Bus stop baked goods

Just found an abandoned bakery bag with a cake in it. Undoubtedly abandoned recently, the cake is still moist. Probably purchased at a bakery nearby. No-one came back for it. A fellow bus queuer suggested it would be fine if I took it (she came along a bit after me so probably isn’t a nefarious poisoned cake-planter). It’s even my favourite kind of cake (apple chunks baked into the surface). Would you eat it?

Fried eggs for one just for you I am going to give you the world's easiest cake recipe, I make it with pears but you could do it with apples.
Put oven on to 190 grease and flour a tin I use a brownie tin.

In a large bowl put
I cup of ground almonds
2 cups of plain flour
I cup of caster sugar
2 eggs
One third of a cup of milk
Pinch of salt

Mix everything well, beat into a smooth batter.
Peel core and chop 2 or three pears
Add to the batter.
Pour into the tin.

sprinkle with sliced almonds if you have some.

Bake for 50 minutes.

The cup size doesn't seem to matter, it's the proportions that work.

Yeah it’s nasty, too many SF’s out there, I wouldn’t be convinced it was safe

MrsAJ27 · 04/04/2018 17:57

This thread has made my day lol!

I wouldn't have eaten the cake.

battenbergbutterfly · 04/04/2018 21:58

Were so that hungry that you took home and eat a discarded cake at a bus stop ? That's grim.

Ginmakesitallok · 04/04/2018 21:59

Op - you are officially a minger. Gross

selavy · 04/04/2018 22:01

That’s grim OP - why didn’t you just go to bakery and buy a cake if you wanted one? Confused

Betsy86 · 04/04/2018 22:04

CakeConfusedglad your alive though lol you have more trust in the world than i do lol

frasier · 04/04/2018 22:10

I once read a post from a woman who was trying to lose weight. She stood outside a bakery to catch a bus on her way home from work and the cakes were reduced to buy one get one free. She would buy 4 cream cakes to take home but then often have a steely determined change of heart on the bus and leave them on the seat!

Now I know what happened to those cakes!

FriedEggs1 · 04/04/2018 23:42

Ah thanks viques, I'm touched! I used to make a mean lemon drizzle cake but got a bit carried away with making one after the other in different flavours. I even did a peanut butter one, bloody orgasmic.

OP you're alive! Well done for surviving! Something tells me this might not be the first time you've helped yourself to abandoned street food, with you having an iron stomach an' all! Grin

PasstheStarmix · 05/04/2018 06:49

Dixie now two of you have eaten it ShockCake that’s twice the risk

BetterEatCheese · 05/04/2018 07:06

Yep, would have eaten - in bag, dry, not on floor, in its own tray as per pic - yum!

Raven88 · 05/04/2018 07:18

I wouldn't touch it. Too many stories of people intentionally infecting food and waiting for someone to eat it.

Why would you pick up discarded food and want to eat it?

DixieFlatline · 05/04/2018 17:42

It’s not discarded if it’s clearly just been forgotten by someone. Discarded implies they deemed it not worth eating.

Still alive and well. Grin

Or it’s been made to look like it’s been forgotten...Shock you’re still alive and kicking op so it must have been okay though in this instance.

Wildling · 05/04/2018 22:59

Glad you are still alive!

Are you going to be checking for stray baked goods on all public transport now?

Wildling · 05/04/2018 23:01

Every bus stop you walk past you'll have to have a quick peek!

Like this dog.

Littleredboat · 05/04/2018 23:03

Somehow you manage to be grim and amoral at the same time. That’s impressive.

Eating food you found at the bus stop is grim.

Taking someone else’s clearly forgotten belongings. Wow.

Zaphodsotherhead · 06/04/2018 10:16

I wouldn't have been bothered by the ants/possible dog lickage/any other hygiene issues. I'd have wondered if someone left it after injecting it with poison of some kind to try to get a dog to eat it. Which is why my dogs aren't allowed to pick food up off the streets.

Since it clearly wasn't - FREE CAKE! You are so lucky...
