I just think it was done as a play on words: Cumberbatch, Cumberbitch, and if that wasn't his surname the word bitch wouldn't have come into what his fans call themselves.

There are a few people campaigning for Cumbercookies, on the basis that a lot of cookies = a batch. I'd rather be a bitch than a cookie anytime.

I totally agree with this BUT it's his actual name that's being adapted. I'd feel fairly uncomfortable if my name were changed to include an offensive name for a group of people. I can understand why it makes him uncomfortable and why he said what he did.....although it was v funny when he said "that's MY bitch!" on Graham Norton.
