Madonna, still sexy at sixty???

Aprilsinparis · 12/08/2018 13:38

Just seen that heading (minus the ???) on the front of a Sunday magazine. Is she sexy? What is the meaning of sexy. I think she looks as though, she is trying too hard to look youthful, and failing miserably.

OP posts:
YouKnowWhatIMean · 12/08/2018 13:39

No she's not sexy. And yes I am before anyone asks!

LittleCandle · 12/08/2018 13:41

She was never sexy to begin with.

Movablefeast · 12/08/2018 13:42

Her personality means she is not sexy IMHO.

DameDoom · 12/08/2018 13:43

Overtly sexual - definitely. Sexy - never in a million years.

Rorymum · 12/08/2018 13:44

I think of Peter Griffin describing Sarah Jessica Parker- "she looks like a foot".

Birdsgottafly · 12/08/2018 13:49

Did you read it?

She has been talking about the ageism that she has been facing since she turned 40.

She isn't the only aging Woman to be trying to be bringing these discussions into interviews.

It's a valid discussion about how older Women are viewed and talked about.

Doyoumind · 12/08/2018 13:50

I don't think she was ever sexy. Just googled and her face looks like it's been filled with God knows what. Not even attractive, never mind sexy.

Birdsgottafly · 12/08/2018 13:50

""Sexy - never in a million years.""

Well that is very much subjective. But always used to put any Woman who dares to admit she might be attractive, down.

Caselgarcia · 12/08/2018 13:50

Agree with PP's. I don't think she was ever 'sexy'. Fit and toned but too 'harsh' looking to be sexy

Doyoumind · 12/08/2018 13:51

I agree there is ageism but these women don't help anyone by having plastic surgery that frankly makes them look like freaks.

twattymctwatterson · 12/08/2018 13:53

Sexy is entirely subjective and really doesn't have anything to do with conventional attractiveness. I'm not a fan of fillers but think women in the entertainment industry are often damned if they do and damned if they don't. Men in the public eye really don't receive half the scrutiny and criticism of their appearance than women do

Birdsgottafly · 12/08/2018 13:56

She doesn't talk about being sexy, in an appearance, but still enjoying a good sex life.

Being sexually experimental, curious etc as Women age. Being able to have younger partners, without actively chasing younger men, as Men do, without criticism.

Older Women being seen as needing to validate themselves by their choice of sexual Partner, in the way that Men don't. Or not having sexual Partners and they should want to marry.

Older Women who are out on the pull, are often seen as desperate. Whilst the same isn't thought of older Men.

That sort of thing.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 12/08/2018 13:58

There is ageism, but I think the problem with Madonna is less to do with age and more to do with how hard she tries to be sexy in such a “look at me” kind of way, which completely defeats the purpose. What she has never understood is that the sexiest women are those who aren’t so desperate to be labelled as such.

Helen Mirren and Judi Dench have managed the ageing process with far more grace and dignity than Madonna has and, I would argue, far, far more attractively.

Birdsgottafly · 12/08/2018 13:59

""I agree there is ageism but these women don't help anyone by having plastic surgery that frankly makes them look like freaks.""

But then if you look your age, as previous generations did. You would be considered disgusting for wanting a sex life, as an older Woman.

Older Women can't help themselves, by following a set pattern, there is too much against us.

You have to do what you want.

twattymctwatterson · 12/08/2018 14:00

Why SHOULD people age "gracefully"?

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 12/08/2018 14:01

I don't think she has ever been 'sexy' tbh.

My brother used to nearly gag when he saw her in 'Desperately Seeking Susan' and she did just look kind of ...grubby..didn't she?

Anyway why should anyone seek to be 'sexy' when they are 60 ffs?

Birdsgottafly · 12/08/2018 14:01

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross, but that isn't Madonna's personality. Why should she change who she is? that's the point, Men don't have to.

Women are compared and pitted against each other, in the way Men aren't, you've just done it.

twattymctwatterson · 12/08/2018 14:02

The concept of aging gracefully especially in relation to women seems to be about accepting that you shouldn't wear certain clothes, or behave in a certain way because you're getting older. Fuck that.

MistressDeeCee · 12/08/2018 14:02

Madonna is attractive but she isn't sexy and never was. The Louis Vuitton 'striving to be sexy' spread legged photos were awful, as was her coffee book.

However Madonna is 100% right about ageism and sexism. & I think even tho she was a supremely talented artiste (likely still is, but I've not taken notice of her later works), I guess in a world where sexism rules and women are reduced to what they look like physically, this mattering more than talent,🙄 she did those photos to stay relevant.

She's at an age where female artistes are expected to no longer be seen and heard unless they've switched to demure sparkling long dress and singing ballads style.

Ageism isn't directed towards Mick Jagger and his ilk, they can keep rocking till they're 80, tight pants flowing hair and all.

I hope Madonna's still doing her thing at 70.

SleepFreeZone · 12/08/2018 14:03

I can’t say she’s sexy as she seems quite an angry woman who’s had some bad plastic surgery.

She harassed a former model who she’d paid to work in a video with her. Even though the model was pregnant and married at the time she still bombarded her with messages and phone calls. The woman recently came out to say she felt stalked by her. She was pretty much demanding sex based on her celebrity. That’s not sexy, that’s scary!

juneau · 12/08/2018 14:05

Is she sexy? Does it matter? I admire her for talking about all kinds of issues that have mattered a great deal over the years - homosexuality, AIDS, sexism, misogyny, and now ageism. She has, at times, done things or said things that were vulgar and yes, she tries too hard to look young and she's had too much plastic surgery, but she is right to talk about ageism. Why shouldn't she wear what she wants? Why should she shut up and be demure because she's 60? I admire her and other older women for refusing to be sidelined as they age.

Birdsgottafly · 12/08/2018 14:08

""Anyway why should anyone seek to be 'sexy' when they are 60 ffs?""

Why shouldn't you?

If you are single and 60, why shouldn't you want a good sex life and to be seen as sexy, by those you would want a relationship with?

Because a larger percentage of Men don't see us as fuckable, why shouldn't we see ourselves as fuckable?

iamawoman · 12/08/2018 14:08

I don't think you can be sexy with a ton of plastic surgery as it is a sign of massive insecurity or inability to accept the ageing process . Madonna has always tried to be 'sexy' , so as soon as we know this it is actually the opposite of sexy as it is a pretence

bengalcat · 12/08/2018 14:11

I believe one should grow old 'disgracefully ' and not conform to ageism or stereotype .

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 12/08/2018 14:11

" why shouldn't we see ourselves as fuckable? "

oh totally, but she is trying way too hard.

tbh I get more offers at the age of 53 than ever before, I have to beat them off with a shitty stick. the main difference is that I can recognise how unsuitable most of them are.
