'Normal' things that you find really creepy

When I look out of my window at the flat opposite I can see straight through their living room to a window which lets light in from their garden. When it's sunset I find this image really unsettling and eery.

I also get really creeped out by those pin and string pictures that were popular in the 70's:

What odd things spook you?

Having to reach into (or even worse go into) a dark room to turn the light on. I'm a perfectly rational, non-woo person but every time I have to do it I can practically feel something grabbing for my arm The kitchen light switch is miles a few feet from the dining room door so I actually have to go in to turn it on. As I fumble for the switch (I swear light switches move in the dark) I'm always convinced that there's going to be something humanoid and nasty sitting on the floor waiting for me.

Oh bloody hell. I KNEW I should have walked away from this thread - I shortly have to leaves snug warm house with curtains drawn to go and collect 2 dc. So will have to the car check thing and then come back to an empty house in the dark Sad

Food that hasn't been cleaned off cutlery in the dishwasher and it touching me... Disgusting

Fcukfifa · 22/10/2014 19:25

Large packages of food. Like in makro when you get giant tubs of butter etc.

Soggy wet food.

When the living room is in a half light. It's not dark yet but the lamp isn't switched on. Makes me feel anxious and weird.

Also abandoned or partially abandoned buildings.

There's a housing development local-ish to me which is on the site of an old asylum and is a jumble of renovated buildings and new builds. There's the odd stand alone old building which is just empty and boarded up, in some cases standing just feet from occupied new builds. You couldn't pay me enough to live in one! There's also a partially renovated building with a social club in but the rest has just had nothing done and there's wallpaper peeling off the walls, holes in the ceiling, etc. I'm scared to go to the toilet in case I get lost and am never seen again Blush

Blueberrymuffint0p · 22/10/2014 19:30

Gravy that's dropped off someone's plate onto the table, when you've cleared everything away it's sitting there all cold and congealed and you have to deal with it shudder

At least it isn't as windy tonight.

Horses' eyes.

Mintyy · 22/10/2014 19:32

Walking alone in the countryside.

TSSpectreDNCOntheParanormal · 22/10/2014 19:33

People who say their children will marry each other, when said children are toddlers at the time.

ginnycreeper5 · 22/10/2014 19:33

Cows' haunches.
Why are they so knobbly/thin/angular looking, when the rest of them is so big and rounded?
It doesn't make sense

ByTheWishingWell · 22/10/2014 19:33

Frozen bread dough. I used to work in a bakery where the dough was stored in enormous open buckets in the walk-in freezer. It was creepy in there anyway, with just one flickering light, and I was never confident that the door wouldn't lock behind me. But the dough all expanded out of the top of the containers, reaching out in weird shapes. Every time I turned my back on it I was convinced it was stretching towards me. Yuck.

ginnycreeper5 · 22/10/2014 19:34

You look at a cow's ass next time you're in the countryside. You'll see what I mean Grin

loaderloader · 22/10/2014 19:34

My lounge has floor to ceiling glass windows and our garden backs on to farm land, ie its pitch black, no houses, no lights. Our curtain rail is broken and I can't close the curtains so I'm currently looking at the reflection of my room in huge windows....I hate it!

BettyFocker · 22/10/2014 19:35

Images or videos of space. I fastforwarded through most of Gravity because I found it really uncomfortable. I find space really creepy for some odd reason.

Same with deep oceans. I think it's the whole "unknown" aspect about it all that I find creepy with space and the ocean.

ginnycreeper5 · 22/10/2014 19:36

The thought of there being a Continental shelf with steep drops, Betty!

loaderloader · 22/10/2014 19:38

That frozen bread dough has spooked me!

And yes to thatched roofs. Absolutely hate then. I hate lots of weird textures.

Nobbly tree trunks/bark freaks me out.

TrisisFour · 22/10/2014 19:38

I thought it was just me!!! I am freaked out by anything that ordinarily just 'shouldn't be there'.

I used to walk my dog near some clay pits but the walk I took, I didn't have to walk past a working quarry. One day I was walking her past some very tall trees and as we walked past them I looked to the right to see a huge mountain of freshly dug clay, think 3 storey house sized!!!! It hadn't beeen there the day before. I never walked that way again. If we ever drive past I have to avert my eyes. It completely freaked me out.

Another example. My grandparents used to live near knowle park in Sevenoaks and they used to take us for long walks around there to see the deer. One particular field was completely full of mole-hills. There was no way I was walking through that field!!

And my last example for tonight. We now live in the south-west and take a dual carriageway weekly to a local activity centre. But there is a part of the dual carriageway that I can't look at. From nowhere as you drive around a steep bend there looms a huge black cliff. Bloody terrifies me every time. What makes it worse is that at the base of the cliff is what looks like a grave yard for broken down coaches and buses. Just totally freaks me out.

stubbornstains · 22/10/2014 19:39

The edge of the tube platform. DON'T GO NEAR THE EDGE!

(OK, that is at least partly rational...)

chasingtheegg · 22/10/2014 19:40

I can't enjoy ice lollies in the summer because I cannot stand the feeling of wooden stick on my tongue, same with the stupid wooden pics the chippy give you. My whole body physically shudders just thinking about it.

YY to looking into empty house.

Mrsjayy · 22/10/2014 19:40

Mushrooms growingIIn grass I get a flippy stomach when I see them manequins at historical places old jails and what they make me go clammy

YourMaWithCurseBackOfMyHearse · 22/10/2014 19:41

Catching someone's eye.
Reading over my shoulder.
Films or TV shows showing famous landmarks submerged under water. I saw one that had the Eiffel Tower underwater and a warship floating over it.
Getting stuff from the back of the cupboard. It's the spider thing.
Seeing people wandering around in dressing gowns and slippers if not ill or a genuine reason. It's unreasonable as I'm sat here in pjs and dressing gown and have been all day. I probably make others feel weird. :o
