Minehead in the rain what can we do that won't break the bank or be hours Driving..

Short visit and got drenched rock pooling today.

Would Dunster castle be suitable for a few hours inside? Sometimes nt are a bit boring inside and dc race through in minuets...

Butlins at Minehead you can get a day pass. Indoor pool is great.

Rockpooling in Minehead? No rock pools there. It anyway....loads you can do in the rain. Dunster Castle won’t kill that much inside time, but it is big and there are uncovered tours you can do which are 45 mins long and v interesting. Upstairs downstairs tours. Plenty of places outside to shelter if you get wet.

Catch the steam train and travel along the WSR. Takes a hour or so.

Rock pooling near Minehead. But Minehead is where we are based. Thanks for the suggestions. Looks like Dunster might be a good. Will check out butlins.

Would recommend Dunster and Butlins too. Train is helpful as others have suggested. Dunster usually have some child activities also.

Is there more to do than the pool inside. It's 25 per adult and 18 per child. The pool does look excellent but even then its a bit steep for just a pool

Just came back from Minehead. Not sure Butlins will be good in the rain as they were expecting thousands visitors this weekend so it will be heaving in the pool if raining.

There is a small funfair, dodgems, go karts etc but no fun in the rain. A few children's mini shows eg teletubbies daytime but high noise levels in that tent. There is a circus too. Not sure if day pass covers everything as some activities were extra.

What age/s are your children?

The steam train - you don't have to go all the way - I'd say maybe to Watchet, quite pleasant, walk around the harbour there, have lunch, see a train or two and return in 2 -3 hours.

Wouldn’t recommend Butlins.

Oh, there is a small Exmoor zoo which has good reviews, animal encounters etc not been as run out of time.

Dunster Castle has a play area for children. Tearooms and it’s a good day out. I think the WW2 assault course is running now. That’s fun.

Nice place to eat in selworthy. Google periwinkle tearooms.

Tropicana is a good place to take the dc and dunster castle is great to...avoid Butlins would be so buisy there.

Defiantly doing Dunster as we already nt members.. So it's fee for us. Will avoid butlins then.

They have a family trail running for children currently. It’s a big place outside and inside, so you will do a lot of walking and it will take a while. Loads of shelter places outside.

Tearooms there down by the watermill, follow the river. Or plenty of tearooms in the village.

If you go past the watermill and tea rooms you leave the property (no problem to show tickets again at the mill shop) continue in down the lane, bear left and there is a lovely playground all enclosed and safe. Also a little bridge and river underneath. You can paddle there. Packhorse bridge. Also packhorse playground. It’s a good playpark, all grass.

Is the drive OK to get there.
We headed out towards Lynton yesterday and I was left a crying crumbling wreck due to really steep roads with sheer drops etc, no passing places (that was the a39 toll road) car brakes smelling etc. It was awful.

I was brought up near Lynton and Lynmouth. Low gear and take it easy. Its fine.

Why not buy Lorna Doone or The Overland Launch or the Lynmouth flood disaster (depending on kids ages) and read and imagine. Maybe visit the places.

The Overland Launch is about a lifeboat which they had to drag up Countisbury Hill and down into Porlock to launch. One of my ancestors helped alongside the horses. Fascinating history especially when you now understand the terrain.

Dunster castle is beautiful, my kids really enjoyed it there. The gardens are lovely too, so hope it stop soon raining for you soon

We had a fabulous day at Dunster, so pleased we went and followed up by late lunch and cream tea at periwinkle cottage. Stunning village and place, classic thatched cottages, amazing views, so beautiful thank you.

Kezzie I must admit I'm ignorant on Lorna doone. Car smelling of burning and dh doesn't like beep going round corners.. I can't do any more steep hills 😁😁😬😬😱 porlock toll road was horrific.
