and gin in the buttercream for a kick

I do a chocolate and raspberry, and a white chocolate and strawberry - the fruit puree is squeezed into the centre of the cake as I find the flavour gets lost mixed in the batter

Rainbow, rainbow, rainbow, weather its a big cake sponge or the frosting on top of a cupcake, kids love them and are a good seller unicorn sneeze, fart, poop,
trust me its a seller..

If you are doing options for those with intolerances and allergies it would be great to have the ingredients showing/ available. I'm on a low FODMAP diet for IBS and find treats challenging as so often there is something in them I can't eat (for sweet stuff this is wheat, milk/cream, honey/most sugar substitutes, some nuts, dried and stone fruits and ripe bananas) if things are labelled with what is in them it feels like I can make a much safer choice. Absolutely not essential of course, but really nice if not too much hassle. Meringues are my go to if in doubt, my local bakery does lovely chocolate (dipped), lavender and lemon meringues (the lavender is sprinkled, the lemon has zest in the mix).

I'd do a shit-ton of basic shortbread biscuits too, either with icing or half dipped in chocolate.

Choc/mint is always a good combo for cakes/buns too. And don't forget flapjack! Or marshmallow squares!

TiffinBox · 21/08/2018 22:12

Call the pineapple & coconut cake pina colada flavour.

JamesDelayneysTattoos · 21/08/2018 22:18

ihuntmonsters I do have an allergy sheet available to look at but maybe I’ll hang a larger one up. Thank s for that, people might not ask.

Definitely getting some rainbows in there, the world is rainbow mad. Sponge and cookies.

dropzoneone it’s a primrose bakery recipe, you make a syrup and drizzle it plus gin in the batter. It’s actually quite refreshing. You have to be careful not to put too much syrup be ause it make slime them a little dense if you put too much in. Pima sounds nice. Are you a baker?

tiffinbox of course. Obvious when you say it out loud. 😂

Grin you can stick a bit of rum in the mix to make it more authentic......Wink

EnidButton · 21/08/2018 22:57

I really like that you have gluten free options and more than one! That hardly ever happens here. I'd be straight on those.

Gluten free brownies are actually much nicer than normal ones. Might be a bit late now though. For future though, you should definitely consider them.

Good luck with it, hope you have a very successful day.

JamesDelayneysTattoos · 21/08/2018 22:58

enidbutton I do have gluten free brownies, I haven’t listed them here.

It’s a 3 day event. I’m going to be dead on Monday night.

I'd try (before I went gf) a pineapple and coconut one but would avoid a pina colada one because I hate the taste of alcohol in food and I'd assume it had alcohol in it because of the other two. (Unless I haven't read the thread properly and it does.)

EnidButton · 21/08/2018 23:00

Ooh lovely JamesD. I'd be at your stall a few times then. Grin

Daisymay2 · 21/08/2018 23:01

Elderfloer went down well when I did a stall, and also sticky toffee!

OlennasWimple · 21/08/2018 23:02

I'd drop the strawberry milkshake because you've already got one strawberry flavoured one

The others sound lovely - good luck!

JamesDelayneysTattoos · 21/08/2018 23:04

Elder flower, of course. What with it being good enough for his royal highness and all.

Hmm, hadn’t thought of people assuming alcohol. Maybe I’ll make it clear on the label, no alcohol.

Neapolitan ice cream, rainbow cupcakes, glitter bomb (I like the look), snickers/mars/after eight/, cheesecake cupcake.

FlyingMonkeys · 21/08/2018 23:26

Gingerbread with toffee or cream cheese icing.

MerryMarigold · 21/08/2018 23:36

The chocolate bar theme would be good with kids. When we were on holiday the kids all wanted toblerone/ ferrero/ kinder/ oreo ice-creams.

Personally, I love lemon, lime or coffee/ walnut. I think a lime drizzle would be delicious rather than lemon drizzle.

JamesDelayneysTattoos · 21/08/2018 23:38

So many great ideas. Good job there are 3 days to fill.

rosablue · 22/08/2018 00:30

how about something like a fridge cake or rocky road? Or cornflake/rice crispy cake nests? they (all 4 previously mentioned) always used to be the first thing that people made for when we had bake sales at school... cookies and cup cakes were much slower sellers.

MerryMarigold · 22/08/2018 07:41

Will people be coming early/ needing breakfast? I suggest a honey, granola and greek yoghurt cupcake. Also cereal bars/ flapjacks.

rosablue · 22/08/2018 17:46

Or breakfast muffins if they're there early (maybe with a reminder that they'll be just as nice tomorrow morning warmed through, so that people buy them to take home for breakfast too)...
