people will have an opinion - it's allowed

Just joining in and sharing my opinion! It felt like an unnecessarily negative thread with a lot of assumptions, I wanted to put another side.

Mintyy · 07/01/2015 21:21

Try not to show yourself up flashystars! That really isn't a very persuasive argument.

elQuintoConyo · 07/01/2015 21:23

I hate to not jump on the omfg wtaf eeeeuuuw bandwagon, but I don't give a shit.

They're both adults, they can do what they want I'd do Patrick Stewart in an Internet minute if I had the chance

ElphabaTheGreen · 07/01/2015 21:24

Oh do fuck off. It's non of your fucking business.

Yep. Still called 'Sleb Twaddle' not 'Grave Matters Affecting The World Today'.

Confused
lyspaere · 07/01/2015 21:28

I deliberately posted this on sleb twaddle, not on relationships.

It might be negative to predict that this marriage will end in tears, I'll admit that! but it'd be delusional to be positive about it

I think part of the problem is that his DF looks much youngr than 27, and SF looks older than his age, IMO.
So the photos of them together do look a bit Hmm

mrscumberbatch · 07/01/2015 21:35

Elquinto- spot on. Ill form an orderly queue

TheBatteriesHaveRunOut · 07/01/2015 21:37

I raised my eyebrows. They don't seem a conventional couple but for whatever reason they've decided to get married, good luck to them.

if it actually happens

I was a bit Hmm at TD and boyfriend initially and then it occurred to me that, professionally, neither has all that much to gain from the other, each could have whoever they wanted and it must be an inconvenience to be dating someone who is mostly based on the other side of the ocean - so probably it's love. Bless 'em.

So I hope it's love with Stephen Fry and fiance. Maybe they're thinking about having kids.

There endeth my views. Which I'm allowed to have and express.

PinkSquash · 07/01/2015 21:38

The photos do look very much like father and son, good luck to them nonetheless.

TheBatteriesHaveRunOut · 07/01/2015 21:40

after you mrscumberbatch and Elquinto

I mentioned the attractiveness of Patrick Stewart to a friend and she looked horrified. "What, the 70s racing driver?!" she spluttered. I will never let her live this down.

BumWad · 07/01/2015 21:42

Bit creepy yea.

MorrisZapp · 07/01/2015 21:44

Not one person on this thread wants either of them to be unhappy. I'm not as madly in love with SF as most, after hearing him make some weird and troublingly misogynist comments on his Tour of the USA show a few years back. But I agree that generally, he's a force for good in this world and his contribution to British comedy speaks for itself.

Of course I'd like him and indeed everybody to have happy, safe, fulfilling relationships. But like any normal person upon seeing those photos I'm like WTF?? Good luck to them of course, it's a free country, go for your life etc etc. But if they're still happily together in five years I'll eat my handbag. They look like an awkward fan photo, not like two equals in love.

lyspaere · 07/01/2015 21:47

That's true morriszapp, even though they are strangers we feel like we know stephen fry. We know what he's like even if we don't know him. I wouldn't want anybody to make a really bad choice and then feel lonely, humiliated, old, and that young guy Elliot, I hope that he doesn't end up feeling that he owes it to SF to stay with him, and that he can't win if he stays or if he ends it (a golddigger). It's a mess that won't make anybody happy. If only they'd just seen their fling through to the end without complicating it.

Rofl at the 70s racing driver.

Forget Mr Fry. Your friend has issues Batteries Grin

areyoubeingserviced · 07/01/2015 21:54

The one 'good 'thing about this whole episode is the fact that people are more shocked about the age gap , than the fact that two men are to be married.

CatsClaus · 07/01/2015 21:55

I refuse to believe the child photographed with SF is 27....I think he has lied about his age to get into comedy clubs and run with it.

it's all very reminiscent of Monica and Young Ethan in Friends strange.

and my first words to dh when I heard this were those from Mrs Merton "tell me Elliott Debbie what was it that attracted you to the millionaire SF Paul Daniels?"

SwedishEdith · 07/01/2015 21:56

areyoubeingserviced - yes, good point!

TheBatteriesHaveRunOut · 07/01/2015 21:58

good point aybs

a bit like when people were shocked at Elton John becoming a dad at 412 or however old he was, and not so shocked at two men having children

frankly, we're all running out of things to clutch our pearls at

elQuintoConyo · 08/01/2015 13:18

I clutched my pearls when my friend clutched her fake pearls at the SF news!

Honestly, I need a lie down in a dark room with Patrick Stewart

squoosh · 08/01/2015 14:53

I'd certainly bat an eyelid at a 27 year old and 57 year old marrying, no matter what the sexes of those involved.

JohnFarleysRuskin · 08/01/2015 16:06

There's a story in the times today that Stephen fry takes full responsibility for his partners speeding (100mph) coz he told him to 'get a move on' to avoid being late.

That's got to be some weird relationship dynamic going on.

threeberries · 08/01/2015 16:08

erm being happy? not that it's anyone's business but their's

pictish · 08/01/2015 16:15

He's taking full responsibility for his partner's speeding is he? The old fool is thinking with his old cock. It's an old story.

Surreyblah · 08/01/2015 16:19

My mum has dibs on Patrick Stewart!

No to Harrison ford unless could wind back time!

I don't like some of SF's public comments on women/rape allegations.

squoosh · 08/01/2015 16:21

I read that as 'my mum has been on Patrick Stewart'. Sorry Surrey.
