Just that really. My mobile is dead and I’m considering switching providers. Cheers!

I'm not even with Vodafone anymore and still have complaints with them. They cannot give me a breakdown of the final charge as they say it's done by the computer and because I've left I no longer have access to my account to view the bill. So they charged me a fee after I had no access and can't give me a breakdown. They want to refund me £3.13 but can't tell me why or how they've decided on that. They don't appreciate that that the money isn't really the point. I'm currently just ignoring them but have said I'm reporting the breach to the ombudsman. I really can't be bothered with it anymore to be honest though.

GladAllOver · 17/08/2018 10:37

You and me both. I only had a PAYG sim with them, but without any permission from me they set up a direct debit on my account. When I cancelled it at the bank, Vodafone set a debt chaser onto me.

5000KallaxHoles · 17/08/2018 10:45

I've been on Tesco mobile a fair few years - contract's up in a few days though and I'm toying with jumping... don't like the fact they're trying to sneak everything onto 36 month contracts now.

I was looking at EE for their obscene amount of data they seem to throw at you (I've been on Orange in the past and was happy enough with them - I'm a bit of a phone network tart).

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/08/2018 10:47

Unfortunately DS still has a year to run with them though it took 3 months for them to actually set up his phone in the first place. At one point they managed to switch my own phone to his iPhone so he finally got service whilst I lost mine. And his piece of shite Apple phone is playing up. So no Apple or Vodafone ever again in this house.

Gift gaff can be great.

But have a check of the small print on that “unlimited data” bundle if you use a lot of data. They cap data speeds in peak hours (which they define as 8am to midnight) after a certain level of usage.

It’s a fantastic deal if it fits your needs, but if the contract was really as good as it looks then the entire country would be on giffgaff at 7.50 a month.

Happyhippy45 · 17/08/2018 11:01

Another giffgaff user. I'd highly recommend. I pay £5 a month for my "goody bag" and rarely run out as all calls and texts to giffgaff users are free......my dh and DS are on giffgaff and they're the only people I really communicate with
Also love that when you switch over to them they tell you how you can donate the remaining balance from old provider to charity. Genius idea.

LilyandRose · 17/08/2018 19:29

Thanks all. Have gone with Mobile Phones Direct. Got a good deal I think but I do agree that for sim pricing, you can’t beat GiffGaff.

I love EE .. brilliant customer service ... Vodafone are awful in my experience

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/08/2018 19:52

Congrats OP, happy new phone! what did you go for?

LilyandRose · 17/08/2018 21:49

Thanks Wax ... the Samsung S9. Looked at them and others in store today just to be sure before I ordered. Love a new toy! Although may well have lost everything when old phone died (contacts, photos) so am pretty gutted about that. Have a nasty feeling I didn’t have it syncing with my google account -sob.

Can't go wrong with a samsung :) Ds has the S8 upgraded from the S6 and DH and I both have/had the 7, I really wasn't sure whether to go for the 9 or for the Huawei P20 Pro this time as there wasn't much to pick between them. I went for the Huawei just to give the camera a try out/ I'm really happy with it but I'm sure I would have been equally as happy with the 9. Have you tried everything to get the old one going again? I managed to just connect my two phones and everything transferred over smooth as silk.

LilyandRose · 17/08/2018 23:17

Wax, I’m a Samsung girl, this is an upgrade from S7 which has been a great phone. Simply cannot get old one up and running - have done all the troubleshooting with Tesco and took it to local mobile shop - he tested it and it’s not taking any charge. O2 told me that if I bring the old sim to a store, they may be able to do a sim transfer. To transfer between phones, I think both have to be switched on.

OP posts:
llangennith · 17/08/2018 23:21

O2 online. All extended family were with them from the start and I'm the only one who's never left. They've all tried the other providers but now all returned to O2 online.

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/08/2018 23:23

Depends on what is saved to the sim and what's saved to the phone but worth a try, I suspect all you'll get is your contacts and maybe old texts though. Photos and the like are probably saved to your phone :(

Have you tried an induction charger in case it's just the charging point? Or leaving it attached to the charger for a long time in case it just suddenly springs to life?

I'm just sitting here getting old phones reset and ready to sell.

9amTrain · 17/08/2018 23:24

Giffgaff. Definitely recommend!

BarbaraofSevillle · 18/08/2018 07:26

I don't think it's anything to do with whether or not Giff Gaff are any good as to whether more people are or are not with them. Most people mindlessly drift towards the big brands and stick with them.

Most people have never switched their gas and electricity. Most people think Heinz are best for beans and soup. Most people are fooled by 'free' phones and never do the maths to work out that £600 for a phone plus £7.50 a month for the phone service is cheaper over 2 years than paying £35 a month all in, including the phone. Or people can't or don't like paying for the phone all in one go.

MyGuideJools · 18/08/2018 08:27

I've always had EE, previously Orange.
Never had a problem with them, have never had to call customer service.
Every time I'm due an upgrade I just go into an EE store, it's all sorted very smoothly.
I wouldn't recommend Vodafone, lots of family members have had nightmares with them.

MyGuideJools · 18/08/2018 08:28

I'm also a Samsung fan

5000KallaxHoles · 18/08/2018 09:09

If your S7 is setup the same way mine is - it'll have auto-backed up to Samsung Cloud and you might not have lost as much as you think you have.

I've not been particularly impressed by my S7 (and I've had endless previous Samsungs before that) which is one reason I'm toying with swapping to the P20 Pro next month. S7 just seems to have slowed down, gone shite on the battery life and locked up loads really really early in its lifespan (I tend to expect phones to go a little "elderly" before I upgrade them but this has been acting up for months). Mine locked up completely last week but I managed to reset it and rescue all the photos of the kids I have on it.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/08/2018 09:14

I almost just kept my S7 as it was still working beautifully. We've added a 64gb SIM to DH's and he has over 5000 songs on his now too.

I'm liking the P20 pro too though. I've had it since June but still to make use of the full functionality of the camera which is mainly why I went for it.

SureIusedtobetaller · 18/08/2018 09:14

With Vodaphone, wouldn’t bother again.
Coverage is rubbish and really faffy.
I was with O2 for years and never had problems at all.
EE is best coverage but their customer service has been crap- daughter is with them.

HolidayModeMum · 18/08/2018 09:18

Sim only deal with Talk Mobile. I bought an Oukitel phone for £100 which does more than I need. I pay £7.50 a month for Calls, texts and 4G if data.

MonsteraDeliciosa · 18/08/2018 09:25

Am I the only person on Virgin? Grin

Went with them years ago as they had the cheapest SIM only deals. They weren't good, with often rude customer service. I never got around to switching. However now they've upped their game and CS are really good when I call.

I'd actually recommend them now for price and service.

MonsteraDeliciosa · 18/08/2018 09:26

Tesco are also good. Have them for DDs phone.

Brixhambelle1 · 18/08/2018 09:28

If you travel a lot then I find 3 with their “ at home “ service n 71 countries really useful, it doesn’t obviously cover them all but the list is still growing and it’s saved me a fortune over the years. 3 is also good in rural areas.
