Husband and i have opportunity to go to New York for 5 days/4 nights...

Never taken a holiday without our kids, best friend has offered to have kids, almost 5 and 14. They are very at home there and would be happy to stay with her & have fun with their pals (BF's kids).

A family member says it's too far away in case anything happens and suggested is selfish... Now can't device if doing the right thing!?

WWYD?

They would feel at home? They would be happy and safe? You trust your friend's judgement and ability to keep them safe? Hell yeah I would go!
They aren't tiny babies and you're only going to be gone a few days!

WanderingTrolley1 · 13/04/2017 21:40

I say go!!

You need child-free time to recharge the batteries!

We did 4 days/3 nights in New York without DD last year. It was amazing!!

I'd had a terrible year with a family bereavement and we just really needed the break. It did us the world of good. Although we've travelled lots with DD we agreed a toddler wouldn't really get much out of NY so we were glad we left her to be spoilt by the granparents! Flights back to the UK are pretty frequent if you do need to get back home.

Crumbs1 · 23/04/2017 20:25

We never did but our closest couple friends always did. They were right. Go and enjoy it. Good for all to learn to be apart occasionally.

We did. (For my best friends wedding) away for 5 days, 4 nights in NYC.
Kids were 1, 3, and 5.
(Stopped breastfeeding 1 year old in time to go, left the day after his 1st birthday)

Go for it.
