Do we still have a chat thread for BLOGGERS?

MmeLindor · 02/09/2013 14:50

I have been really busy recently, and haven't had time to pop into the Bloggers' Forum. Is it just me or are there a lot of weird threads around?

Anyway, how are you all doing? We used to have some naice chats on here, so I thought I'd start a new thread.

I'm not sure we do! They do seem particularly random posts...

Nice to meet you. I'm a relatively new blogger and it would be great to be part of a proper blogger chat - I feel like I'm making it up as I go along!

Hi Babybouncer. The posts do seem to be a bit random, don't they?

I like your blog - the one about feeding children made me laugh.

We are all making it up as we go along, but we used to have a nice wee community on here. It seems to have gotten a bit lost.

Here is mine SaltandCaramel

I must admit I haven't been around here much - it seems to be a mix of random stuff and post-and-run links. I would love to talk bloggingstuff with anyone who's around, specifically the brave new world of WordAds Confused

My blog is London With a Toddler btw

MmeLindor · 02/09/2013 21:14

Hello Kate,

gosh, I am jealous of all the stuff there is to do in London with kids.

No idea about ads, I don't have them on my site, but maybe someone else will be along later.

It is an awesome place to live...we could go to a different park every day of the summer hols if we wanted to!

I just found WordAds at the bottom of the Tools menu on WordPress the other day. It seems that since I bought my domain I'm now eligible. Was wondering if they were any good....hopefully someone will know something soon :)

Sooo....who's going to Blogfest?

MmeLindor · 02/09/2013 22:21

I tried Google Ads on a previous blog and made about 8p so never bothered installing the WP version. I don't like that you hve no control over the ads on Google but not sure what WP version is like.

I am still thinking about the Blogfest. I would like to come, but it is a long way to travel (from Scotland) and I am not sure. I might combine with other business travel.

OP posts:
katese11 · 02/09/2013 22:28

It's a long way for me too - last year's was at the bottom of my road, this year I have to get on a bus!

(Wish I'd gone last year...bit nervy about this year)

Yeah, I'm not sure Ads will be worth it - but WP puts them on my blog willy-nilly anyway, so I might as well try and get the money for them!

MmeLindor · 02/09/2013 22:34

I really enjoyed it last year, and since I am not speaking this year, would enjoy it even more I think. Didn't really have time to chat to everyone.

It is in a different venue this year, isn't it? Last year was quite good - I stayed in a nearby EasyHotel. Was v orange!

katese11 · 02/09/2013 22:36

Yup, Kings Place...last year was Millbank, I think

Stitchthis · 03/09/2013 07:06

Hello Guys
I haven't been here for aaaaages Life gets in the way. Thanks for starting the thread Mme, as proactive as ever I see Grin

Tee2072 · 03/09/2013 07:40

Oh, right I have a blog. Grin

I've not been blogging much as I've been busy with my son, but now that he's started P1 I should have gobs of time!

I actually changed the focus of my blog a few months ago from being about my life to being about the world. Now I have to keep writing!

I won't be at blog fest. No money!

Stitchthis · 03/09/2013 08:38

Hello Tee! It's been a long time. I know what you mean about children taking away tapping time...my DC are definitely a reason for my MN silence, ironic really. How's life?

My blog rumbles on at www.stitch-this.net although its more general life, Parkinson's and torture than stitching these days. I've started an etsy shop and another website too www.stasherella.com selling my wares and antique quilts which is great but takes time too....

Stitchthis · 03/09/2013 08:38

www.stitch-this.net sorry

MmeLindor · 03/09/2013 10:03

Hello, Stitch. How lovely to see you again. I haven't been on your blog for a while, it looks really great.

I was just thinking about all our naice chats and how we've all kind of drifted away. Thought it would be good to get a bit of blogging mojo back. I am so busy at the moment, that I don't have time to blog much.

I've got my ticket for blogfest - I'm going with my SIL who went last year, so she's going to hold my hand. I think I'll have to stay over the night before - possibly the night after too.

Stitchthis · 03/09/2013 19:40

Can't make it this year as it us OHs birthday weekend and I don't have the excuse of a free ticket this year (hint) so will admire from afar this time. Am celebrating as sold a quilt today...yessssss Smile

Stitchthis · 03/09/2013 19:43

Actually it wld be good to hear what people think about customising Wordpress while we are chatting. I want a static page that clicks thru to my posts page...how?!

MmeLindor · 03/09/2013 22:18

That sounds like a nice weekend in the making, babybouncer

Stitch
Congrats on selling a quilt. I'm still waiting on my quilt from my bridesmaid - she bought the material 16 years ago and didn't get around to making it.

I'm sure that's possible but Tee is the best one to advise you on that. My blog theme has an option to make a static page the front page.

OP posts:
liveotherwise · 03/09/2013 22:22

I'm coming. I'll be in blog clinic advising on wordpress, and doing a panel too :) must sort out accommodation. Customising wordpress qs?

katese11 · 03/09/2013 23:26

sure there must be a way stitch...but guessing it's a paid upgrade? Or a change of theme?

I am wibbling about whether to pay $30 to get the custom design upgrade, just to change my fonts. It looks wayyy better on the preview with some chunkier headings, but $30 for fonts? Really?

Gusthetheatrecat · 04/09/2013 11:09

Helloooo! I love a good chat thread, although I don't seem to have the staying power to keep up with who is who. There are lots of blogs I recognise here, though: London with a toddler, common sense mum, salt and caramel waves.
Mine is www.cornerbycorner.co.uk. Feeling a bit down about blogging at the mo: millions of ideas but no time or cash. Suddenly very self -conscious about what a pit the house is, and how my whole life generally is not very stylish. Ridiculous, really.
But I am going to blog fest, so hoping this will fill me with renewed enthusiasm!

katese11 · 04/09/2013 15:56

Know that feeling Gus! Hope blogfest helps you get your mojo back

Stitchthis · 04/09/2013 16:13

I've got the $30 upgrade and love it but then I'm very superficial and get v excited about fonts and colours. I need to learn more about CSS code tho. Anybody know anything?

katese11 · 04/09/2013 17:01

Technical stuff? Pfft, no!

I want the custom design...but it takes me a while to earn $30 - not sure I can justify blowing it on fonts. Agh, WordPress have me just where they want me!

Tee2072 · 05/09/2013 12:03

Oops, bad link there Tee's Blog

CSS is easy. It's HTML with some other bits. PHP on the other hand...

You can choose a static page: Theme-customize-static front page
