I need some inspiration - would anyone like to show me their living room?

I’m sitting here staring at my boring magnolia walls wondering what I can do to jazz things up a bit. I’m on a tight budget so no point flicking through the glossy magazines, I’m interested in ordinary people & ordinary homes.
TIA.

Here you are. It’s prob not very inspiring! There are two leather and wood sofas too , but I’m sat on one of them and couldn’t be arsed to move to take a better photo!

Here you go. Ignore TV, should have switched off! I think bright matte white always gives a bit of a zing that magnolia doesn’t - magnolia can look uninspired and a bit “corporate hotel”. Large, bright, focal artworks, colourful cushions, big rug.

Totally about your personal style, though. I think that’s the best way to style a room - let your personality and preferences show through.

It's not the tidiest and I don't recommend black floor boards not easy to clean

Thanks Echo it hasn't dated too bad either as it's been like this minus the tipee for like 7 years.
We used several types of wall paper and then new and very old furniture so the room doesn't feel too forced.
But the sofa has had it now after our son and also life in general.
I would say to always think about texture!

Screamqueenz · 14/08/2018 18:46

Yes, I'd love to but the Wi-Fi in my Elizabethan house isn't playing!
To be fair our house is marmite at best...

Welshcake77 · 14/08/2018 18:53

We have just moved house and so it’s all freshly decorated, used to have light grey walls so this is a complete change!

Haha blinking woman it's a cushion... But I do have 3 cats

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 14/08/2018 19:07

Do you have a pic OP? What kind of floors do you have - carpet, wood/laminate etc? Much natural light? Fireplace/chimney breast?

My house is very neutral throughout but I'm slowly injecting colour. The living room is now teal Grin The white ceiling and oak floor balance it out. My kitchen is white, wood and green (plants) with the odd colourful flourish!

Pinterest is good for inspiration. Painting the walls a deeper shade makes a tremendous difference.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 14/08/2018 19:09

I like your ceiling light @Welshcake77!

Invisimamma · 14/08/2018 19:11

I love the idea of teal, some gorgeous rooms on here.

3littlemonkeys82 · 14/08/2018 19:19

Ours was very magnolia, we've added some green to break it up and now I'm considering adding some mustard yellow too (maybe). If your budgets tight it's worth considering a accent colour rather than a whole re decorate.

Thanks for the compliment Echo. The fire isn't retro, it's an original. This is because our plumber hates condensing boilers and refuses to fit them. He can service this one in 15 minutes and repair it in an hour. The decor is DW's, because it was her turn. What you can't see are the two cluttered bookcases, the TV, the printer and a rat's nest of cables
