6 yr old asking is Santa real?

Following on from one of the Christmas threads I wondered if any of you other mums had encountered this problem and how you tackled it.
Ds aged 8 & dd aged 6 were very much firm believers in santa Claus , the tooth fairy etc until recently a little 'charmer' in dd's class keep insisting both are not real. Up until this point both dc had unfaultering faith in the magic of fairies/Santa but this little darling has now planted the seeds of doubt! Does anyone know an effective way of keeping the magic alive for a little longer?!

Our bloody tooth fairy keeps getting pissed and forgetting. Can't get the staff these days.

The only time she sent my daughter a letter is when it came from the Tooth Fairy Special Poo Task Force (she swallowed her tooth so the Tooth Fairy had to get it from her poo) she was quite chuffed Grin

Pshaw. Keep the magic alive for a bit longer? The magic of Christmas isn't just about the jolly man in the red suit.

DD is 5yo and I've never told her FC is real. I've told her the story of FC, just as she knows the story of Baboushka and what Yule is and how St Nick fits into it all and different traditions and faiths, how Christians celebrate, how Pagans celebrate. Our Christmas is about traditions and love and festivities and while we do the stockings and gifts thing, it's just a small part of it. So the unbearable disappointment of finding out it's all a lie, doesn't ruin it. I NEVER believed, gave my parents a v sarcastic look apparently but I love, love, love Christmas. I love the carols and making decorations and spending time with family and baking and story telling and on and on and on.

You can tell what you like re FC and if he's real but don't pin the magic of Christmas on something so transient. Talk about everythine else Christmas offers too. Create magic in other ways.

I'm not convinced ds1 has ever believed, cynical little bugger that he is! He strings us along though, just in case.
