DH just found this in our bathtubShock It's seriously huge! Sudocrem tub for scale - small tub, but the spider is huge nonetheless!

Hate to inform you we are in the Midlands, not Australia...

Any idea what type of spider this is???

Aranea enormica gigantica teribleroso runawayfastio scorchio bathroomia con flammo.

FlibbertyGiblets · 13/08/2018 23:52

I think.

IllBeAtTheBarIfYouNeedMe · 13/08/2018 23:55

Giant house spider. It’s that time of the year again. Currently have my 12yr old ds cowering in my room as one is in his.

One way to get him off his computer

userxx · 13/08/2018 23:55

That's your average house spider, nothing to worry about. Pop a glass over the top of him and a piece of paper underneath, open the back door and let him go.

ShovingLeopard · 13/08/2018 23:56

We get loads of these. They're not harmful, just pop it outside.

inisfree · 13/08/2018 23:58

A massive one just ran under my bed about 10 mins ago and seems to have disappeared. Do house spiders bite???

gonnabreakmyrustycage · 13/08/2018 23:58

I have killed a few today (not that big). How do we get spiders to leave (and never come back)? I really really hate them and they seem to be everywhere. I hear they don’t like lavender and all sorts of essential oils...

MsOliphant · 14/08/2018 00:04

Horrible to kill them, why do that?

LilMadAgain · 14/08/2018 00:06

gonnabreak I'm not usually a colossal knobhead I assure you but was killing them absolutely necessary?? Did they threaten you with violence or robbery? Poor spiders :(

NCPuffin · 14/08/2018 00:31

It was released into the garden before the cat spotted it.
It's not an average house spider - or at least not in our house! Its legs were about a mm thick and it had an 'articulated' body if that makes sense. Never seen one this big in the UK before - even the ones in Oz were generally smaller!

ZeroFuchsGiven · 14/08/2018 00:34

It's a house spider, nothing more nothing less, they are harmless. gonnabreakmyrustycage you are an arse hole, why would you kill a Spider?

FurryDice · 14/08/2018 00:35

So unnecessary to kill them. Ffs.

Whateverletmepost · 14/08/2018 00:41

Conkers! Put them around the perimeter of a room, spiders hate them for some reason

CookPassBabtridge · 14/08/2018 10:57

That is what a normal house spider looks like, have you not seen them before? They are around aug/sept for mating.

abbsisspartacus · 14/08/2018 10:59

Putting them outside is a slow death for them just whack them and get it over with

PickleSarnie · 14/08/2018 11:05

Killing spiders is really horrid. I leave them be to eat all the flies that I DO want dead.

NoNoCharlieRascal · 14/08/2018 11:09

You need spider homes. As pp said, outside is a death sentence for them. I have a couple of cupboards or nooks where all spiders get rehomed out of the way.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 14/08/2018 11:11

Putting them outside is a slow death for them just whack them and get it over with

Why would you do that though? What is the point or need to killing a spider?

AFistfulofDolores1 · 14/08/2018 11:13

Tegenaria domestica

TitsalinaBumSquash · 14/08/2018 11:19

DH has this one run across his face the other day, it was the size of my palm!

tinstar · 14/08/2018 11:20

Can't believe you've never seen a house spider op. It's not even a particularly huge one if that's only a small tub of sudocrem!

And as to killing them Hmm

YeTalkShiteHen · 14/08/2018 11:23

House spider is the breed name. We’ve had a couple of absolute belters, and I am fucking terrified.

Yes I’m aware it’s irrational, yes I’m aware I’m a massive pussy, and no, I can’t control a physical reaction as part of a phobia.

YeTalkShiteHen · 14/08/2018 11:23

TitsalinaBumSquash holy shit! His face? Nope. Nope, nope. I’d have been in bits.

Whoisalanbrazil · 14/08/2018 11:23

You best get a cat. My cats are indoors so spiders are the biggest catch they'll ever get. They usually spot them before us and pounce.

NarcolepticOuchMouse · 14/08/2018 11:28

I used to be terrified of spiders and I'm still little scared, but I started learning about them. I think the BBC had a doc on them that was really interesting. They're quite amazing creatures. I leave them be because they're fantastic pest controllers. No need to kill them, they're not interested in harming humans, just trying to live their best spider lives.

They might not be pretty but who am I to kill based on looks.
