How much do you spend on yourself?

unadventuretime · 14/08/2018 15:16

Just that really.

So how much do you spend on yourself each month? Including things like:

  • hobbies
  • socialising
  • hair and beauty
  • clothes
  • holidays without your family (ie not family holidays)
  • your personal mobile phone
  • random treats just for you
  • presents for people from you alone (ie not presents for your DC's friends etc)
  • books

My budget is £60/month. This seems like a lot to me Blush. I do manage to spend it though Blush.

My budget is about the same as yours op, but I don’t think it’s a lot and with all the stuff you’ve listed i don’t understand how you did either

unadventuretime · 14/08/2018 17:11

I think it seems like a lot to me because I have has many years of being very skint. When you've had to choose between food and bus fare (& gone through winters without heating) having £60/month to spend on anything you want feels weird. It's nearly a quarter of JSA for example! A lot of the stuff I listed is things I don't really ever spend money on but I know other people do. Likewise most people probably don't spend as much as I do on art materials (my hobby, though I sell some of my work it doesn't really count as a job yet). I assumed if people are on a similar budget to me they'd maybe put that £30 towards other stuff Smile

  • hobbies - £0 I don't have any Blush
  • socialising - £100
  • hair and beauty £50
  • clothes - £50
  • holidays without your family - too adhoc to say
  • your personal mobile phone - £45
  • random treats just for you - £30
  • presents for people from you alone - too adhoc
  • books - £5 on the kindle

I would hardly ever go away without my family but early next year I'm going away with friends and that will probably be £500 for the weekend.

My friends and I only do 'significant birthdays' these days - I would usually spend - £30-£50.

kaytee87 · 14/08/2018 17:18

Actually hair & beauty is £100 roughly

namechange2pointoh · 14/08/2018 17:30
  • hobbies varies but it can be well up to £500 if it’s an away trip and I take DD17
  • socialising not something I ever do
  • hair and beauty £5/£10 one box hair dye every 6 weeks
  • clothes maybe £50, sometimes more, sometimes less. I haven’t bought any clothes in July/August but I spent over £150 in june
  • holidays without your family (ie not family holidays) this ties in with my hobby as it’s no a family holiday but travelling for hobby
  • your personal mobile phone £85
  • random treats just for you usually nothing
  • presents for people from you alone (ie not presents for your DC's friends etc) not something I do really
  • books i never buy book as my DM is a charity shop fiend and presents with books on a —fartoo— regular basis
Holymolynowayimagreeingwiththa · 14/08/2018 17:30

More than I thought now I've worked it out.

Socializing - £35 a month
Clothes - £25 a month
Toiletries / make up - £10 a month
Hair - £5 a month
Wine - £12 a month
Take aways - £10 a month
Mobile phone - £15 a month
So about £112 a month. I thought it was more like £40 until I broke it down. I spend more than this on myself but the other costs are for things that my DH and or DC also enjoy.

BlairWaldorfsHeadband · 14/08/2018 17:34

£40 a month phone, but that’s a contract that’s about to stop

£20 a month shellac polish
£40 a month makeup
£60 every other month on my hair so half of that per month

Clothes I tend to buy in spurts rather than every month.

serbska · 14/08/2018 17:34

Between £1k and £1.7k on a bad month

RedPandaMama · 14/08/2018 17:40

Always love these sorts of threads. Actually going to quickly look through my bank account to see...

Ok so:-
£30 a month (average) hobbies - spend quite a bit on books and crochet stuff, but it tends to be once every few months so last month £50 but nothing for 9 weeks before that.
£10 a month on hair/beauty. Hair nails etc nothing, cut my hair myself, wear £1 false nails from Primark for special occasions and shape/paint them myself so maybe £5 a year. Don't dye my hair and I just use any cheap shampoo, I'm quite lucky as my hair is quite 'nice' (not great, but fine) naturally. Occasionally buy some makeup but just use Revlon/Soap and Glory stuff so not expensive.
£8 a month on charity donations - I donate small amounts to Alder Hey, Shelter and Oxfam.
£40 a month clothes - totally unnecessary to be honest as I'm much fatter than I want to be since having DD and need to stop buying stuff.
£40 a month eating/drinking out - again unnecessary. Need to stop eating out as much.
£10 a month other - e.g. cinema, video games etc.
£30 a month - phone

BitchQueen90 · 14/08/2018 17:42

£30 on eyelashes
£40 facial
£20 nails
£25 eyebrows
£30 phone contract. Those are all monthly.

Have about 1 night socialising per month, usually a few drinks and a takeaway, £40 ish. I very rarely go out drinking.

Every 2 months I spend £85 on my hair.

Books I buy sporadically. Hardly ever buy clothes for myself, probably only about 6 items a year. Make-up I just buy when I run out.

Go on 2/3 child free weekends away a year.

LardLizard · 14/08/2018 17:47

Not enough judging by this thread

creepingbuttercupdrivesmemad · 14/08/2018 17:53

£100 entertainment budget (which will often include DCs trips as well)
£50 hair and wax
£18 phone
clothes? I rarely buy, but when I do it's on a 'one in, one out' basis, so that comes out of the replacement budget.
£32 yoga

so very roughly it's £200. Which is 10% of my take home pay. Humph. Think I need to invest in myself a little more!

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 14/08/2018 18:15

Hmm, monthly nothing.
Annually:
Socialising-0
Hair and beauty- 5-20
Books- 3
Treats- 4ish
Clothes- 10
Hobbies-0
Presents just from me- 0
Holidays without family- 0

So 22-37 per year 😕

rainbowfudgee · 14/08/2018 18:24

My spends per month:
Gym/swim/yoga membership £40
Ebay habit (clothes) £50
Haircut and colour £35 (every 8 weeks it's £70)
Socialising £50 on average

Not too bad...

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 14/08/2018 18:29

£30 on exercise classes, including yoga and Pilates, but I can do as many as I want- usually 9 or 10 a week
Either £5 or £7.50 a month on phone
£5 a month on Kindle books
No set amount on clothes, but probably about £30 a month
I do knitting and crochet, but only buy yarn if I’m given gift vouchers. I have a stash, so don’t need to.
Hair cut every few weeks- £35
Occasional coffee or lunch out - probably £5-£10 a month
Have a stash of make up, skin care, but occasionally buy Aldi creams at less than a fiver.

mightbemarkedforever · 14/08/2018 18:36

I've actually also spent £70 on books in the last 4 weeks

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 14/08/2018 18:36

Sometimes a lot.... sometimes very little....

This month.....
Hair cut & colour £70
Massage £48
Phone contract £14
Lingerie (for a naughty weekend away without DCs) £80
Misc clothes (some t shirts, shorts and a jumper) £110

Last month.... just my phone contract

DryHeave · 14/08/2018 18:39

I give myself £200 spends each month, but I never spend the lot so have about £5k of “residue”. Maybe I’ll BLOW IT ALL on... paying off my student loan or adding to my pension?

PopUpAd · 17/08/2018 11:09

I have £200 a month personal spending

£40 Gym membership
£40 shoes/clothes
£10 phone

The rest just seems to fly out of my purse into my teenagers hands for bus fare/socialising

HRTpatch · 17/08/2018 12:54

About £500

IMissGin · 17/08/2018 13:02

Gosh... a lot!

£120 on PT
£25 eyebrows
£75 nails and toes
£50 hair (averaged)
£45 massage
£250 clothes (average)
£150 socialising

PurpleTigerLove · 17/08/2018 13:03
