DD made a rainbow cake (not at all 'stealth' boast)

She's been talking about it for the whole summer holidays and she finally made one (with the help of our au pair). Both she and the au pair have sworn never to do it again, it's a LONG process, especially when you can only fit two cake tins in the oven at a time. It looks good though.

Mmmm send some over here please. It’s Dds favourite but we buy it at the local cafe. Too lazy to make one. Well done her.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 20/08/2018 18:32

She is very pleased with it. Grin She's 10 and this is the first time she's really got into baking because I don't really bake. She can make brownies from scratch all by herself (can't clean up though) but she did need a fair bit of help from her sous-chef with this.

Looks good.

TeaForTiger · 20/08/2018 18:34

It looks great! Well done to your DD!!

Knittedfairies · 20/08/2018 18:34

Well done!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 20/08/2018 18:37

It's so rare to see something on the internet and then have it actually look as good when it's homemade. She wasn't completely happy with the shade of blue, but I think it's fine.

Hmm. I'm not sure that's right - it doesn't look like a proper one iyswim. Send it to me and I'll check it over to make sure it tastes right.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 20/08/2018 18:42

Milk Grin It's really big, we are handing pieces out to the neighbours as we have no chance of getting through it ourselves. If you could get yourself to South Dublin you would be welcome to some.

I reckon it would work very well as a birthday cake, you would easily get 16 good sized pieces out of it, more if you did thin slices.

The recipe came from the Tesco website, here. We should have had 20cm cake tins but the only ones that I could buy were 24cm so the layers came out a bit thinner.

😂😂

ScrambledSmegs · 20/08/2018 18:46

Impressive! Well done to her. Just be warned, the food colouring does funny things to your, er, insides...

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 20/08/2018 18:56

Oh yes ScrambledSmegs I remember when DS was in nursery and I bought him a Tardis cake to share with his friends. DS (and I assume his friends too) did black poos the next day. Shock

Oh good Lord that looks blinking amazing!!! If she wants to visit me in Cheshire I will happily supply all the ingredients and she can have full use of my kitchen- I will even clean up for her

MrsTommyBanks · 20/08/2018 19:00

I'm impressed.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 20/08/2018 19:02

She wants to make a piñata cake next, like this. Shock

ScrambledSmegs · 20/08/2018 19:49

I suppose she knows there's a Junior GBBO? She should enter! She's very good.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 20/08/2018 19:59

Are the junior bake off contestants allowed to bring their slaves au pairs? Wink

ChipmunksAreMissing · 20/08/2018 20:11

I made one yesterday and today everyone is complaining about blue poop! I can only assume it was the food colouring! Grin

ScrambledSmegs · 20/08/2018 20:14

I suspect not Grin. She could try and smuggle her in under her apron.

PandaG · 20/08/2018 20:15

Looks great!
My DD loves cooking, I delegate most of my baking to her these days. She often cooks the dinner too completely independently, but at 10 she certainly needed me alongside her. It is worth the effort now, to reap the rewards later!

FabulousTomatoes · 20/08/2018 20:19

Next time buy her this.

Took my teen dd about an hour inc cooking times and still impressive!!

Nice cake OP.

I know you were being lighthearted, but, please don't, even in jest refer to your au pair, who is, I hope, your employee, as a slave.

It's too close to the truth for some people's experiences, unfortunately. Since you mentioned you are in Ireland:
