I love my shampoo bar! Recommend me more! 😁

So after my last shunt surgery I could not wash my hair for 11 days!

So I treated myself! And went to lush for the very first time to get a much heard (read via mumsnet!) Shampoo bar!

A yellow citrus one and I love it! It's now 6 weeks down the line and it's still going strong! Hair wash at least every other day If not daily!

Easy to travel with, and saves on plastic! (DH loves this fact as he is a mad recycler!)

So I have converted my family and they are using up what shampoo and conditioners we have and i was about to go shopping to Lush to get another bar or 2 😁 But wondered if anywhere else did better ones? Am I selling my new found love short by just buying from lush?😂

And are the conditioner bars just as good?

Tell me or show me wise mumsnetters!! Thanks

Can't answer the question sorry, but I've just switched to a shampoo bar and finding that my brush bristles are getting coated with a white substance. And the back of my head still feels a bit greasy.
Is it just me?

TheClitterati · 18/08/2018 19:34

I started on the same Lush one as you. I've since tried many others - none are as good as Lush. All the indi & "natural" ones I tried left my hair like straw and I had to stop using them. Which is a real shame.

Currently on the coconut Lush one.

WorryingWombat · 18/08/2018 19:38

I have not found any issues while using the bar and I have no problems with greasy hair! Which is amazing as I really do have hair that got greasy quickly before

Ooooooh the coconut one sounds lovely! That might be my next one! If in my store.

Highly recommend Funky Soap. Their lovely all natural shampoo bars have completely rescued my hair and scalp. Their sea kelp and rhassoul mud shampoo bar smells lovely and leaves my hair soft and clean and bouncy. I don't need conditioner anymore. The oiliness and the sore scalp have gone.

QueenOfCatan · 18/08/2018 19:45

I use the same one as you! I've used it around 30 times and it is still faring well!

I have used other lush ones in the past too but it was a while ago!

Missm00 · 18/08/2018 19:48

I’ve just switched to a shampoo bar too, I’m using a friendly soap one. As I didn’t like how high the concentration of sls is in the lush ones.
As I live in a hard water area I’m having to use an apple cider rinse too.

RandomMess · 18/08/2018 19:49

Is Funky Soap SLS and Paraban free?

AQuestionofIntent · 18/08/2018 19:55

I’m also hooked. Have the pink one.

I’m now on their deodorant bars too! Work brilliantly, better for skin, and no plastic packaging!

bananamonkey · 18/08/2018 20:23

Has anyone found a good conditioner bar? I bought a lush one but it’s really hard to massage into your hair and does not detangle at all?

Cleanerswin · 18/08/2018 20:44

A long time ago my shampoo bar ran out. I had no money so started using dove soap bar (50p). It's great and I still use it :)

dobbythedoggy · 18/08/2018 20:56

yesbebe sell loads of lovely reuseable bits, some of the shampoo bars look amazing.

StorminaTCut · 18/08/2018 20:59

ABitCrapper Are you wetting your hands, lathering the soap and then putting the suds on your hair from your hands?

Or are you putting the bar on your hair?

Firgoodnesssake · 18/08/2018 21:27

Probably a silly question, but how do u store the shampoo bar between washes?

MsPavlichenko · 18/08/2018 21:29

Lush ones come in a tin with a lid. Great to travel with!

ABitCrapper · 18/08/2018 21:37

Stormina I'm lathering up in my hands then using the lather. It's a castor oil soap. It's been about 3 weeks now since I swapped from a standard shampoo.

EmpressOfSpartacus · 18/08/2018 21:43

I use shampoo bars & soaps from www.wild-sage.co.uk/. Palm oil / parabens / SLS free & my hair & skin seem happy.

Chelonia · 18/08/2018 21:53

Try www.ethiquebeauty.com amazing quality shampoo and conditioner bars made in New Zealand WITHOUT nasty palm oil - which Lush contains despite the way they try to promote themselves as eco warriors. Don't even get me started on the fact that Lush pulled funding out of some wildlife rescue/conservation research places recently as the centres were also supported by (major UK highly respected with highest standards of animal welfare) Zoos to train their animal carers in the best possible welfare for the rescued wildlife. Major teenager-level angsty unable-to-see-woods-for-trees there despite happily still using the palm oil that puts these animals into rescue centres to start with.....Confused
I avoid.

mikado1 · 18/08/2018 21:54

Do they go all gooey and soft?

ChatNicknameAlreadyInUse · 18/08/2018 21:58

My favourite lush one is 'Honey I washed my hair' Can't get enough of the smell it's amazing! So good for sore scalps as well.

Jozxyqk · 18/08/2018 21:59

I used to use shampoo bars from soapnuts.co.uk when I had long hair. I really liked them - but beware, soapnut products really sting if you get it in your eyes, not ideal for young kids! It's a good range if you are vegan or want an SLS /paraben free product.

FlaviaAlbia · 18/08/2018 22:01

@EmpressOfSpartacus I bought the shampoo bar from Wild Sage on your recommendation and I love it! It smells incredible and keeps my hair nice and fresh between washes so thank you Smile

WorryingWombat · 18/08/2018 22:01

Thank you all so much! 😁

I am looking in to each suggestion, a heads up though I just check funky soap and they are on holiday and closed for orders till end of Aug

@firgoodnessake you can buy little metal tins from lush for around £2.50 currently mine is in a little old Tupperware box works really well

As for is they go mushy, mine has not, after use I rinse it and just dab with a face cloth or towel to get rid of any water and keep it in my Tupperware box

EmpressOfSpartacus · 18/08/2018 22:10

You're welcome Flavia 😀.

I've got a bunch of their soaps in my bathroom - shampoo, charcoal by the sink, & cinnamon & shea butter in the shower at the moment. I'm working through their list Grin.

FannyAdmin · 18/08/2018 22:19

bananamonkey, one of the salespeople in Lush told me to put the conditioner bar in the bottom of the bath or shower for a couple of minutes before rubbing it in your hands - this warms it up a little, so that enough comes off the bar when you rub it in your hands.

RandomMess · 18/08/2018 22:21

I got soap dishes for 50p each from Bodycare no mushy bars here!
