Licking the lid

FaveNumberIs2 · 23/03/2018 22:38

Am I the only person who hates licking (or seeing others licking) yoghurt lids?

It seriously annoys the crap out of me.

(Not sure why, think it might have something to do with once slicing my tongue on an envelope!)

Angry that's the best part

DairyisClosed · 23/03/2018 22:40

All the nicest creaminess yoghurt gets stuck on the lid but yes, the actual liking us unpleasant. I just scraped it off worth my spoon.

DramaAlpaca · 23/03/2018 22:40

My DS would agree with you. He puts the lids in the bin without licking them. I think it's such a waste Grin

Pinkprincess1978 · 23/03/2018 22:42

It's wasteful to leave all that yogurt on the lid!

You are not alone though. Was out with other kid years ago with other mums and our babies/toddlers and one Mum told her little girl off for licking the lid. I only felt slightly guilty when I licked my sons lid for him moments later 😂

Mrstumbletap · 23/03/2018 22:47

I hate people licking yoghurt lids.

It reminds me of dogs licking their balls 🤢

UnimaginativeUsername · 23/03/2018 22:48

Licking the lid is the best bit.

AdoraBell · 23/03/2018 22:50

Blurgh to licking the lid, but YY to scraping the best stuff off with a spoon.

happymummy12345 · 23/03/2018 22:50

I hate it

wowzawoo · 23/03/2018 22:50

Oh god I hate it

ShatnersBassoon · 23/03/2018 22:53

Lid lickers also do that crazed scraping of every last bit of yogurt, going round and round the pot, scrape scrape scrape scrape...

What is it about yogurt that makes people so insistent on getting their money's worth?

ThereIsIron · 23/03/2018 23:04

Lick the lid of life Grin

DancingLedge · 23/03/2018 23:11

Because I'm middle class, I have a Labrador to lick yoghurt lids and pots for me.

First tiny sound of a foil lid being opened, she's wide awake from the deepest sleep.
Also discerns the spoon touching the bottom of the pot.

Not just gundogs, they're also yoghurt dogs.

FaveNumberIs2 · 23/03/2018 23:29

Oh I definitely scrape the lid!

@Mrstumbletap that's hilarious! 🤣🤣

OP posts:
DramaAlpaca · 23/03/2018 23:33

Haha! I also have a yogurt pot licking gundog. He sits & waits politely for the human to finish the yogurt, then neatly cleans out the pot. I haven't managed to train him to put the pot in the bin when he's finished though.

FaveNumberIs2 · 23/03/2018 23:34

@Pinkprincess1978 🤣🤣

I remember being in a burger place about 15 years ago when I watched this guy come in with his son and daughter, both under 10. The kids had happy meals and the daughter asked her dad to take out the onion from her burger. He took the burger, removed the top piece of bread, LICKED THE ONIONS OFF THE BURGER MEAT put the lid back on and handed it back to the kid!

I nearly puked.

@DramaAlpaca you'll have to teach your DS to scrape the lid with his spoon.

BennyTheBall · 23/03/2018 23:36

Vulgar! My family wouldn't dare. I would kill them.

stickygotstuck · 23/03/2018 23:39

There's no point in eating a yoghurt if you don't lick the lid.

Bumblesnout · 23/03/2018 23:39

I'm with you, OP. Can't bear licking the lid myself or seeing anyone else licking the lids either.

Shatner's, my mum is the worst for that. Every time she eats yoghurt in my presence I watch in disgusted fascination as she firstly licks the lid to within an inch of its life and then scrapes and scrapes the pot until every last bit of yoghurt is gone. She's also a noisy chewer/eater. Bah. I think she's majorly contributed to my dislike of lid licking.

I will sometimes scrape the lid of the yoghurt is a particularly nice one but generally it goes straight into the bin.

DramaAlpaca · 23/03/2018 23:40

Fave sadly as DS is 20 I fear he's beyond teaching good yogurt eating habits at this stage Grin

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 23/03/2018 23:44

I scrape it off with a spoon. It's never occurred to me before, but while I don't mind seeing little kids do it, the sight of an adult doing it is far less charming.

funmummy48 · 23/03/2018 23:54

I'm a lid licker.....and proud of it. It's funny but it's never occurred to me that anyone would be repulsed by it. However, I do come from a very long line of lid lickers! 😂

FaveNumberIs2 · 24/03/2018 00:25

@DramaAlpaca oh no, at 20 hell never change 😞🤣🤣
