The Poor have never had it so good!

There has never been such a good time to be poor as now! Compared to 50 or 100 or 200 years ago the poor in the UK and other developed countries have never had it so good!

OP posts:
Samcro · 21/08/2018 11:54

its a shame the op had to be so goady, its an interesting topic. life was so hard back then.
but saying the poor have it good now is just well................Goady

Gettingbackonmyfeet · 21/08/2018 11:56

OP on then off chance that this not some elaborate reverse or joke

How do you explain me...i have a law degree , a postgraduate diploma in management and my DP has a degree in computer science....and yet due to me having a stroke earlier in the year we are struggling to survive and even now back in fulltime (and some) work we are currently limiting our food To a small meal a day until we get paid so the kids eat and don't notice anything is wrong? All due to bills incurred while I was lying in emergency major response in the hospital and the resulting fall out (insanely grateful for the NHS who saved my life and kept me as me because of the hospital response but don't assume free medical care means you get off financially Scot free...you don't, when you're living with two childcare bills and everything else....the debt from that incident can run into the thousands)

Did I not work hard enough? Pesky body ....should really be telling it how good I've got it shouldn't I?

Don't judge until you understand ,actually don't judge at all ...bigots rarely have the wherewithal to understand the minutae of social complexity surrounding depreciation of living experience versus income so pop off

flowerythorns · 21/08/2018 12:03

My FIL is like you op- but why be gleeful about how bad it was back then?

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 21/08/2018 12:08

Thats the only way I can afford to get drunk

You can afford to get drunk?? Shock clearly you have too much money. You’re not poor. You don’t know what poor is.

FoldyRoll · 21/08/2018 12:08

So OP has already decided that there are the deserving poor and the indolent poor (mostly luck with health decides which you are). Next stop Malthus?

Jamboree05 · 21/08/2018 12:39

Oh my fucking christ.

This has to be a joke...

OP, you are clearly an absolute cretin. I can't even begin to tackle your posts in a constructive way as you've said so many things that are just utter bollocks.

HoneyDragon · 21/08/2018 12:41

Having read the op I have concluded that having made things better than they were 200 years ago there is still always room for improvement.

I’m totes rich because I don’t drink at all....even dubious home brew.

Timeisslippingaway · 21/08/2018 14:31

I get the feeling OP might be quite young with the notion that life is oh so easy if you just work harder. My DP wasted 6 years of his life at college and uni for what? To earn the same a month as I do in 2 jobs which are in no way related to his qualification. I left school at 16, have no A levels to my name and a couple of NC's from college (different subjuect).
Get a grip OP.

ListenLinda · 21/08/2018 14:34

I assume you are a troll OP, or a fucking idiot. I worked hard at school, I’m educated to degree level and I am skint. Your point is invalid, you moron.

Septima · 21/08/2018 14:47

Boris, is that you? 😬

BitchQueen90 · 21/08/2018 14:57

This has to be sarcasm.

StrangeLookingParasite · 21/08/2018 14:59

It's actually true, in that being poor was even worse a hundred years ago, but it's setting the bar pretty low to say yay, people aren't starving in the streets as much.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 21/08/2018 15:06

Ive already reported the thread as many PBB re-register and then post goady thread titles.

anotherangel2 · 21/08/2018 15:10

Internationally OP has a point. The Chinese government have made it their main priority to reduce poverty and they are doing a fantastic job of it and this is reducing the total number of people in poverty in the world.

Now is not a good time to be poor. 15 years ago things were much better for poor people in England.

longwayoff · 21/08/2018 15:20

Impressive marks cat. Shame you didn't give the same attention to history, it may have helped you reach a more informed opinion concerning The Poor.

AnnabelleLecter · 21/08/2018 15:39

Being poor is always shit. Always.

50andgoingstrong · 21/08/2018 15:59

You are deluded. Being poor is still shit.

OutPinked · 21/08/2018 16:08

We are all fortunate to have the NHS but it is obviously extremely flawed. Waiting times have never been so long for example. We are also lucky to have a free education system but again, it is flawed. All boils down to money and how the government distribute it, sadly the tories have never been efficient at managing the public sector so it’s currently crushed across the board. I teach so see it first hand.

Tories have also slashed benefits and fucked around with the whole system creating universal credit so some people have now lost out on money or are having to wait weeks to get that money.

Also food banks are being used more than ever before. Rates of homelessness have risen.

So no, I don’t think the poor have ‘never had it so good’ Boris.

JeremyCorbynsBeard · 21/08/2018 16:08

Why is anyone responding to this goady fucker? It's clear she's only here to wind you all up. Don't take the bait.

SlartiAardvark · 21/08/2018 16:10

It’s not remotely comparable. People are losing their jokes, starving to death and are driven i suicide by this government. Your comments make me feel sick.

Yes, and 50, 100, 200 years ago more people were losing their jobs, starving to death & driven to suicide - as well as dying young, being worked to death, living in the workhouse & catching all sorts of diseases...

So the OP is perfectly correct - the poor have never had it so good.

But don't let that get in the way of a good old knee jerk reaction....

SlartiAardvark · 21/08/2018 16:12

Being poor is still shit.

She types on her phone/tablet/PC.....

You have no idea what it's like to be poor - there are plenty of people in the world who would do anything to have living standards a quarter as good as you whiners....

BlancheM · 21/08/2018 16:13

Yes it's fucking brilliant isn't it.

The Poor have never had it so good!
BlairWaldorfsHeadband · 21/08/2018 16:14

You have no idea what it's like to be poor - there are plenty of people in the world who would do anything to have living standards a quarter as good as you whiners....

Are you aware you’re using a logical fallacy?

Nebularin · 21/08/2018 16:17

What happened with your further maths!

Your OP is a bit on the goady side though don't you think? I don't think it's useful to compare with 200 years ago. And working hard is not automatically some way out of poverty, and social mobility is much more difficult nowadays.

PestymcPestFace · 21/08/2018 16:19
