How fast can you get the shits?!

So, if the culprit for your shits is what you've eaten, can it take effect within 30 minutes??!!

I have had from pate

RadioDorothy · 17/08/2018 19:45

Yeah, happens to me a lot with IBS. What did you eat?

WhoWants2Know · 17/08/2018 19:49

Yep, I've been there.

meladeso · 17/08/2018 19:54

Pizza, but no IBS

meladeso · 17/08/2018 19:54

So seems like food poisoning but too quick for that to be possible?

OP posts:
DaisyChainsForever · 17/08/2018 19:58

I've had it with mayonnaise before, about 45 minutes after eating it.

Tartyflette · 17/08/2018 19:58

No IBS but dome things can go through me at warp speed, it seems. Certainly within abut 90 minutes. But usually it's a one-off, not food poisoning, possibly just something that has disagreed with me.
or if I've just eaten too much

Tartyflette · 17/08/2018 19:58

..some things... fat fingers.

DownAtFraggleRock · 17/08/2018 19:59

Yep - Avocado will do that to me within half an hour

RussellHobb · 17/08/2018 20:00

I had a tuna and tomato sandwich for lunch once and by 2pm it was horrific.

Happyhippy45 · 17/08/2018 20:02

Dh is like a canary in a coal mine. He can have a reaction to dodgy food within a short space of time, less than an hour.
Though people after blame the last thing they ate but it could have been something they ate up to 3 days ago.
Hope the shits "pass" quickly. Flowers

meladeso · 17/08/2018 20:02

Weird! It was a massive calzone to be fair Grin

OP posts:
meladeso · 17/08/2018 20:02

It was painful so I assumed food poisoning

Yes.

As I discovered at my first loves’ big family Christmas dinner....

didn’t get invited back after that

OuchLegoHurts · 17/08/2018 20:09

I got it twice from Pizza on holidays from the same restaurant. It took exactly 15 mins both times and my friend who has Coeliac disease says the way I described it sounded exactly like her symptoms so I presume it was a severe reaction to the dough.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 17/08/2018 20:12

Lactose does that to me. Too much dairy?

RadioDorothy · 17/08/2018 20:17

Hmm yeah if it was huge it could be the dough. If it was food poisoning you'd feel pretty ill and have several episodes of it - it it was just the once and you feel fine, it's probably a one off.

I had a major reaction to a particular type of French bread once. Virtually before I'd finished eating it. Weird.

ginandnappies · 17/08/2018 20:17

I ate a Chinese once, within an hour I was stuck on the toilet for about 8 hours.

ImAGoofyGoober · 17/08/2018 20:18

Yes definitely within 30 minutes. I get it often so assume I must be intolerant to something.

amusedbush · 17/08/2018 20:19

Pizza always... ahem... clears me out. Within an hour of eating Dominos I will be in the bathroom.

MervynBunter · 17/08/2018 20:21

If it was shellfish, I'd say less than 30 minutes!

BluthsFrozenBananas · 17/08/2018 20:23

I had this happen a few times, usually from a large amount of wheat based food eaten too fast. I’m not generally gluten intolerant but my body obviously has a limit and if I exceed it I’m in trouble.

hidinginthenightgarden · 17/08/2018 20:24

Yep DH does with hot sauce. Within 30 mins he is on the loo and yet never learns!

TTEA · 17/08/2018 20:30

Anxiety does it to me within 15/20
minutes...

meladeso · 19/08/2018 14:50

Sounds like the dough is the culprit. Thank you everyone for the replies.
