Will i be pregnant forever?

ReggaetonLente · 20/08/2018 12:06

41 weeks today, the size of a house and so uncomfortable.

This is my first and my pregnancy has been awful - not health wise thankfully, but in terms of other stuff I’ve had to cope with. I just want it over, to meet my baby and start our life as a family!

It feels like everyone I’ve ever met keeps messaging me 20 times a day for ‘any news?’ and it makes me feel even more crap when I have to reply that nope nothing has changed!

I’ve had absolutely nothing. No mucus plug, no bloody show, no contractions. I’ve even given up nesting, I just break up the day by eating cake and napping, having nightmares about giving birth to a giant 15lb baby.

Please can someone share their story of having no signs of labour then it all happening quickly?! Or just reassure me that baby HAS to come out soon?

At 41+1 I'm thinking this is probably it for you. Best of luck.

My period-esque pains started at 40+6 with dc1 and I was convinced it was false labour Grin

5down12go · 21/08/2018 21:24

I was booked for induction at 9am on the Saturday morning and I had my first DC at 715 on the Friday evening at 41+6, second DC we had been out shopping all afternoon and I’d been getting crampy pains like you describe, got to hospital at 10pm on the Saturday evening and I had him at 215am on the Sunday morning, 40+1, despite being the size of an elephant and feeling like I had the same gestation time they did eventually make an appearance!!

Good luck and hope they make an appearance soon, I feel for you being pregnant over this summer we’ve jst had

CigarsofthePharoahs · 21/08/2018 22:11

I went to 41 weeks with my first child.
It was a 39 hour labour ending in an assisted delivery.
I hope you have an easier time!

How are you doing, @ReggaetonLente? 🤞

ReggaetonLente · 22/08/2018 20:33

Still contracting on and off, constant backache, and period pain, and I lost my mucus plug this morning. So progress, but slow progress!

No one wishes I was updating this thread with a cute baby pic more than me Grin

Ate a massive pizza today and have napped in and off in between phases of contractions. Bounced on my ball a bit but mainly carb loading and conserving energy!

Google tells me this could go on for days. Is that true?!

It could, but if you've lost your plug and are having fairly regular contractions I would suggest you're well on your way. Time works funny in labour too, in my experience. It's like one minute lasts hours, but then in the blink of an eye actual hours have passed.

MrsMozart · 22/08/2018 21:29

Everything crossed - or mot as the case may be!

Hope babe arrives soon Smile

CakeNinja · 22/08/2018 21:34

Ooh this sounds exciting! I’m not placemarking in the hope of seeing a fluffy new baby AT ALL. No way. Not me 🤭
Good luck Flowers

kirta · 22/08/2018 21:49

Ooh! This is EXCITING!

SBDB · 22/08/2018 22:27

Hope all is going really well Flowers

picklemepopcorn · 22/08/2018 22:43

Perhaps you identify as an elephant or a whale. That would explain a very long pregnancy.

Seriously, hope all is going well OP!

ReggaetonLente · 22/08/2018 22:46

I have gained 4 stone this pregnancy like a champ. Might be easier to identify as an elephant than try and shift this weight afterwards.

All good thank you everyone, I appreciate your well wishes! Currently floating in a nice warm bath filled with lavender oil, timing my contractions and trying to soothe my achey back. Onwards and upwards!

Come on Reggae you can do it!!

LittleBirdBlues · 22/08/2018 22:50

I went overdue by 11 days and my son was born three weeks ago. It is SO much easier now he's out!

I feel your pain and very glad to hear things have started happening!

FourForYouGlenCoco · 22/08/2018 22:51

My third baby I was in slow labour for well over 24 hours, totally random and sporadic and painful right from the start. Then I told DH i felt a bit pushy and 20 minutes later gave birth on the floor Shock it might be fast for you once it properly ramps up! Good luck OP!

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 22/08/2018 22:53

Pesky 😂

SinkGirl · 22/08/2018 22:55

Good luck OP! I had an emergency section before any signs of labour so can’t help there but I empathise with being enormous. I had twins almost two years ago, I was 35+1 when I had them but I was absolutely humoungous. I had no idea a bump could be so ridiculously enormous. It was hideous

It will all be over soon. Hang in there Flowers

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 22/08/2018 22:55

41+6 here. He's a Leo, 2 hours later, he'd have been a Virgo. Typical Leo laziness! 😂

SinkGirl · 22/08/2018 22:56

(And would you believe I sometimes now miss my bump? I can’t believe it either but it’s true!)

WhatAnAbsolutePenis · 22/08/2018 22:57

Good luck OP, yeah this could go on for a while, but it might mean the actual labour is relatively quick.
Either way it's better than an induction.

You can do it!

Catheroooo · 22/08/2018 22:58

YES! God I remember how you are feeling well! I was due 11th December and gave birth 22nd. Everyone asking... I got more and more anxious as I desperately wanted to avoid Christmas...

I had NO SIGNS! I walked lots, drank raspberry leaf tea, ate curries. I googled how long had someone gone overdue (it was something like months!!) And was convinced I would break the record. I had two failed sweeps and cried after both as was told the cervix was closed. Booked my induction which made me sad as I wanted a natural birth but as I say was desperate to avoid Christmas. BUT the day after the second failed sweep I went into labour.

It is awful and everyone says enjoy the rest, and you think... bollocks to you, but it is so very true. I wish I relished those cake eating, snoozy early days of may leave, because a (albeit mostly wonderful) shit storm is about to go off in your life!!!

It'll be fine, baby will truly arrive when it's ready so kick bavk and enjoy. I know you want, but in 8 months time you'll be sitting on mumsnet replying to a heavily pregnant woman who is fed up with exactly the same things I've said. ;)
Good luck, things are about to get crazy!

DrWhy · 22/08/2018 23:02

Good luck, I hope the bath helps. I was 6 days overdue. I had a sweep at +5 and the midwife said I was well on the way, I really didn’t think anything was happening, went out for a colleagues leaving fonthat evening, Woke at 8am with period pains and sent DH off to work, by 11am I’d called him to come home and by lunchtime we’d called the hospital to let them know that things were happening. I got in the bath about 4ish, when I got out, mucus plug went and things properly ramped up. Headed in to the midwife unit, water went about 6.30 just as the midwife came in to see me. DS was born just after 9pm. Not so quick it was traumatic but not ages either. I hope the bath has the same effect for you as it did for me.

ReggaetonLente · 22/08/2018 23:04

Oh me too DrWhy!

How was your night OP? I hope you either got a decent sleep or you're well underway.

ReggaetonLente · 23/08/2018 10:22

I got a few hours. Contractions were moderate and every 15 mins, but they slowed about 5am. Frustrating but i suppose at least I could sleep.

I also had MORE mucus plug come out. That was a surprise. Does this mean i’m definitely dilating?
