A few times I have come across posts taking the piss out of the name Debbie ! I rather like this name and don't think it's 'chavvy' at all. So, is it a chav name ? (Asking for a friend) Grin

Debbie/Deborah is just a bit dated, that's all.

SuperstarDJ · 20/08/2018 21:28

I don’t think it’s chavvy I just associate it with a certain era - v popular in the 70s as most Debbie’s I know are in their 40s.

SnuggyBuggy · 20/08/2018 21:28

I don't think it's chav but it's more a name for the baby's granny.

LML83 · 20/08/2018 21:29

Not chavvy at all. I know 2 debbie's both mid 30s. Think it's a nice name didn't realise it was considered chavvy.

Scabetty · 20/08/2018 21:30

A chav name is any name that a chav has. The Head of the school I work at is a Debbie and she isn’t what I imagine a chav would be.

daffodillament · 20/08/2018 21:30

I don't think it's chav but it's more a name for the baby's granny. Hee hee !

Not at all, but it is a bit dated, very much a 1970s name to my mind.

daffodillament · 20/08/2018 21:32

LML Agreed.

I know a few Debbie's , all born circa late 60s/70s .

MarthasGinYard · 20/08/2018 21:33

No it's just 70's

HolyMountain · 20/08/2018 21:33

It’s old fashioned, not a name you’d see on a new born these days.

Neshoma · 20/08/2018 21:33

Trace' and Shazza - yes

JackietheBackie · 20/08/2018 21:33

No, and there is no such thing as a “chav” name. People of all classes are called all sort so of names, with quite a cross over.

flyingsaucersherbet · 20/08/2018 21:33

I love all the debbie’s I know. But... it’s very dated for a baby nowadays i would say!

ShirleyPhallus · 20/08/2018 21:34

Just reminds me of Year 2000 by Pulp which is w song I LOVE

So on that basis I think it’s a great name and due a revival

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 20/08/2018 21:36

It's also in 'song for whoever' by The Beautiful South
Grin

daffodillament · 20/08/2018 21:36

Jackie you are right. Were you born in 70's too Jackie ?

Just reminds me of Year 2000 by Pulp which is w song I LOVE

BUT....

It never suited her.

And her house was very small.

ComtesseDeSpair · 20/08/2018 21:37

Dated and was very popular in its day - hence connotations of “common”, as my grandmother would have said (a word which I certainly wouldn’t say!) But it’s surely due a revival soon? We’ve had a surge of 1920s/30s/40s names, only a matter of time until we get to the 60s and 70s.

A colleague recently named her baby Pamela and I thought how nice a name it actually is when you say it Smile

HolyMountain · 20/08/2018 21:38

There’s a couple of songs on the Baby Driver soundtrack about Deborah, it must have been quite ‘in’ at some point.

Not now though, some names won’t make a comeback ( like Gladys for example) and I think Deborah is in with that category, only my opinion of course Smile

daffodillament · 20/08/2018 21:38

shirley and Ivegotbills Yes Yes !!! And Debbie Harry is such a legend. Glad I posted now ! Grin
