The BCAS - 221B or not 221B?

a thread for those who have had their lives ruined by the charms of one Mr Benedict Cumberbatch. Come and share with those who really understand what it's like to live with this burden.

Some classics to get us in the mood.

Any luck ladies?

RiverTam · 04/08/2014 14:17

not yet, I've moved from being 8000+ in the queue to 4500, which is something, I guess. I've stay on it till I leave work and then try again this evening, I suppose.

DH was very upset on my behalf, bless him!

Phone the box office. You'll wait 5 minutes!

RiverTam · 04/08/2014 14:55

I've phoned the box office about 40 times - it rings an engaged tone twice then goes dead.

Maybe I'll try from my work phone Blush.

HRHsherlockssextoy · 04/08/2014 16:28

Great! When are you going?

RiverTam · 04/08/2014 16:30

3rd September. I wouldn't go for the date I'd originally gone for in case it jinxed it!

God, Tam, did you really spend all day in the online queue? Shock

You deserve those tickets for sheer perseverance.

I think I'll apply on 11 Aug with the rest of the hoi polloi. I feel strangely sanguine about the dead cert possibility of not getting them; much as I like him and good as I think he'll be, I've sat through many a production of Hamlet before and still don't really get it!

RiverTam · 04/08/2014 21:03

yep. Got into work at 8.45 and joined the pre-queue, then got into the queue when they went on sale at 10, in about 650th place, 50 mins later was in and doing my booking when something went wrong, so back in the queue again at about 11.15, in about 8200th place. Finally booked tickets at about 4pm!

I didn't actually have to do anything apart from glare at my screen and moan to my colleagues. They were very long-suffering, bless them, Fortunately, I didn't actually have any work to do today Grin.

I did feel determined, after forking out £40 for a membership which I probably won't make much use of (DH likes a lot of Barbican art/architecture exhibitions but the card is in my name grrrr).

It was epic, I tell you, epic.

Hope you're having a nice glass or two after your epic battle Wine Rivertam

HRHsherlockssextoy · 04/08/2014 22:42

Your story is one of fortitude tam

I couldn't believe there was 8000 in the queue at one point

Sudename · 04/08/2014 23:13

Think I'll buy a membership tomorrow as there'll be shag all left for Monday and that will be some mad day trying to book

RiverTam · 05/08/2014 09:24

I didn't have a drink, though I was sorely tempted!

OnlyLovers · 05/08/2014 09:26

Tam.

The Barbican is FAB. Give us your card and I'll use the membership if you won't. Grin

RiverTam · 05/08/2014 09:37

steady on, Only. What would you recommend? DH wants to go to the Digital Revolution exhibition, which does look good and good for DD. I used to go to the theatre there a lot when I was studying Classics, I remember seeing a particularly blood-spattered performance of The Bacchae in The Pit when I was about 17.

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 05/08/2014 09:47

I'm going (with DD2). :) it was quite stressful in the queue yesterday but obviously not as stressful for most since I entered it at number 200 which I thought was high till I checked on twitter and saw people in the mid thousands. It was more stressful than booking for the Tennant Richard II (which did a better job of catering for people with existing/longstanding memberships) than this process has done, but way way less stressful than booking for last years Dr Who Prom, the Dr Who 50th convention or Kate Bush. I understand from friends it was a walk in the park compared to getting a SDCC registration for the first time though.

From the apple store event earlier this year

OnlyLovers · 05/08/2014 11:29

Tam, yes, Digital Revolution looks good. Also City Visions and Jean-Paul Gaultier.

Someone told me that one of the cinemas is very beautiful and comfortable, although I haven't been personally.

RiverTam · 05/08/2014 12:18

me neither, they show intelligent films there, rather than the usual drivel stuff I watch Grin.

Maybe I could see The Imitation Game there, could be one they'd have on!

OP posts:
OnlyLovers · 05/08/2014 12:38

Well, they've got Guardians of the Galaxy on at the moment so it's not all highbrow stuff Grin

RiverTam · 05/08/2014 12:48

really? Well, that's more my kind of thing!

Sudename · 05/08/2014 14:04
