Just that really. My mobile is dead and I’m considering switching providers. Cheers!

I've just looked at the Giff gaff site and seen for the same price as I'm paying 02 I can get much more data, it says you need an unlocked phone - how would you know if your phone is unlocked? I bought mine outright from 02 last year.

I have been with EE for years and am really happy with them. Best 4G coverage.

Groomer · 17/08/2018 09:14

Check out Sky if you have them for TV etc. SIM only deals are fantastic. I was really happy with offer last year and have just renewed and it's even cheaper! Excellent customer service too.

MongerTruffle · 17/08/2018 09:17

Will definitely look at Carphone Warehouse, thanks!
Look at mobiles.co.uk. Their deals are even cheaper than Carphone Warehouse and they are part of the same company (Dixons Carphone).

Plusnet and would recommend, cheap packages, great signal (on EE network) and have always had great customer service

LilyandRose · 17/08/2018 09:26

Groomer, don’t have tv with Sky but they’re working out about the cheapest for 24 mth plan for phone and data etc. Their phone cost is over £100 less than buying direct from Samsung and total contract about £280 less than Tesco (albeit with extra 1gb data).

Think I’ll forget about EE having read all the negative press! However, will shop around a bit more and price sim free handsets.

Thanks all.

I've used pretty much them all from time to time. There are 4 in the house so we get through a lot...

I think they can all be good or shite randomly. Had some issues with EE in the past but son has been with them for 8 years now with no problems at all. I thought Vodafone was better but have had constant issues with them for a number of years so recently switched to EE for a really good deal via a 3rd party. Other DS still with Vodafone but I will be moving him as soon as his contact ends. DH currently with Tesco and it's fine but coverage not as good and they don't have as good deals.

I currently have a Huawei p20 Pro with 30gb data via mobiles direct (I think) and it's about the £30 mark.

LilyandRose · 17/08/2018 09:32

Anyone heard of Mobile Phones Direct? If so, what are they like? They have cheapest prices by far.

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/08/2018 09:36

I've definitely used them either this time or before. I wouldn't take a contract where you have to apply for a redemption in order to get the discount as that's a faff and honestly you just won't do it. Otherwise, you wouldn't know that you've not gone direct as once you get your phone, you are then just with whoever the service provider is.

bionicnemonic · 17/08/2018 09:39

Oh and I thought I was the only one who say GiffGaff!

LilyandRose · 17/08/2018 09:39

Thanks Wax. Have had a quick google and they get loads of reviews. Nah, wouldn’t go for a cashback offer due to the faff ... I’d forget! Provided transferring my number is as easy as they say - and £429 cheaper than Tesco! Can’t understand why it’s the same monthly price for 10gb data as for 4gb ... hey ho!

I've recently changed from EE to O2 and noticed the signal is significantly worse with O2, doesn't make much difference unless you use your phone a lot to make calls which I do as its dipping in and out a lot of the time. £10 a month cheaper than the EE contract was though 🤷🏻‍♀️

fussychica · 17/08/2018 09:45

Another Giffgaff user here. Our whole family use them. Brilliant.

cheaperthebetter · 17/08/2018 09:47

I'm with 3 pay and it has been all good with them , I've been with them for 5 years now

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/08/2018 09:47

I moved my number from Vodafone to EE and it was seamless. Also easily unlocked my old phone with Vodafone. It was the only transaction they've got right in years.

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/08/2018 09:48

And that was with using a 3rd party to so the contract through.

donetodeath · 17/08/2018 09:50

We’re a sky house here, we do have the tv package so our monthly phone bill is £54 for iPhone 7 with 1gb and iPhone se with 5gb, unlimited calls and txts for both. What I really like is that if the data isn’t used it’s not lost, you carry it over to the following month and can use it as you need it. Service and signal had always been fine

sashh · 17/08/2018 09:51

I'm with EE, I have found their service fine.

I've been with them a few years and they give you a loyalty bonus so for a sim only contract I pay under £11 a month, I can't remember the exact amount and I have unlimited calls and texts and some huge amount of data I never use.

JoyceDivision · 17/08/2018 09:52

We are a on Tesco, been with them a few years, never had any issues and customer service is good. Have all contracts capped and they've been good explaining how we can add on to contracts.

SnailMailFan · 17/08/2018 09:56

We all use giff gaff, and find them brilliant. I haven’t done it, but you can buy phones from them too.

flirtygirl · 17/08/2018 09:58

Id mobile and plusnet are cheaper than giff gaff with more data. I have both. Coverage is great in my area, they use ee and 3 networks.

Plusnet is a little better but changing tariffs with them is a pain.

flirtygirl · 17/08/2018 09:58

Compare on uswitch sim only.

GladAllOver · 17/08/2018 10:10

EE has the best 4G network coverage, by official figures.
For technical reasons, although giffgaff uses the O2 network they don't have access to some parts of it.
Vodafone has appalling customer service. If you have a problem with them, good luck with getting it sorted.

BarbaraofSevillle · 17/08/2018 10:22

Plusnet have offers that change weekly, so if there's nothing that suits now, check next week.

I signed up a a few weeks ago and got 1.5 Gb data, 1000 minutes and 1000 texts for £6 a month.

However, I found out that the data wasn't quite enough, so have now changed to 2.5 Gb data, same texts and minutes for £7 a month, although one of these is now unlimited, but I can't remember which, but 1000 of either is far more than I need anyway.

Changing tariff was easy, although surprised I had to phone up rather than do it online, but it was all fine.
