Just that really. My mobile is dead and I’m considering switching providers. Cheers!

Giff gaff, but not actually a contract. I'd utterly recommend them.
You buy whatever goodybag suits your needs per month.

user1471459936 · 16/08/2018 19:55

Another GiffGaff here. Thoroughly recommend.

TarquinGyrfalcon · 16/08/2018 20:00

GiffGaff - they are fab, I have change my goody bag each month depending on whether I am home or away, DH hardly uses anything so he is on GiffGaff PAYG

TooMinty · 16/08/2018 20:04

O2 and meh. Neither good nor bad. I have heard EE are rubbish though.

OddestSock · 16/08/2018 20:07

O2. I’ve been with them for about 15 years & never had a problem. I think they tend to be more expensive than the other providers though, so now I buy a refurbished phone through music magpie & then get a sim only deal. I pay £20 a month for unlimited texts, calls & 20gig of data (I don’t need this much...)

Anjelika · 16/08/2018 20:07

Another vote for GiffGaff. I pay £7.50 a month and never get anywhere near the limits for that plan.

Pippylou · 16/08/2018 20:09

Oh, I've just swapped to Giff Gaff, I didn't realise you could change each month, that'll be good. Been really easy to sort out. You can get a referral off someone else too if you have friends with them.

IDontIdentifyAsAWomanIAmAWoman · 16/08/2018 20:11

I switched to ID payg from Carphone warehouse. It's 5 pounds a month and in the three months I've had it, I've not run out of data. There's also an easy to use app to track your bills etc

tissuesosoft · 16/08/2018 20:11

O2 have been great. Avoid Voda-con

LilyandRose · 16/08/2018 20:12

TooMinty ... EE have a good deal. What have you heard - is it customer service, tech stuff or generally? Was surprised to read they increase contract prices each March in line with rpi.

Have had GiffGaff before but we live in area with really poor reception and really O2 is best (which I get via Tesco atm), Vodafone not great and have heard EE are okay.

Both giff gaff and tesco use the 02 network.

Furrycushion · 16/08/2018 20:14

Giffgaff. It uses the O2 network (as does Tesco).

@Pippylou - GiffGaff will email you before your next goody bag renewal and tell you which goody bag they recommend based on your current usage.

TheSpottedZebra · 16/08/2018 20:19

I can give you a giff gaff link if you don't have one Grin You'd get £10 and if get 5, iirc - or maybe the other other way round.

I do have a spot spot for tesco mobile too. When my dad died and I was cancelling contracts contracts and things, they were BY FAR the nicest, easiest, most compassionate people to deal with. And if I ever change providers it will be to them.

LilyandRose · 16/08/2018 20:21

Yes, I’ve just googled so Giff Gaff uses 02. Odd. Thing is ... I need a new phone so monthly plan suits. Will have look at Giff Gaff now.

BrazzleDazzleDay · 16/08/2018 20:22

Tesco for me. A third/quarter of the price of other companies with the same plan. EE are always down here, vodafone has no signal most places so sco on the o2 networks best here.

tomatosoup1 · 16/08/2018 20:39

Smarty (sim only)

LilyandRose · 16/08/2018 20:42

Brazzle, Tesco have been great for me but can get phone I want with more data for £200 less over 24 mths via EE. However, alarmed at reading about EE having frequent downtime and getting poor reviews. GiffGaff charging 18% apr on the handset! Eek!

Try carphone warehouse. They do deals cheaper than going direct to o2

LilyandRose · 16/08/2018 23:14

Will definitely look at Carphone Warehouse, thanks!

Is anyone with Sky Mobile? They also use O2 and prices seem pretty competitive.

EE apparently have the best netork coverage in UK but the plan I priced is their ‘essential’ plan with slower speeds. Maybe that would still be okay given our home bb is with them which gives me 5gb free mobile data pm, however, the reviews online are dreadful.

Aaaargh.

TooMinty · 17/08/2018 08:57

EE have very poor customer service according to my friends who have used them. I don't think network coverage is great in my area but am in Scotland, you'd need to check out reviews where you live.

Riddo · 17/08/2018 09:07

Giff Gaff are great!

Ginorchoc · 17/08/2018 09:09

O2 me and Tesco (02) for daughter, Tesco Cap it so she doesn't go over her allowance.

BarbaraofSevillle · 17/08/2018 09:10

Look at Plusnet, they have a wide variety of plans that are good value and use the EE network. Also contract is 30 day only, so you're not tied in if you find the coverage doesn't work for you.

Will almost always work out cheaper to buy your phone separately. I always buy my own phone and assume it will last 2 years and be worth nothing after that time, but it usually lasts more like 2.5 - 3 years and I can usually get £30-50 for it on ebay after that time (starting with a phone costing £150-200). Look at the moneysavingexpert advice about putting it on a 0% credit card if you can't stump up the whole cost in one go.
