Well I never...

I think it's very sad that anyone feels they have to go to such lengths to hide their sexuality.

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 29/06/2012 21:17

TC and KH was definitely a contract relationship allegedly. When they first got together I heard from a very good source that apparently Lindsay Lohan was initially approached by TC's people before KH was, but she turned down the contract (which iirc was for a 5 year marriage with one child).

I reckon KH will be all smiles now she's free from him and predict a photo like that photo of NK when her divorce from TC came through will soon appear in the press.

Moln · 29/06/2012 21:18

Everyone is Hollywood is gay but pretends they aren't. 'Tis true.

The irony is that whilst a gay man doesn't get roles of a straight mane (has Rupert Evertt ever been cast in this role?) these men are actors and are paid to be something they aren't so it doesn't (shouldn't) matter what they are in real life

Stupid really!!!

stretch · 29/06/2012 21:20

It's quite 'funny' that she is the one divorcing him. It makes him appearless gay......well.....like he didn't orchestrate this from the start. I would imagine that her breaking off from him was part of the alleged contract.

Moln · 29/06/2012 21:26

I think a lot of, gay or not, actors are Scientologists because Scientology has artists as higher beings doesn't it?

sansucre · 29/06/2012 21:29

From what I've been told by my friends in LA, who were the ones to tell me about George Clooney liking men :( Will Smith is definitely straight although his marriage is not a monogamous one, something his wife is completely happy about.

With regards to Tom and John Travolta, I've often suspected they're both Scientologists because the 'religion' promises to 'cure' homosexuality, I think Tom was introduced to it via his first wife Mimi.

The Hollywood not wanting to cast openly gay actors in lead roles is as old as Hollywood itself, just look at Rock Hudson and Montgomery Clift who spent their entire careers. Despite the power figures of Hollywood being made up of people with vastly varied sexual orientations, they've always had a very odd stance to homosexuality be it their leading men being opening gay or even characters on screen - in From Here to Eternity, Frank Sinatra's character trades sexual favours with men for cash, it's a big part of the book but is never even alluded to on screen.

Anyway I'm digressing..

Not really shocking about TomCat, am surprised they've lasted this long tbh. I guess all the money in the world wasn't enough for Katie Holmes. I think her film career never took off in the way promised to her. I wonder who he'll fall for next Hmm

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 29/06/2012 21:33

Oh sansucre you have made me very happy. I luuurrrrrrve Will Smith with a fervour unknown to mere mortals. I have never got the gay vibe from him, I would be heartbroken!

yellowraincoat · 29/06/2012 21:35

Why, Hearts? It makes no sense since you will never be with him anyway and women saying that shit is probably why so many gay actors don't come out.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 29/06/2012 21:38

Aaaah yes, yellowraincoat, but I can dream.....

Interesting point you make actually. I have honestly never thought about it that way before. I wonder if I would still "appreciate" certain actors or sportsmen if I knew they were gay? And that is exactly the reason they would hide it. How sad. I feel quite guilty.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 29/06/2012 21:39

I've never fancied Tom Cruise so can't comment there!

MrsCampbellBlack · 29/06/2012 21:43

That is exactly is though Yellow and what I've been trying to say inarticulately after drinking prosecco.

MrsCampbellBlack · 29/06/2012 21:44

Sansucre - interesting about From Here to Eternity but then in Breakfast at Tiffanys the fact that Holly was a prostitute is very glossed over.

MerryMarigold · 29/06/2012 21:44

Why would anyone be unhappy being married to a gay guy? No pressure to have sex? A dh who (probably) packs his own suitcase and buys his own clothes? Why would you get divorced?

Jaffacakeeater · 29/06/2012 21:47

Ooh ooh ooh, I know this story. My friend got friendly with a woman on holiday in Puerto RICO. Turned out she was actually the editor ok OK USA. She said Tom offered the deal to five young actresses and KH accepted. According to her, he lives on the west coast USA with his partner. She also said that Jude Law and Orlando Bloom had been lovers!!!

Moln · 29/06/2012 21:50

In this case it's possible MerryMarigold that the gay man isn't very nice. There's something controlling about him (I say despite not knowing him)

MrsCampbellBlack · 29/06/2012 21:52

Oh that's just not true about Jude and Orlando surely?

HolyCameraConfusionBatman · 29/06/2012 21:53

I saw an interview with Jane Lynch (on Ellen) and she said that it was ok for her to be openly gay because she's a character actor, but if, for example, Julia Roberts was to come out as gay it would negatively affect her career because she needs to be perceived a certain way to play the kinds of roles she does, same with Tom Cruise et al I think.

yellowraincoat · 29/06/2012 21:53

Maybe because you want to have an actual marriage, Merry. With sex and stuff?

Or maybe because it was all planned all along.

Jaffacakeeater · 29/06/2012 21:55

@moln only that they are bisexual and enjoyed each other on occasion.

Jaffacakeeater · 29/06/2012 21:56

No sorry @mrscampbell

Cheriefroufrou · 29/06/2012 22:10

I thought will smith was straight, but in an open relationship... where he has to ask his wife's permission each time he sleeps with someone else and he can only stay with the OW for an hour or something.. but she doesn't sleep with other men

TwoIfBySea · 29/06/2012 22:12

I wonder if the truth about what went on during the MI:Ghost Protocol shoot will come out then. I'd heard Katie was happy to keep quiet as she was already stacking up a decent amount of evidence against Tom.

I don't know if the one he was infatuated with is gay too, certainly a lot of rumours and I suppose it would matter in somewhere like America where politicians make being gay sound criminal.

There was a brilliant interview with Jessica Alba, just before he hitched up with Katie. She told of an audition where she was given the outline of the relationship she was to have with a "big star", made it very clear who it was. She said no.

Will Smith isn't gay (I don't think so at least) but I believe his wife is.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 29/06/2012 22:18

Kevin Spacey was definitely out recently when he was in London - didn;t realise there was any question about it. Anazing that it is still an issue - why om earth does anyone care?

Mintyy · 29/06/2012 22:31

Yellowraincoat
I think merrymarigold was joking, or being ironic.

Mintyy · 29/06/2012 22:32

Male homosexual actors care because they very rarely get cast in heterosexual roles - thus severely restricting their careers and their earning power.

In rl no-one cares.
